Report: Celts close to deal with David West

Chuck - Red's Army December 9, 2011 Uncategorized 11 Comments

David Aldridge had the story:

A source briefed on discussions Friday evening said that the Boston Celtics are close to a deal with free agent power forward David West, who has been with the New Orleans Hornets since being drafted in 2003.

West, 31, was expected to be one of the top free agents in this year’s class, but he is coming off of a torn ACL suffered late last season in a game against Utah. West has diligently rehabbed his injury in North Carolina last summer, but teams have been slow to make significant offers to him.

A two-time All-Star, West has averaged 16.4 points and 7.3 rebounds in his eight NBA seasons. If healthy, West would be a boon whether starting or coming off the bench for the Celtics, who acquired Brandon Bass earlier Friday from Orlando for forward Glen “Big Baby” Davis.

Sources say this is sign and trade with Jermaine O’Neal and “another player”. If we can manage to hold on to Jeff Green in this deal we made out really well.. Could be a nice piece to convice Dwight to come here too, Front court of Dwight, David West, and Pierce, WIth Rondo running the show would look fantastic

Love David West! Kinda makes Bass somewhat redundant though. If Jermaine is gone though, who’s gonna play center? Wilcox has played a bit of center but he’s a natural 4.

i just read that too…3 years at 30 mil for West, seems like the “other player” would have to be Avery Bradley.

    This from hoopsworld.com Alex Kennedy-
There’s a new addition to the sign-and-trade between the Orlando Magic and Boston Celtics. Not only will the Magic swap Brandon Bass for Glen Davis, they’ll also receive Von Wafer in the deal. Wafer was an unrestricted free agent, but Orlando had him added to the deal in exchange for the $1.84 million traded-player exception they acquired last season from the Washington Wizards-
so the C’s get a trade exception for 2-mil for Von Wafer too, DA is killing it!

espn says besides dwest, doc’s hinting at another big or another scorer is pending.. the article didn’t speculate names.. but a girl could only dream: nick young, agent 0, michael redd, jr smith???? this makes me tingle
something else to think about is danny preparaing to use the amnesty on garnett?

From the Herald “Green yes, West no
Ainge, known for his blockbuster moves, nearly pulled off another one last night when he reportedly came close to signing pricey free agent David West. It was unclear whether he attempted to use restricted free agent Jeff Green in a sign-and-trade to make the deal for West possible.
“They’re out of that race, but they did try,” said a league source.”
