"I want to finish my career as a Celtic,” said Garnett, who joined Boston in a trade with Minnesota before the 2007-08 season. “This is it. I don’t plan on bouncing from team-to-team, that’s not really the plan. Hopefully God willing, I can finish my career out in the classy, elegant with a class-full organization as Boston. I don’t want to downgrade. I want to continue to be where I’m at. This is the first option and hopefully the only option.”
When asked if he would play past next season, Garnett said with a giggle: “My body and I gotta actually have a one-on-one to see future-wise, where I’m at and what I want to do. So I will make that decision.”
So basically, this might be KG's last season.
KG is 15th in NBA HISTORY in minutes played with 43,915. And that's just the regular season. Add the playoff numbers and KG's up to 47,998.
He played 2,548 combined regular and playoff minutes last season. If the Celtics do make a run to the Finals, that number next season could top 3,000, which means KG has an outside chance at reaching the top 10 all time in combined minutes played.
He's 35 years old, and his body has begun to betray him. He just can't do the things he used to. And as much I'd love for him to stick around beyond this season in a reduced role, maybe off the bench, I don't think he'd be able to mentally handle that. He's just too intense.
Whenever basketball comes back, we should be sure to enjoy this run. It's possible this will be KG's farewell tour.
