Report: Celtics have interest in Troy Murphy & Rip Hamilton

Yahoo! Sports Adrian Wojnarowski references the Celtics in his trade rumors article:

The Hornets will likely be in pursuit of New Jersey Nets forward Troy Murphy(notes) once the Nets reach a buyout agreement with him after the trade deadline. Nets coach Avery Johnson made clear he didn’t want Murphy after the three-team trade that brought him from the Indiana Pacers. Trade talks have gone nowhere for Murphy, who has an expiring contract. Nets GM Billy King will ultimately work a buyout to free Murphy to sign elsewhere.

In addition to the Hornets, several other teams are expected to show interest in Murphy, including the Boston Celtics, Miami Heat, Orlando Magic and Dallas Mavericks, sources said.

Richard Hamilton(notes) will have to be willing to give back a significant portion of the two years, $25 million owed him to get a buyout on his contract. Sources said the Celtics still remain intrigued with Hamilton as a scorer off the bench.

While we've heard the speculation regarding Rip Hamilton before, this is the first time I've read Troy Murphy and the Celtics in the same paragraph.

Murphy is a big body who can rebound (8.5 career average) and shoot from the perimeter. I can't imagine the Celtics bring him in, unless Jermaine O'Neal and/or Shaq couldn't go the rest of the season.

What do they give up to get rip? if Delonte is coming back do you think they try to trade nate for a 2/3?

they’d have to wait for a buyout.. then buy a guy out themselves… and sign Rip for the veteran minimum.
Same with Murphy. They both make about $12 million. I think both are highly unlikely

If Rip gets bought out then Daniels is probably the casualty. It may seem like a messed up thing to do but if Marquise can’t come back the Celtics best bet is to buy him out and continue to pay for his medical bills.

  • Classless

Murphy has been available all season and nobody wants him. He can’t play and doesn’t fit what the C’s need. Rip would be great. I would gladly sacrifice Nate for him, if needed.

Either would be great, but I though Ray disliked Rip?
