Rondo responds to the rumors

RedsArmyAdmin March 2, 2012 Uncategorized 32 Comments

Rajon Rondo addressed the most recent deluge of rumors at shootaround today.

"I'm doing all right. Like they say it's part of the business. I'm happy just playing basketball. I'm happy with the guys they surrounded with me, the coaching staff. Danny and I have talked quite a bit this year so his (best player on the team) is not new news to me. I don't get discouraged when I hear my name in trade talks. Obviously that was big of Doc to come out with that statement but I know the relationship we have. It's gotten better each year."

So there.

Danny talked.  Doc talked.  Rondo talked.

There's always double talk and carefully crafted words in these situations, but I'm pretty sure we haven't been blatantly lied to yet.  The differences are small, but I think the stuff we've heard in the past few hours is pretty definitive.

That doesn't mean the situation is perfect.  It doesn't mean Rondo, or Doc or Danny are perfect at what they do or how they handle things.  But no one is.

So you can love or hate Rondo, Doc, Danny, me, that guy across the street with the lazy eye…. anyone.  It doesn't really matter.  What matters, I think, is that this seems to be done as far as the Celtics are concerned.  Rondo is staying in Boston… at least until the end of the season.

If you absolutely feel the need to rip Rondo, write it down, save it, and you can bust it out on July 1 when the free agency period starts and we can start addressing whatever new batch of ridiculous rumors come down the pike.

I’m still going to talk about Rondo, and any other player I feel like discussing, the only way I know how:
    From MY perspective.
    So there. LOL.

  • Jerry Sondler

I need more cowbell…I mean, more Rondo Drama!

  • http://profile.typepad.com/bwilsoneagle Bwilsoneagle

So you really believe that statement by Rondo closes the door conclusively on any trade?
    LOL.
Got any interest in a bridge near the new Nets arena?

  • chachee

    Wilbon said it best….
It’s doubtful that Ainge is aggressively shopping Rondo around the league. However, if you’re a team that feels adding someone like Rondo would help you, of course you’re going to call Ainge and see what it would take to add Rondo.
Said it all along, the C’s won’t move anyone unless its an expiring for an expiring. It makes no sense for them to trade Ray or KG, just to add a role player who’s under contract. They need the salary cap/luxury tax relief if they want to rebuild. They’ll have $$ to spend this summer, they just have to spend it wisely.
If the Beasley for JO rumor is true, they would be stupid not to pull the trigger. JO is a good teammate (which is underrated), however, they need a more reliable big. JO is one more dunk away from shattering his wrist. Beasley isn’t the first choice but he is an upgrade.

If they do indeed plan on going after guys like big Dwight next summer, Rondo will be part of what makes Boston attractive. Today’s star’s realize they need other great players to win championships or even go deep in the playoffs. Having said that, Rondo’s name will prob. surface everytime some jackass reporter needs to fill afew minutes of air-time or the like.
chachee is right on, JO for that stoner Beasley is a no-brainer, C’s get a guy who can at least score with the 2nd unit, and JO gets a little closer to retirement and that 1-day contract in Indy.

    It’s important to scapegoat.

  • paul

Who you gonna scapegoat when you don’t have Rondo to kick around anymore? Have you got ‘em picked out yet? Or are you going to wait to see whom everyone else starts picking on?

  • Tyler

Rondo needs to go. The drama is getting sickening & it is obvious Rondo is just too high maintenance and does not take coaching well. Mood swings are horrible with him. Mo Williams might be a good option with Bradley.

  • paul

So well said. Danny is so well known for not only refusing to shop his players, because this is a guy who really believes in loyalty, but also for being a real straight arrow when it comes to saying what is on his mind and talking about what he is up to.
I WANT ON THE PAYROLL DANNY!

  • paul

Well said. It’s all the reporters’ fault. Danny is not the kind of person who would leak stuff out to reporters, send competing messages, lie, prevaricate, betray…

  • paul

It’s important to be just like the Spurs. In fact, I’m going to become a Spurs fan. If it’s the Spurs one wants to root for, why accept a substitute?

  • MeanGreen

I agree. The “headcase” is not worth the headache. Rondo = The Gift & The Curse. More like the curse.

  • Danno

Paul, you seem to be taking all this Rondo news really painfully.
Go have a drink, or a smoke, or rub one out or something. You’ll feel better.

  • paul

I find the Ainge worshipping in this article to be laughable, except that it’s such a betrayal of journalistic responsibility.
The responsible thing is to recognize that Danny has established a track record now of dishonesty and disloyalty. Another responsible thing is to recognize how carefully he has minced his words, how cunningly, EVEN NOW. Another responsible thing would be to recognize that Doc too has established a reputation of backing up Danny, even when he knows that Danny is wrong. He’s a ‘team player’, and the team he plays for is NOT the one on the floor. It’s the folks in the office. At least not primarily.
The most responsible thing here would be to recognize context. The mass of reports indicating that Ainge has been almost desperately shopping Rondo is thick, and Ainge’s rebuttals to this have been blazingly unconvincing to anyone who hasn’t already made up their mind to believe Ainge. The context is that the noise about Danny shopping Rondo has hit his trade value hard. With that in mind, Ainge’s and Doc’s comments look like damage control. It’s what they would feel they had to say, WHETHER THEY WERE WORKING ON A TRADE OR NOT.
You have to be willfully gullible to believe that crap. I’ll have to see a lot more to take it seriously. A few cheap words in the middle of what appears to be a trading frenzy are not impressive. And if you remember, Danny was assuring us very similarly in the run up to The Trade last year, was he not?
This team should commit to building around Rondo. I see little indication that they have made that decision.

  • paul

Well said. We don’t need anyone with unusual talents, or a different ways of looking at things. We need a team of drones. Robots.

  • Danno

Wow. This guy is just plain cuckoo.
Dude, take a deep breath. relax. It’s just Hoops.
It’s not the end of the world.

  • paul

I don’t like bullying and scapegoating, Danno. And no, my comments about Danny are not scapegoating. They are the opposite. See, what I’m doing is talking about the person who really is in control of the situation. You, and so many others, on the other hand, are choosing to villify the one person who probably has the least control over what is going on. Danny, Doc, and the Big Three all have much more control.
You know, you can keep sneering at me, which is fine, or you can try to learn something about being a better fan and a better human being. It’s never too late to learn and grow.

  • paul

Nice call out there. I may be cuckoo. Who knows? But I think you are a bully. I think that sports is part of the Land of Life. It’s a place where we play out ethical dramas in a hundred different forms. It’s a kind of theater. And right now the main title playing is LET’S ALL REALLY SCAPEGOAT THE HELL OUT OF THAT WEIRD LOOKING KID.
Right? You know I’m right, my friend.
I also love what Rondo brings to basketball. Remember how different Larry was when he first came to the league? Yes, this kid could shoot like no one else we had ever seen, but what was more important was the way he THOUGHT about the game. He could see what was going on way ahead of everyone else. Rondo has that, but he has something even more. Rondo can see possibilities that others can’t see. If you can’t see that this kid has something special to him, something that sets his potential way above the rest, then I wonder what you do see?

  • James Eisenman

I will not give up the hope that Ainge will still get rid of Rondo. Maybe it’s just a hope that we will excise this cancerous growth from our team. No one has scapegoated Rondo. He is a horribly flawed player with a bad attitude. His lack of defense kills us nearly every night. He’s pathetic and all the Celtic talk probably only means no one is willing to trade anyone of substance for Mr. No D, Mr. No FT, Mr. “Me.”

  • MeanGreen

At least Jeremy Lin is not afraid to make a game winning three pointer. I would trade Rondo for Lin today. Lin is fearless. Rondo has temper tantrums.

  • Danno

    o.O

  • James Eisenman

And just to answer Paul before his usual comments. No one is being a bully by complaining about a guy who won’t guard his man. No one is scapegoating a guy whose lousy free throw percentage just gets worse. We’re pointing out what we can see without the Rondo rose-colored glasses you obviously wear. Are you Rondo?

  • paul

Here’s another thing you haters seem to have not one tiny clue about: playing with the Big Three has had many advantages for Rondo, but it has also been a very complicated situation that has become much more complicated as the Big Three have declined and as Rondo has begun spreading his wings. If you see that aspect of it, then I think you begin to see that Rondo has in some ways handled an extremely complex situation very well.

  • Jerry Sondler

    Bullying…scapegoating…conspiracies, etc.
I`m concerned…Paul is getting a little too damn close to the truth!!!

  • Danno

I’m starting to think that Paul either:
    a. is Rondo
    2. is 12.
I’ve never seen this kind of devotion in a Droid before.
Lighten up, fella. We’re all allowed to have our own opinions. It’s called being an American. No one is telling you you can’t love Rondo like Bobby Brown loves a Tender Roni. But we’re entitled to criticize the guy as we see fit. and no one is bullying you. Just having a laugh at your seemingly blind devotion to someone you’ve never met.

  • chachee

I really think he learned a lesson, last year when he traded Perkins. One more trade like that and he’s most likely good as gone. Trading Rondo might be the straw that broke the camel’s back, and he knows this. Unfortunately, it’s unlikely that he’d get fair value in return because of Rondo’s history and the current state that the C’s are in, allows teams to have the upper hand/leverage in any deal. This is a point guard’s league and even though there are plenty of them out there, the difference between a DJ Augustin and a Rajon Rondo is pretty significant. That said, in order to win in this league, you need to have at least one quality big. Quality big’s are a rarity and if Ainge could work something out where we get a young, promising center or power forward, he has to get the deal done. If not, we’ll be waiting for guys like Jujuan Johnson (he’s raw but you gotta give him time) to blossom into an all-star talent. That’s seems like wishful thinking to me, especially if you consistently have a mid-late first round draft pick every year.

  • Chris57

Rondo for Lin…Is this serious? I hope you are kidding man.

  • http://profile.typepad.com/andreas24x7 Andreas24x7

    some great stuff there! A++++++

  • http://profile.typepad.com/sothewind Lee in Oregon

Paul, we get it, you love Rondo. You don’t need to respond to every comment like you’re the guys little brother. He’s prob not going anywhere anyways. And for God’s sake stop using the word ‘haters’, it’s just basketball and fan’s opinions, nobody hates anyone and if they do they oughta try getting a life.

  • CG

    Do you guys have jobs?

  • http://profile.typepad.com/rtcoaster Shawncvd

That’s some quality basketball analysis right there!
    Mo Williams = WTF.
Love or hate Rondo. That’s fine. Don’t lose all credibility suggesting to ship out a top 7 point guard (who in time may vault to top 3) and bring in a MOR combo guard (who in time will still be washed up).
Rondo for Williams. If this is his perceived value DA HAS to keep Rajon.

  • Roland

    Trade rondo for kevin nash.
