Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.
The NBPA isn't happy with Spurs' owner Peter Holt. Source says he's slowing talks and told the players, "You haven't felt enough pain yet."
"Paul Allen, Peter Holt, Wyc Grousbeck, Robert Sarver and Dan Gilbert are all hardliners. They are stopping the progress," said NBPA source.
The same source said that several owners from larger markets, specifically James Dolan and Mark Cuban, seem ready to make a deal.
No future meetings have been scheduled. Based on the conversations I've had tonight, it doesn't sound like they'll be meeting anytime soon.
The owners are a bunch of greedy, ruthless business owners and they don't give a damn about public perception. They want what they want… and not even an experienced federal mediator can sway them.
Mediator George Cohen didn't run to the bar this time, he ran all the way back to Washington, D.C., leaving a terse statement behind like a vapor trail. Barely 24 hours after speaking of how committed the parties were to solving their problems, Cohen said, "No useful purpose would be served by requesting the parties to continue the mediation process at this time."
The owners are refusing to continue negotiations until the players union accept a 50-50 split in BRI. As I've said many times during the lockout, asking the players to take a 7% cut in BRI (57-50%) is unreasonable.
Don't the owners realize they are the ones who screwed up the system?
What a sh-t show.
