Stern on Rondo: “he obviously bumped him”

Rondo marc davisAfter the Rajon Rondo incident last night, everyone wondered what Stern would say about it.  Well, he has spoken… at least.. he spoke about it on ESPN Radio:

“I don’t want to pre-judge on what the recommendation is going to be,” Stern said. “But as a fan, he obviously bumped him. And you know what happens with respect to that.”
There have been three instances this season where a player or coach has been suspended for a game for bumping a referee.

“We have a hard and fast rule,” Stern said. “Unless somebody trips you and sends you into him, nobody touches a referee. That’s the proposition.”

Here's the thing… Stu Jackson is the guy that hands out the punishment.  Now, I'm not going to be naive and say Stern isn't talking to Jackson about things, but maybe Jackson sees things differently.  I'm not sure ESPN Radio is where Stern should be discussing this before judgement has been passed.

Of course, that assumes judgement has not been passed.  And it's pretty clear to me that it already has in Stern's mind.  I'd be shocked if Rondo avoids sitting out a game because of this.

I’m glad he took to the airwaves to skewer my boy Rondo. It shows a ton of fairness to the NBA judicial process. If he did that with Artest…oh wait, Artest has no rules. You can beat the fuck out of players and throw your fists up and only get a handful of games off. Stern was unprofessional going on the Herd and saying that.

if you tripped and the guy in front of you stopped, you’d have to bump the guy with your chest so you dont awkwardly go in contact with him like pulling down his pants while faling.
try it in a crowded place. trip some one behind of some one. Its a pretty natural reaction. Rondo just followed to argue the call then the ref stopped. playoffs are very very emotional games, the have to understand that somehow.

    Well said!

Except he peacocked his chest out and threw a little extra into that bump. Stop defending it.

Celtics are losing this in 5. No way they go home 0-2 and win four of the next five games. What a shame. Just when this season had a glimpse of promise, he had to go and squash all our hope. Homeboy is gone in the offseason.

Pierce was equally hotheaded as a 26 year old. If you want to go through years of terrible 90′s celtics again, by all means call in to Felger and bitch about our only good young player and work on getting him shipped out.

If it’s a one game suspension, we are fine, as long as the team pulls together around Rondo, as Garnett is clearly calling on them to do. We know we can win a game without Rondo. But if it’s more than one game, I think we are in trouble.

gimme a break. Celtics could just as easily win tomorrow. If it weren’t for some horrid shooting from Pierce and Garnett, we would have won last night.
but that’s the way the fairweather blows, I guess.

I guess the bump and 1 game suspension is better than waiting to get off the court and punching glass….
