GreenLight Madness: Celtics Top 64 Plays: Round 2 (#13 Seed vs #20 Seed)

Jay July 9, 2011 Uncategorized Comments Off

Today's GreenLight matchup falls under the 2-for-1 category since yesterday's poll was closed all day due to "programmer's error," also known as "digital brain fart."  Either way, it's a Saturday win for you the reader.  Yesterday we saw a clip of Ray Allen posterizing Chris Bosh.  Today's it's Paul Pierce's return to the act of posterization, and once again we see Channing Frye as the victim.  Yesterday we also saw some nice defense by Pierce leading to an easy two for Rajon Rondo.  Today it's Rondo with the one-on-one defense on Carmelo Anthony leading to Pierce drilling a three.  Nice symmetry indeed.

Seed #13: Rondo D's Up Melo and Pierce Drills a Three – About mid-way through the third quarter of a close playoff game with the Knicks, Carmelo got the ball at the top of the three-point line ready to go to work. His eyes lit up when he saw the much smaller Rondo checking him straight up. Rondo accepts the challenge head on, much like when he did against LeBron. He forces Melo to a long jumper, doesn't foul him, and in transition on the next play finds a trailing Paul Pierce who drills a three. Rondo takes on anyone and it's a great thing to watch.

Seed #20: Pierce Posterizes Channing Frye – If you can recall in late January the debacle that was the trip to Phoenix, the Celtics had one of their worst performances of the season. Doc Rivers was ejected, Kevin Garnett junk-slapped Channing Frye and the green played like they were zombies. Just over a month later in early March, the C's extracted revenge by destroying the Suns and in the process and Pierce's slam over Frye put the exclamation point on it. Rajon Rondo tosses a pass to Pierce who is out ahead on the break and only has Frye to beat. Pierce posterizes him with the left hand for the and 1, and stands over him for a second. KG is pumped up with that "YEEEAHHHH" face, and pushes him away, but Pierce still gets rung up for a T. Tommy Heinsohn doesn't approve and his rant is hilarious… Note the reactions on the bench from Avery Bradley and Von Wafer.
