Rondo dished out a total of 219 assists in the month of March, shattering Bob Cousy's 56-year-old record after recording 210 assists in January 1956, according to ESPN Stats and Info. Rondo certainly benefited from having 17 games during the month in this condensed season, but he still averaged 12.9 assists per game for the month. Only twice during March did Rondo fail to reach double digits in assists (8 over 26 minutes in a lopsided loss to Philadelphia on March 7 and 5 over 26 minutes in a win over Portland).

This is a big team effort.  KG and Pierce have been rolling… which leads to a lot more assists for Rondo.  But KG and Pierce are also rolling, in part, BECAUSE of the passes they're getting from Rondo.

Individual success is often the product of team success.  The Celtics, as a team, have been pretty good in March.  Rondo's been looking to set guys up, and they've been finishing for him.

At first I suspected the compressed schedule played a part in Rondo breaking the record, but then I researched it and found that Cousy had 22 games in his month compared to 17 games for Rondo. Even more impressive! Then I started thinking, 22 games in 31 days is a hell of a grind in its own right. Bottom line, both point guards had great months.
