Recap: Another lazy effort, another loss in a back-to-back

The Celtics just aren't playing pretty basketball right now.  Blame fatigue. Blame injuries. Blame boredom.  Blame whatever you want… it doesn't matter.  It's just not an entertaining brand of basketball.

Tonight their sloppy, lazy play cost them a very winnable game against the Nets.  Chalk up another loss in a back-to-back game… 88-79.

I might as well get this ball rolling now.  What the hell is wrong with Rajon Rondo?  1-10 shooting, 2 points, 9 assists.  He left the game briefly in the second half with a twisted ankle, but he's been sluggish for a while.  He's got to be banged up… which means Delonte is coming back at just the right time.  Sit this kid down and fix whatever his problem is.  Doc says he's fine.  I don't believe him.

The C's D was just God-awful in the third and most of the fourth.  They gave up 31 points in the third and spent a lot of time just staring at New Jersey's shooters… almost as if the hard glared would be enough to throw off their shots.

It didn't work.

They shot 11 of 25 from 3… while the C's countered with a 2-10 showing.  Quick math… that's a 33-6 advantage from deep.

Might as well bring this up too:  New Jersey shot 24 free throws to Boston's 8.

But even WITH that huge disparity, the C's had the game down to two points with 4:28 left.  But the only basket the C's scored after that was a Glen Davis jumper with 3:09 left.  Meanwhile, New Jersey ripped off a 7-0 run to close things out, including a Deron Williams dagger 3 with :35 left.

A great example of how inept the C's looked was their out of bounds play with 1:35 left.  Ray inbounded to Glen Davis… sorta set a pick and then bounced around… KG sorta set a pick and kinda posted up.  Paul Pierce was just strolling around the sideline.  And the end result was a Rondo jumper… the absolute worst option on the floor.

A team that is typically crisp out of timeouts and an example of how to execute freshly drawn plays just half-assed whatever play that was and settled for the worst option available.  I couldn't even tell you if Doc drew up a good play because no one really did anything that resembles executing anything that might have been drawn up.

Jeff Green had some slick moves but finished 3-11 for 7 points and 3 rebounds and was a -7 on the night.  Nenad Krstic was going Nads again early but disappeared and finished with 6 and 2.  The Celtics gave up almost as many points in their last 3 quarters (64) as they did in their last 5 quarters (70).  The loss puts the C's in a virtual tie with Chicago for first in the East.

On the plus side: Glen Davis put up 16 points and 14 rebounds.  Carlos Arroyo looked ok in 17 minutes.

rondos inabilites have nothing to do with injuries its his effort mindset and coaching taht are holding him back. he just looks like its not into 100 percent when hes in there escpially at at boring points in the game he doesnt give a 100 percent of the effort 100 percent of the time. Teams are really attacking him offensivly and defensivly. They allow him to take shots and play off him whenever possible i saw two plays tonihgt that directly lead to steals bc of rondo’s man playing off him. On the defensive end hes playing atrocious as well he reaches way too much and gets beat to the ball time and time again. Even in transition during the fast break hell always outrun his fast break advantage and then drive to the hoop only to get nothing out of it. It seemed time and time again tonight we’d get the ball to rondo in transition it looked liek wed get a fast break layup out of it but it ended up being nothing not even a good look

I dont think you can chalk this one up to “disinterested”. The rest of the league is getting it’s shit together and the C’s just got outplayed by the effing Nets.

I tried to edit my last comment but it didnt work heres the full comment

Escpially at at boring points in the game( ie not the 4th quarter) he doesn’t give a 100 percent of the effort 100 percent of the time. Teams are really attacking him offensively and defensively. It seemed time and time again tonight we’d get the ball to rondo in transition it looked like wed get a fast break layup out or decent shot of it but it ended up being nothing not even a good look. I mean I hate to say it but someone needs too look at rondo’s game stop praising and start telling him every single little thing he is doing wrong and how it can be fixed. I feel like the coaching staff doesn’t coach rondo as hard as they should bc of his well known attitude to the game. If i was doc rivers id hire a person just to watch rondo’s game on vidoe and point out everything he does wrong that could easily be fixed im not saying fix his jump shot bc thats not easily fixable. I’m saying easy stuff like ONE HAND PASSES FOR NO REASON, FINISHING STRONG TO THE HOOP INSTEAD OF FLOATERS OR TOUCH LAYUPS,PLAY DEFENSE WITHOUT REACHING< IN THE FAST BREAK GO TO THE FOUL LINE AND STOP THERE AND WAIT FOR EVERYONE ELSE TO RUN TO THE HOOP. these are all easy things that could be fixed but the coaching staff allows rondo to get away with it for some reason outside of my understanding.

Rondo is pissing me off with his turnovers. It looked like he made 10+ turnovers this game.
Sick and tired of his lack of effort.

Explain to me how the fuck a team that shoots TWENTY-FIVE THREES can get a 24-8 FT advantage over a team that is more aggressive to the rim?? We had more points in the paint, more rebounds on both ends, shot better, had more assists, and held them to less than 40% shooting. Add in the two OBVIOUS goaltends that were missed and this game has all the makings of a screwjob. Bennett Salvatore lived up to his reputation of a ref that always screws Boston. KG “mysteriously” gets a 3 second call despite only 2 seconds going off the shot clock when PP is wide open with a 3 to tie the game. The whole game was poorly officiated FOR the Nets. Anyone who tries to be an uppity ass/hater and act like I’m not right needs to just stop watching games. Stats don’t lie.

WOW…an internet tough guy talking trash to a chick. You’re from California dunce, that makes you SOFT. Chumps like you know jack shit about sports other than what you see on Sportscenter highlights. Go return yourself to your mommy’s basement and stare at your Gasol poster hanging over your bed. The funniest thing is I GUARANTEE Nora could whoop your punk ass in under 3 minutes.

Gonna toss something out here, only as a possibility…is it possible that Rondo is suffering from depression? His main buddy and workmate just got yanked out of his personal life. It was traumatic for the entire team, and Rondo was closest to Perk.
Depression happens to a lot of people, and it can happen to pro athletes the same way. In the macho world of pro sports, admitting you have depression is looked on as being mentally weak, and is often rejected as being a problem by the person suffering through it.
Some people are more prone to depression due to their brain chemistry, and are pushed over the edge easier than most. If this was the case with Rondo, it might explain this latest dip in his game play, as well as others in the past where he seemed to be playing with less than Rondo-like play.
Some symptoms that appear with depression:
-difficulty concentrating, remembering details, and making decisions
    -fatigue and decreased energy
-loss of interest in activities or hobbies once pleasurable
When I’ve seen Rondo sitting on the bench, towel over head, he hasn’t looked nearly as interested in whats happening on the floor as he usually seems.
I’m not saying this is what is going on with Rondo. I am saying it is possible, and fixing this kind of problem requires different avenues than just regular fatigue.
Just a thought. For an article on the above:

Its another mail-it-in March. Whatever. At least this frees up some extra nights with my girl, knowing they don’t give a shit until April.

I don’t know what to say. I just finished watching another trash bucket of a basketball game and I am not speechless; I have to say something. What’s wrong with these guys? I thought this was the season to find redemption from having the 7th game of the 2010 championship stolen from us by Joey Craword & Company’s 21-7 free throws in the 4th quarter. What happened to Celtic heart, character and basketball intelligence? I have been watching the Celtics and bleeding green since the 1966 Russell-led championship when I was 13. This performance tonight was again infuriating! Listless, heartless, gutless, mindless! They looked like they were stuck in mud. Rondo keeps putting up stinker after stinker. He hit one jump shot and his defense was again, embarrassing. Look who was supposedly guarding Deron Williams when he hit the game-ending 3? Rondo, off balance, lost on the pick, flailing 5 feet away from him. Rondo couldn’t guard his man if he had an 8-foot lasso (because he is always 10 feet away from his man), And the basketball choices were even more infuriating. Boston is down by 4 with 8 seconds on the clock and everyone but Baby stands around to allow Rondo, of all people, to take his lousy 1-foot beyond the free throw line clunker. What were they thinking? Did Doc draw this one up or are these guys all on brain freeze? When Lopez hit his short hook, WHY WAS BABY GUARDING HIM? Baby gives up like 7 inches on him. Why not have Garnett on Lopez and have Baby on Humphries? Even Doc seems to have lost his edge here. The referees were awful but these Celtics lost this game all on their own. If these guys need a rest then let’s just cede first place to Chicago (which is now what we have done), cancel the rest of the season and take a siesta until April 14! They played a good defensive game last night and returned tonight as zombies. Maybe someone on this team will take defense seriously for four quarters of the game and will just start canning the open shots the other team gives them. No Russell team I ever saw played like this. No Cowens/Havlicek team ever played defense like creatures from The Night of the Living Dead. And the 2008 Celtics played with guts and heart. Where’s PJ Brown when you need him? Don’t excuse them because of the injuries, or back-to-back games, either. I want my team back. I want my team to go out on their swords every game, every possession. That’s the Celtics way. That’s how we got 17 banners. Where are my Celtics? Let’s just suit up Havlicek, Cowens, Bird, KC and Danny Ainge right now and let them have at it. Their average age may be 72 but they’d still play with more heart than this team did again tonight. If you want to play a sport where you can walk up and down the field of play, take up golf. The Celtics are the team who shed their blood sliding for loose balls across the floor. What’s wrong with these guys?

Same shit different night, Rondo. He has totally checked out. Disinterested, no hustle, throw away plays aplenty, he seemingly has no intention of working to get the new guys on the same page as the rest of the team. I think its juvenile behavior and it has to stop. Blaming this performance on not being able to get up for a poor opponent is a cop out. They have a VERY limited amount of time to get this team going at 100% and integrate the new additions. You can see other guys (Paul and KG specifically) trying to make things work. I think they understand completely the challenge they face. But Rondo is the vital cog in this engine, and when he bails on the team, no amount of effort from anyone else is going make up for it. I can honestly say Ive never been this frustrated by Rondo, and Ive been frustrated by him plenty in the past.

AGAIN, 24-8 FT advantage for a Nets team that shot TWENTY FIVE THREES!!!! Bennett Salvatore handed this game to the Nets on a platter.
