Dirk breaks Pierce’s FT record

Dirk shooting Back in 2003, Paul Pierce dropped 40 points on the Indiana Pacers while only shooting 8-24 from the field.  To get his 40, he needed to set an NBA record by going 21 of 21 from the line.

The record lasted 8 years… until last night when Dirk Nowitzki hit all 24 of his free throws in an absolutely amazing shooting performance to beat the OKC Thunder in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals.  Unlike Pierce, Dirk was hot from the field too… hitting 12 of his 15 shot attempts.  That's a True Shooting Percentage of 93.9.

Dirk overshadowed Kevin Durant, who had 40 points on 10-18 shots and 18-19 FT's.  The difference in the game, really, was Russell Westbrook shooting 3-15.  Dallas won by 9 (121-112).  If Westbrook had just hit a few more shots… who knows if the closer score would have changed how the end of the game played out.

Regardless… nice win for Dallas, and an epic game for Dirk… which included taking a record away from P-double.
