Enemy Chatter: Boston’s not that good anymore

I often wonder what opposing teams, their beat reporters and bloggers are saying about the Celtics after playing the Celtics. Here's a dose of 'enemy chatter' from Philadelphia.

The Celtics have slipped a lot this season. They're still dangerous from night to night, and when you throw in Paul Pierce and Rajon Rondo, they have an elite top four players in their lineup and are dangerous on any night.

An NBA title, however, is well outside Boston's grasp. The next domino to fall was going to be the division, and it might as well be the Sixers who take advantage in this truncated season.

It looked for a while like they might run away with the Atlantic, but the schedule got predictably tough and Boston made a predictable run. Which may still finish with the Celtics overtaking the 76ers before the season ends. But don't count on it. This just in from South Philly: Boston's not that good anymore, and the Sixers can stop looking over their shoulders in fear.

Philly.com – Atlantic Division still Sixers to lose

Nothing earth-shattering here. The Celtics are not championship caliber, but may still be able to overtake Philly in the Atlantic.

I hate writing Enemy Chatter after disasterous losses. No. Fun.

Even after this loss, I still think that a healthy Celtics squad can beat the Sixers in a seven game series. Any team not named the Bulls or the Heat is fair game for us. It’s okay if they don’t fear us any more, it’ll just make it sweeter if we beat them in the playoffs.

  • The Celtics looked like that dude playing rec ball in the “Don’t Smoke” commercials.

LOL. totally. I remember that ad.

I don’t take it as an insult of Philly.com stating the obvious about the Celtics not being that good anymore. It’s not like the writer said, the Celtics aren’t good completely. It’s true and I would assume most level-headed Celtics fans would agree with that assessment.
The Celtics are older and not what they used to be from 2008-2011. It’s a changing of the guard theme happening around the league. Veteran teams like the Lakers, Celtics, Mavs, Spurs and Suns are on the decline for rebuilding. but they’re still threat come playoff time, that I believe as well as the writer.
The Celtics are older and less athletic. The Sixers are younger and more athletic. So clearly the Sixers are heading in a different direction. The Celtics will likely be in lengthy rebuilding process next season.
Understand that the Sixers are not used to winning and beating their Atlantic rival has more meaning to them than the Celtics. The Celtics on the other, accomplished at a lot more within 5 years, than the younger elite teams in the east. But if I were the Sixers I wouldn’t get happy yet, because their schedule has one of the easiest and get’s tough these next few weeks for the Sixers.
The Sixers need to win a playoff series to impress anyone outside of Philly.

Heat, Bulls, Pacers, Magic, Hawks, Celtics, Knicks can all beat Philly in a 7 game series with or without home-court.

this was a “scheduled loss”. i don’t care how old or young a team is, no one can play 3 games in 4 nights (with the last game being away and against a superior athletic team) and expect to win all three. What’s the difference if they lost by 3 or if they lost by 30? In two weeks, no one will remember this game other than it being another L in the loss column. 76ers are a good, solid, young team with a ton of athleticism. I take nothing away from the 76ers, however, any team that is coached by Doug Collins, NEVER worries me.

The Celtics could lose the next few games and still possibly take over the Atlantic Division. If u look the eastern standings, the 4-6 seeds are up for grabs, because Philly, Celtics, Knicks have a daunting upcoming schedule. Don’t get too happy Philly fans and media.

And if the Celtics can take of business these next few games, they can overtake their division and move up the conference standings.

  • I’m not saying the C’s are still elite, but in the last short season the Knicks made the finals from the 8th seed. And on any given night Boston can still bring it, like what they did to Orlando in back to back games http://www.lucidsportsfan.com/2012_01_22_archive.html#5320633031059095590
