Jeff Green says he can really (expletive) play

The Herald's Steve Bulpett spoke with Jeff Green about the lockout, his restricted free agent status, his interest in Boston and his game:

“Yeah, man, you know a lot of people don’t know what I can really do,” he said. “In Oklahoma, I was kind of overshadowed by Kevin (Durant) and the way Russell (Westbrook) picked up, but, excuse my language, I can really (expletive) play. I can really play this game, man.”

That belief was supported by discussions he had following the season.

“I had some good meetings with (coach) Doc (Rivers) before the lockout, and I’ve been talking to P (Paul Pierce and Ray (Allen),” Green said. “Next year they’re really going to allow me to play, and I think that’s what I need. I need to go out there and just play. Sometimes I think too much, but I just need to go out there and play the game. I’ve got great confidence in myself, but things were a little difficult last year.”

I don't blame Jeff Green for talking up his game. Confidence is a mandatory trait among professional athletes. And he's probably tired of the criticism he (rightfully) received for his performance in a Celtics uniform last season.

I'm going to straddle the fence on this one and say the Celtics should re-sign Jeff Green, at a fair price.

someone give jeff green a glass of STF milk. sloppy footwork and greasy hands don’t lift banners, he’s a 2nd unit bench player w/limited ability to improve. perk was a warrior, team brother and a brick wall that his new contract is fine in by books. either way the the grim reality is hoops aint happening

Jeff Greene makes it sound like he’s been “held back” his whole mediocre career……by all means son, blow up!! But also understand this, you’re contract will be based on what you’ve done on the court, not the crap you talk in the Herald.

Yes, Jeff Green can effin play. But Son, you don’t have to ask permission to shine.

    Seconded!
We got duped by OKC to think that Green was a clone of James Harden (who we really wanted in that trade and who actually can ball). Instead we got a 6’10” softie that can’t play the 4 spot because he’s afraid of the paint and can’t play the 3 because he doesn’t have the handle.
It’s a man’s league, and Perk was a beast among men.
But we need to cut our losses and not further the mistake by giving Green a new deal. I’m not interested in what Green says he is or says he isn’t. Dude is already proven — he went flat when it mattered in the playoffs.
Personally, I’m in favor of dropping that cash on somebody like Josh Smith. Dude can dominate the paint, and will be able to fill in those huge shoes that KG will leave behind when he takes off the jersey. (Mad respect for KG of course). Smith has already expressed interest in playing here. Atlanta wants to move him. He’s friends with Rondo already. And we’re kidding ourselves if we’re gonna sit here and wait for that center in Orlando to leave the franchise that’s built around him.
