Training camp: Don’t expect fun and games this year

The Celtics open training camp today in Waltham. Woo-hoo! There are very few specifics about the schedule, workouts and when the players will arrive.

There was a lot of optimism surrounding the team last year. The roster was firm. We had Shaq and Nate Robinson playing practical jokes daily. There's a completely different feel this season.

ESPN Boston's Chris Forsberg brings us up-to-date on the roster:

Contract: Rajon Rondo, Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, Jermaine O'Neal, Avery Bradley

Expected additions: Keyon Dooling, Marquis Daniels

The Rookies: JaJuan Johnson, E'Twaun Moore

Training camp invites: Gilbert Brown, Michael Sweetney, Jamal Sampson, Greg Stiemsma

Jeff Green and Glen Davis are hanging in the balance. If Green accepts the team's $5.9 million qualifying offer, he can show up and play out another year. He can also work the Celtics for a long-term deal, while listening to offers from other teams.

As an unrestricted fre agent, Glen Davis is sitting and waiting for offers. It might be a few days before his situation is resolved. Delonte West is another player the Celtics are considering.

CSNNE is going live with Celtics coverate at noon.

The Dooling trade makes me nervous that we’re going to let Charlie Redz walk. Don’t know much about Dooling’s game, but D-West is a beast. We would be wise to keep him in Celtics green.

actually its all signs point to danny gone bipolar
    - trading perk and asking for a refund
    - not resigning dwest for vet minimum
    - desperately trying to trade rondo
    - signing sheed to terrible contract
    - giving shaq a mobile home
.. btw is jeff green expecting a max offer elsewhere?

man, last year’s training camp was a blast. So many fun players, everyone getting along, big hopes from everyone. This year, it’s going to be pretty somber. With Rondo pissed off about nearly being traded and half the roster still needing to be filled, there’s going to be a lot of guys just going through the motions.

Washburn finally nudged up to saying something like this today, but STILL wouldn’t actually say it. We are in an unnecessary mess, and it’s mostly Danny’s fault, and it seems to be down to some kind of extended manic episode.

This situation could be turned around with a really honest and good team meeting.
