House of Horrors

Oakland's Oracle Arena. The Boston Celtics' house of horrors. Since 2003, December 29th, 2003 to be exact, the C's have been unable to pull out a win at Oracle.

Could it be GSW's usually frenetic, fast-paced offense that wears the C's down? Or is it the sellout crowds that have made Oracle one of the NBA's rowdiest arenas? Probably a bit of both. But either way, the last time Boston won in Oakland, Nick Van Exel was the Warrior's starting PG, Avery Johnson was his backup, and Cliff Robinson the starting PF.

Since 1996, when the arena officially changed it's name from the "Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum", the Celtics are 3-11. And of those, 11 losses, their have been some tough ones. Like Baron's dagger in February of 2008:

And a Decemeber 2004 game where Mike Gorman had to go to the hospital at halftime, and old-nemesis Derek Fisher helped put the nail in the coffin:

The 2010-11 Warriors are 26-29, and as usual, full of young, athletic talent. Let's hope the Celtics can find a way to win at Oracle this year. They tip-off in Oakland on Tuesday night at 10:30pm EST.

  • wow. i’ll be watching at the oracle tomorrow (my first NBA live game EVER), so i hope the C’s win.

  • I still remember the 2008 loss. It was a heartbreak. When Rondo missed these two free throws, I thought ‘well, at least we have an overtime’. We all know how it turned out.

  • Awesome!! Have fun, and wear your green!!

  • hahaha of course! i’ll be wearing my rondo jersey, ‘coz it’s his birthday. =))

  • that’s for damn sure.!!i lived in the bay area for very first celtics game was on january 2, 1981..larry bird “shut out” 0-9 from the field, celtics lose 121-106.!!ricky brown and larry smith took turns guarding bird..while bernard king and purvis short torched the c’s also they had a back court of john lucas and world b. free, and we all know who the center was joe barry carroll, how’s that for some trivia.?

  • Underrated crowd in Oakland. I thought that 2006 team that beat Dallas was pretty likable. This team is a little weird, with Ellis/Curry essentially playing the same position and David Lee not really doing much of anything.

  • I am going to see C’s play in Oakland also. I hope they can pull out a win. I also hope Shaq plays. I know a lot of Celtics fans going, so hopefully we can take the crowd factor out. As long as the Cs dont take the night off, as they usually do when they play the warriors, we should be alright.
