Wolves say Stiemsma is a good fit

Chuck - Red's Army July 3, 2012 Celtics News, Greg Stiemsma 18 Comments

Remember that Greg Stiemsma is a restricted free-agent. The Celtics will have the opportunity to match any offer.

Despite a talented roster that includes Kevin Love, Derrick Williams and Ricky Rubio, the Wolves are a bit thin at center.

FYI – Jerry Zgoda is the Wolves beat reporter for the Star Tribune.

I’d look to retain Stiemer if I could but won’t go over $3m per year for 3 years. If the Wolves offer more, I’d let him walk and look to bring back Kristic and/or Semih Erden.

  • Lupo

Not sure if this is correct , but I read somewhere if someone offers Steamer more than our qualifying offer, then anymore that we would match would take away from our MLE.

of course danny should let steamer’s ankles slide with an ada boy thank you. but under the radar there’s an interesting move to watch for in the thunder amnestying perkins and resigning james “fake nerd” harden to a long-term contract.

perk back in green needs to happen. chris kamen/wilcox/camby on the cheap as plan b?

either way danny will assemble a core of talents to fit doc’s system. and personally i feel in order to make a serious title run kg or melo should not play a minute at center.

    • Lupo

Where have you read that Perkins might get amnestied? Is this a rumor or just you being hopeful?

      • Chuck – Red’s Army

There’s been a lot of speculation about OKC using amnesty on Perk because they need $$ to pay Harden and Ibaka. Nothing concrete though

the reality of resigning harden and releasing perk http://bit.ly/MJayyF

if you have cap room you can give him whatever you want. The problem is they are at 58.3 million with terry and still need to sign green and allen, so that doesn’t leave much room. I don;t think your going to take steamer over allen.

    • frickenWaaaltaaah

They will sign Terry with the mid level exception so they will be waiting to sign him until other moves have been made and they are over the cap.

  • paul

I don’t think we are at 58 million yet

  • paul

Maybe it’s 58 million if one includes green, leaving Allen andBass to sign

58.7 but that is if you include green at 9 which I think you should be able to get for 7.

It’s morons like Kahn that screw everything up. Didn’t he just overpay Darko a couple years ago to be his center?

I love Stiemer, but without the right coaching and situation he’ll be a bust.

    • frickenWaaaltaaah

He does have the hometown hero thing going with the Wisconsin market next door… although I’m not sure how many millions in revenue Greg will generate for the Wolves just because of that.

But yeah, based on the Omar Asik and Landry Fields deals…I’m thinking Greg gets 3 years, 48 million. Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy!

Lol seriously though the NBA spent all that time and money locking out the players…maybe they should have a lock out for some of the owners.

  • RedsLoveChild

    Wolves?

So much for that rumor of Stiemsma signing with the Cavs….becoming a Cleveland Steamer.

    • Jester00

      Lmao

    • I bleed green in L.A.

Oh my god, PLEASE send him to Cleveland. Best nickname ever!

  • Lupo

worst case scenario , we have the bird rights on Krstic ,

    • frickenWaaaltaaah

It’s like finding a $5 bill in your couch. Oh hey wow free money I lost earlier!

Still, even if he doesn’t fit the roster here it could open the door to a sign and trade.
