Ainge: Shaq not capable of playing 12 minutes

Danny Ainge shed some light on Shaq's status during his weekly interview on WEEI. So when will he return to the court?

"I wish I had an answer to that one," Ainge said. "He looks better today. There's progress. We're still hopeful that he'll be ready to play but it's just taking longer to heal, or taking a while to heal. Shaq was determined to play Game 1 of the first playoff series and it's just not been that way. He could probably go out and something but I'm not sure he could help much."

Asked if Shaq could play 12 minutes at this point, Ainge said, "Right now he could not give us 12 minutes. We want Shaq healthy. If Shaq could give us 12 minutes in the first game without jeopardizing the following game he would probably be out there doing that but he's not ready to do that yet."

Translation: Shaq is no where close ready to play.

  • He’s going to play against Miami. I have no doubt about it.

  • I`m sure he will play. That would be cool if he pulled a Willis Reed in game 3 at the garden in the 4th quarter. That place would go nuts. I know it`s just a pipe dream.

  • Shaq would be fantastic, but I’m feeling pretty good about how JO has been playing since he came back. He’s gotta be playing through some rust, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see an arc of continued improvement in his game with each game played. I really dig the game-face JO has, too, dude looks like he means business. Damn, really loved that foul he layed on LBJ in that last game we played them….He might be in LBJ’s head already.
But, yeah, Shaq would be so friggin excellent to have now too.

  • I don’t trust a word that comes from Ainge’s mouth.
