Report: Dwight Howard working on extension with ORL

An Orlando TV station is reporting that Dwight Howard is close to signing a two-year extension with the Orlando Magic.

Crap.

Apparently the two sides spent the holiday weekend hammering out the details.

Crap.

Howard continues to say that he wants to build a winner in Orlando:

"I'm not trying to run behind nobody like Shaq or be behind somebody else," Howard said, referencing Shaquille O'Neal's decision to leave the Magic following the 1995-96 season and sign with the Los Angeles Lakers.

"I want to start my own path and I want people to follow my path and not just follow somebody else's path. I want to have my own path, and I want to start that here in Orlando. But I can't do it alone. Not only do I need the right teammates, but I need the city behind me. That's the only way it's going to get done. We can change this small city that we have — this small market that we have — and we can make it a big market."

Crap.

I know Howard signing in Boston was a long shot, but I was secretly holding out hope he'd want to play with Rondo.

The timing of this extension is strange. Could it have anything to do with the Lakers hiring of Mike Brown? A disaster of a move that possibly dissuaded Howard from having interest in LA?

Again, I have no idea about the logistics. If he signs a two year deal and they don’t play next season, that means he has 1 year left with the team right?
In my opinion, this is more about preparing for the lockout so they essentially have 1 full year to negotiate with him. Why would HE sign a 2 year contract? Certainty during the lockout I guess? So he has an employer to be locked out from?

There was no chance he was coming to cold Boston over warm, tax free Orlando or Hollywood. Why people thought otherwise is beyond me.

He might also see the value of being a hero in his “home” town. No doubt the derision against Lebron James was something a lot of young marquee players worry about. Building a monster in Orlando that can win a few rings is a lot more impressive than leaving for a team where rings are essentially a sure thing. If he can pick up a few and Lebron can only pick up a few with DWade, Howard’s reputation as a best of the best type will be a realistic one, whereas the Lebron is as good as Jordan or even as good as Kobe talk will subside quite a bit.

It’s time to trade rondo for some value at any position we want sign delonte west as starting point guar and play avery bradley as backup. We could groom avery bradley as back up point guard with the veterans on the team and still have a questionably better offensive and defensive starting point guard in delonte west. Plus I feel like rondo could catch a king’s ransom in return. Monta Ellis maybe along with the warriors first round pick??? then the celtics would be set up for the star studded 2012 draft with 3 or 4 picks in the first round i forget how many they already have. The fact is rondo just isn’t getting it done and anyone who watched the celitcs consistently and saw how every game he would walk up the ball, he’d make stupid needless passes when he could just score (especially on fast break layups that pisses me off more than anything) , he makes pointless one handed passes that if they get through look good but if not its just rondo being rondo where if he just used two hands it be a much better pass, he’s useless player on offense it’s basically 4 on 5 the whole time bc team’s dont even guard him, he’s even more useless bc he’s on a very gifted offense team with 3 hall of famers which means in order for them to cover those three effectively he should be able to get to the basket at will an score like 50 points a game. His best asset is pushing it in fast break and when he doesn’t do that he’s useless. His defense is horrendous to anyone who watches the games. He gets burned by every single player he’s guarding night in and night out a fact that is sometimes hidden because of the celtics great team defense and they’re ability to help. NOW IS THE TIME TO TRADE RONDO WHILE HE”S YOUNG AND COULD GET A WHOLE LOT FOR A A DEEP OLD VETERAN TEAM. we sign jeff green sign delonte trade rondo in a deal that could make us a whole lot better given what we get in return play avery bradley at backup point DO NOT SIGN BIG BABY and we’ll be a much better team next year.
