No suspension or fine for KG

KWAPT February 5, 2011 Uncategorized 23 Comments

Our pal Chris Forsberg from ESPN Boston just reported that according to an NBA spokesman, Kevin Garnett will not be fined or suspended for his actions in last night's loss to Dallas.

With about 7 minutes to play in the 3rd, Ticket got into it with JJ Barea under the basket. Referee Eric Lewis reached his arm out towards Garnett and Ticket pushed it away. The league is generally very stern towards any type of contact with their refs. Check out Forsberg's complete story on his ESPN Boston Celtics blog.

Even the NBA doesnt want to fuck with KG

You can’t suspend or fine a player for touching a ref when the ref is the one initiating the contact, especially in this case when the ref keeps his hand on KG for no reason. If players can’t touch refs, then refs shouldn’t be able to touch players. So definitely the right call by the NBA this time.

haha kg only has 1 ring and gasol has 2. owned

True-the ref initiated that. Regardless, I’m as big a KG fan as you’ll meet and I really appreciate the intensity. But only when it’s needed. You don’t want to hurt your team by getting suspended, injuring yourself or becoming a target aka Sheed.

    Celtics>Lakers in rings. Owned

  • Lakers4Life

Nora, remember this! Lakers have won FIVE titles since 1988, Celtics have only won ONE! We are knocking at the door of history! We will be surpassing you’re Smeltic Fags in the next several years in most titles! I kinda hope your Celtics win it this year because, it will be another TWENTY MORE YEARS FOR YOU AND THE CELTICS TO EVER SEE ANOTHER FINALS IN BOSTON. By then, LA will probably have five more titles then! You’re pathetic Smeltics have to trade half of there team to get ONE player! ENJOY THIS SMELTICS LAST STAND NORA! lol!

  • Goceltics

KG has been really careless lately. The official was just trying to calm his ass down. That wasn’t even a hard foul by Barea. He could have gotten suspended for a stunt like that. This guy is a great player, but he can be a real prick sometimes. He could have used some of that energy towards the end of the game. C mon KG! Your a grown ass man.

  • Nora

Remember akll those championships The Minneapolis Lakers won. The number of championships are what is important. Celtics have the most any way you want to look at it. Bye troll

  • Nora

So championships only count as long as it favors the Lakers lol. Celtics have the most and they don’t try to count championships that were won in a city 1800 miles from them. Lakers counting those as if they earned them in LA is truly pathetic

  • Nora

If players can’t touch refs then what right do the refs have to touch players? You can get your point accross without touching someone and this includes the refs!!!

  • Goceltics

The ref was holding him back! Maybe the NBA should hire security guards to touch the players when they get into it. Cmon. He should have gotten suspended for that. The Ref touched him and KG goes into a tantrum.

  • Nora

You stand in front of the player you don’t touch them. Get a clue

  • Nora

    That gets the point across

  • Nora

Yeah and when a player touches a ref then they should automatically be suspended. No overreaction can be seen there either.

  • Goceltics

No, a player should not get auto suspension for touching a ref in an innocent way, how ever if it is confrontational. Different story.

  • Nora

    Overreaction *rolls eyes*
Funny how the league disagrees with you.

  • Lakers4Life

You’re such a moron! As long as the team and organization carries the name and title “LAKERS” that MEANS EVERY TITLE COUNTS! I expect this out of a poor Smeltic fan! What do you have for me now Nora!

  • KingJames6

Nora’s just worried that her Celtics are never going to see the title again for along time. Miami’s the team to beat, and we’ll keep Boston out of title contention for along time!

  • Nora Likes it

    I like to be touched.

  • Nora Likes it

    I must be touched.

  • lakeb

how can celtic fans even compare franchises with the lakers. Lakers are the best franchise in all of sports…..the BULLS AND SPURS AND PISTONS have been better franchises than you in the past 30 years…wake up

  • paul

You KNOW that you totally misdescribed what happened. Garnett didn’t push the ref’s hand away as the ref reached out to him. What happened was that the Ref was fully in contact with Garnett for some time, had Garnett pushed against the stantion, and maintained that contact long past the point of necessity, to the point of seeming to grope Garnett, but what certainly did NOT happen was Garnett pushing the ref away as the ref reached for him.
The ref was at fault there. Doesn’t change the fact that Garnett needs to cool it, but I’m more concerned that the team should play with more commitment and intensity. You can’t have failed to see the pattern, that Garnett seems to get most worked up in games where the team as a whole is lethargic and losing to a team they should be beating.

If you’re arguing whether or not KG had a “right” to shove the ref’s arm away, etc., you’re missing the main point. KG is rapidly slipping out of control, and it’s hurting his team and is likely to get worse now.
This is not the first recent incident, and it wasn’t even the first incident IN THAT GAME (earlier, they showed KG purposefully seeking out and fouling Chandler). Plus, KG DID commit a flagrant foul according to the NBA, which the refs failed to call. Had they called it, it would have been EVEN WORSE for his team than the tech. As it was — that tech cost the team a chance to tie the game in the end, since the final margin was 4 points.
Altogether, the Celtics are likely to suffer from the fact that the NBA did NOT suspend KG. Maybe that would have brought him back to reality. As it is, he will probably continue his crazy ways — never apologizing, never even RECOGNIZING that what he does is wrong, that these are OTHER PEOPLE he’s shoving around, and potentially injuring.
I fear KG’s heading down a very negative path. Soon, he will piss off not only most NBA fans, not only the referees… but his own fans too.
