Report: Celtics sign Gilbert Brown

According to CSNNE's Carolyn Manno and A. Sherrod Blakely, the Celtics have signed free-agent SF Gilbert Brown of Pitt. Manno tweeted the news about 30 minutes ago, and followed with another message stating that Brown would arrive in Boston tonight or tomorrow and would be in camp on Friday.

So who is Gilbert Brown? Brown played 5 seasons at Pittsburgh (redshirted) at small forward, and was known for his explosive athleticism. At one point last season, he was called the "most athletic perimeter player in the country." At 6-6 & 215 lbs he's not a monster, but has a ridiculous vertical leap that enables him to finish strong. He averaged 8 points and 3 rebounds over a 129 game NCAA career and shot 75% from the charity stripe. Oh, and most importantly, he does have a Twitter.

Video highlights, after the jump.

  • I like any guy who takes it to the rim strong.

  • Never heard of him, but I dont watch alot of college hoops outside of some pac-12 games. Not exactly the headline I was hoping for, but a roster is usually 14 or 15 guys….so it’s a start.

    No freakin’ way!
    Gilbert Brown?
    It’s over.
    Banner 18 comin’ this June . . .

    Wrong sport.
I was thinking of Mordecai “Three Finger” Brown.
A great player in his own right.
    But he played baseball.
And he’s been dead for almost a century.

  • The guy does have a wicked pump fake first step to the hoop and since he shot 41% from threes last season you gotta respect the shot.

  • gotta get the ball rolling somewhere.. hopefully he knows about defense too
