Stern blows up the first two weeks

David Stern blew up the first two weeks of the regular season, costing the Celtics home games against Cleveland, Charlotte and the Clippers.  So no Blake Griffin in Boston this season.  Sorry Celtics fans.  You lose on what would have been a must-see player.

I had to cut and paste this part of the schedule from ESPN because the Celtics.com site had already blown out the first two weeks.

That means they had a "first two weeks cancelled" page ready to go.  Which makes me wonder if there was ever really a chance that this season would go the full 82.

I'm just going to leave this post here and re-visit it in the morning dump.  We're going to need a few hours to process exactly what's going on.  I do know this:  The NBA is blowing it.  It's killing itself out of spite.  The more games that get cancelled, the less peopl will care about the NBA.

Sorry, that's a fact.  I'll still watch.  And I'm sure a lot of you will too, but the casual fan is being lost.

Egos are getting in the way of a deal.  It's disgusting.

I’m just ready for them to start paying me back for games they don’t play. SHOW ME THE MONEY!!!

Stern and the owners are fully responsible for this crap. My hatred for Stern has now reached an all-time high. And I now have no respect for owners who aren’t competent enough to run their businesses and expect their employees, the players, to bail them out.

they’re not going to offer any kind of refunds unless the entire season is cancelled. if they play a partial season, they will roll that money over to playoffs or future seasons. and they won’t start processing that until MARCH.

Not sure where you are getting your information, but you are incorrect. I will get a check monthly once they miss games. So far, 2 preseason games and 3 regular season games have been cancelled.
To be exact: “You will receive a refund of your season ticket purchase price for each game cancelled, plus interest equal to 1% of the paid balance of the account…You will be paid on a monthly basis for amounts due from games cancelled during the previous month, with interest accruing on a “simple interest” basis, monthly.”

    Amen.

From My sales Rep. Spoke to him today. Because I pay monthly (instead of in one lump sum) I won’t see any refunds until February, unless they decide to cancel the entire season before December. The same goes for you if you pay monthly.
Basically if you pay monthly, you should still have a balance on your account, right? They wisely computed the monthly payment percentages this year so that come October, if games started getting cancelled, they wouldn’t have to actually pay anyone anything back, until the remaining balances are exhausted first. I still owe $273. That $273 was due to be paid in evenly distributed amounts over October, November, December, and January. So going forward I won’t have a monthly bill, but I won’t actually see a REFUND of anything until February at the earliest.
    It’s a scam.

Which plan did you pick? 8%, 4% or 1%? I picked 1% and if any games
get cancelled beyond what already has been, I'll get a check monthly
once the games total the amount I owe, so according to my account
exec., I'd get my first check Dec. 1st for all the Oct. & Nov. games
    if they are cancelled.
I have 4 seats and still owe just over $700, so the 5 games already
scrapped gets me to about $650 so they'll start owing me once 1 more
game is cancelled – make sense?
Also, you have the option to pay off that last $200+ (whatever you
still owe) if you chose the 1% and get checks too!

From the horses mouth – just arrived in my inbox:
“By selecting the Base Plan, you will receive a refund of your season ticket purchase price for each game canceled, plus interest equal to 1% of the paid balance of the account as of October 1, 2011, with adjustments to account balance for games previously refunded. You will be paid on a monthly basis for amounts due from games canceled during the previous month, with interest accruing on a “simple interest” basis, monthly. You will not receive refunds of the ticket price for canceled games until the funds in your account exceed the value of remaining scheduled games. Refunds for October games missed will occur via check or the means of payment you have used on the account, on or before November 10, 2011. Refunds for November games missed will occur on or before December 10, 2011.”
So as soon as the funds in my account exceed the value of remaining scheduled games, I’ll get $$$ back.
