Ray Allen is coming back

Chuck - Red's Army June 7, 2011 Uncategorized 2 Comments

Raygolf According to the Celtics twitter feed:

Guard Ray Allen has exercised his option for the 2011-12 season. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The option is reportedly worth $10 million which qualifies as a bargain.

While Ray is getting older (he'll be 36 in July), the dude is still producing.

He averaged 36 minutes in 80 games. He shot a career best 49% and 44% from 3, and averaged 16.5 ppg, 3.4 rpg and 2.7 apg.

Yes, the Celtics need to get younger and more athletic, but let's hope Danny Ainge can pull that off without moving Ray.

His age will obviously be the complaint of folks not happy w/this, but I love it. Another year of great shooting and great Jordans? Hell yes. However I agree 100% with Chuck that we need to get some young thoroughbreds in the aging stable that is the Celtics locker room. Did I just say that?

What are the chances of us passing on baby and nads in order for us to go after a young athletic center like Tyson Chandler? The guy plays great defense (shot blocking and rebounding) and could definitely play the pick and roll game with rondo for some alley-oops! Chances are slim that we get Howard next year but we could attract someone like Chandler for one last run with the big three!
