Nate Robinson might just go play football

Nate robinson football Nate Robinson is just like any other NBA player right now.  With the lockout about to enter its third week, he's looking for a back up plan.  But for him, his plan might be to jump to another league trying to climb out of a labor mess.

“I might go play football,” Robinson told SLAM on the phone. “Do something that nobody’s tried to do.”

[…] “If I can, I would love to play football a little bit,” says Robinson less than half-jokingly. “I’ve been doing a little bit of training.”

[…] “Why wouldn’t you want to have an NBA player that can play football try out? That’s a lot of publicity for your organization.”

Nate could actually pull it off, too.  First of all, he's played D-1 football at Washinton… so you know he's at least good enough to play at a high level.  Second, he's a freakish athlete and strong as hell.  Third, his height isn't as much of a detriment in the NFL as it is in the NBA.

Take, for example, Wes Welker.  He's 5'9".  So is Steve Smith of the Carolina Panthers.  Bob Sanders, considered one of the best defenders in the league, is 5'8".  Oh, then there's some guy named Barry Sanders, who is 5'8" and seemed to do just fine.

Bottom line is, being Nate's size in the NFL isn't an issue.  And considering Nate's now pretty much relegated to 7th or 8th man status at best, it might be time to give the NFL a call.  Plus, his hometown of Seattle still has a team in that league (ouch, I know… low blow), so he could still live out the dream of playing in front of his family and friends.

I say go for it Nate.  What the hell?  You might find out you chose the wrong sport after all these years.

I love Nate, but the only reason he got on the field at UW was because of Ty Williingham’s desperation in the final days of his coaching tenure. Probably the darkest hour in UW’s history. And I don’t think Pete Carrol is interested in midgets but you never know.
The crazier story out of UW these days is that Shawn Kemp Jr. has signed on to play hoops huskies. We just don’t know which of the 19 Shawn Kemp Jrs it is.
