SURPRISE! Celtics about to sign Sean Williams

Sean williamsNo one saw this one coming.

Former Boston College Eagle, most recently of the Dallas Mavericks, is close to signing with the Boston Celtics and will be available for the Atlanta Hawks game tomorrow night.

The Celtics are officially waiving Jermaine O'Neal to make room for Williams.

Williams cleared waivers on March 26. The 6-10, 235-pounder averaged 3.6 points, 1.6 rebounds and 8.1 minutes in eight games with the Mavericks but averaged 15.2 points, 8.9 rebounds and 2.5 blocks in 27 games for the Texas Legends, Dallas' D-League affiliate.

This makes Williams eligible for the playoffs.  I'm not sure what you can expect out of him.  But he's 6'10", and he can block some shots.

I'm hoping this means KG is getting some rest to close out the season.

As long as Jermaine O’Neal is waived, I’m happy.
Not sure if Williams will bring in anything for the Celtics but I hope he’s a better player than Hollins. Hate to say it, but I really… really… do not like Hollins’ game. Truly pathetic rebounding skills, thin frame, and there isn’t much of anything else to talk about.

i think Williams looks better than Hollins. Defensively he knows how to block shots and offensively he can throw it down. he also is decent on the Boards! nice job Ainge

He’s another big man and that’s all that matters. I think the C’s coaching staff aren’t yet comfortable with Hollins, Johnson, and Stiemsma is always in foul trouble.

  • Sean Williams & Gerald Green…nothing good ever happens when either one gets signed!

  • Thankfully Williams won’t be here too long. It’s definitely a smart move by Ainge to grab another big, but Williams as most know had some serious attitude/behavior problems in the recent past. But hell, if we can deal w/Sheed & Marbury I guess he should be a walk in the park. Another plus: he’s 25. I’ll take all the 25 we can

  • I remember his rookie year in Jersey the kid had a pretty good season, blocked alot of shots. Now JO can do that 1 day deal in Indy and call it a career. Not DA’s finest move, actually one of his worst. JO is a nice guy though and it was too bad his best years were long behind him.

  • True indeed. And yeah-that stuff w/Williams happened a few years back so I don't want to judge the dude on that alone. Everyone does dumb sh*t when they're young..hopefully he just plays ball and fills-in where needed.

Its funny, that picture you used of him is when he puked on the bench.

He is young, he is tall, he can rebound and he is a Boston College product. What’s not to like? Hey I think we should all get our bets in quickly before Vegas changes the odds on the championship…ok, well maybe that was a little overboard, but there is nothing wrong with having another big on the team, even if he only fills in when Steimer gets in foul trouble.

  • What`s not to like?
    He`s a drug addict.
He`s been waived three times in the past two years. This will end with the Celtics waiving him, too.
