Bucher: Murphy headed to Celtics

Via WEEI's Ben Rohrbach:

Ric Bucher on ESPN.com: "I've been told Troy Murphy is headed C's way & I could see Leon Powe winding up back there, too, after buyouts."

@spearsnbayahoo on WEEI: "I talked to Leon Powe today. The Celtics are the frontrunner for him." Knicks & Lakers also interested.

We kinda had a feeling Troy Murphy was the next domino to fall. Puts some logic behind the Semih Erden/Luke Harangody deal.

As for Leon Powe, I'm not sure how much he has left. Although I'll take him over Luke any day.

  • Hopefully its 2008 Troy Murphy, not the one that was sent home from the Nets in January.
As for Leon, he would be a feel good story, but I see some Deion Branch parallels there.

  • I better grab an I Love Leon shirt from the REDSARMY store before the prices go up!!!!!

  • Bring back Powe now! The Celtics need his character and toughness now more than ever. He’ll help the team, even if he’s not healthy enough to get playing time.

  • Should’ve kept Powe for the 09-10 season. Yeah he was rehabbing his knees, but he would have played in the Finals. Could get more out of him in 2011 than out of J.O.

  • Even if Leon doesn’t end up being able to play, he might be worth the roster spot on emotional value alone.
But while I was originally furious that the C’s didn’t re-sign him while he rehabbed, that ended up being the right thing at the time. If they had kept Leon, there would have been no roster spot for Shelden Williams, and then there would have been no functional backup 4 early in the season when Baby went braindead and punched his friend. I know Shelden was a disgrace in the Finals… but early in the regular season he was very needed.

  • why he wasn’t playing in Cleveland?
