Jermaine and doc

Jermaine O'Neal was officially waived today.  That ends a less than stellar stint in Boston for Jermaine.  Here's his stay, by the numbers.

Salary earned:  $11,991,200

Regular season:

  • Games played: 49
  • Points scored:  254 (5.2 per game)
  • Rebounds: 223 (4.5 per game)
  • Blocks:  73 (1.5 per game)

  • Games played: 9
  • Points: 52 (5.8 per game)
  • Rebounds: 38 (4.2 per game)
  • Blocks: 16 (1.8 per game)

Jermaine O'Neal played 1,198 combined regular season and playoff mintues for the Boston Celtics, meaning he earned $10,009.35 per minute played. By contrast, Kevin Garnett, who made $40 million over past 2 seasons… has earned $7,750.54 per minute over that same amount of time.

  • JO…Shaq…Sheed…Marbury…Telfair…Sean Williams, etc.
Danny loves “reclamation projects”….it`s a shame they NEVER work out.

You cant really compare JO and KG and their cost/minute though…
Not the same player and different stages of carrier…
For all the grief people give him JO had a few good games and its not his fault his body hates him.
I hope he doest try to resurrect himself in Miami…

I didn’t think Marbury was that bad. He wasn’t that dynamic player that we all hoped he would be, but he’s been the only decent backup pg we’ve had in the New Big Three Era. And he helped us win a playoff game.
I’ve got no problems with Sheed.

JO could very well crack the starting lineup of all-time worst Celtics.

  • Jim.

Forget about his stats,it was his attitude that I didn’t like .
He either didn’t understand the Boston Celtics’mentality or he couldn’t buy into it, for whatever reason, either way he was never a Celtic,
    he didn’t belong here.

    JO wasn’t that bad…
He just has a really broken body.

  • The facts that I saw were he did try to take a few more charges and seemed to try and play some D. And the dude had a lot of time in the training room nursing injuries most of his tenure.
What I don’t know is if the buyout crap was true, or if his injuries are milked or not… if they are, he’s a loser. But ‘journalism’ isn’t exactly reputable either. Them main indicator for me, unless I missed it I didn’t see many players&coaches rushing to defend him or speak about his ethic.
So I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt. I saw a broken body and a dude that wanted to be a tandem with KG and if he stayed healthy, who knows.
    Final verdict: “eh”

I guess that’s a more positive way to look at it. I still can’t help but feel like he could have played more if we wanted to. Especially given what Bill Simmons wrote about him a few weeks ago.
