Rubio wants to play for the Celtics

Ricky Rubio is currently property of the Minnesota Timberwolves… but the consensus is that there is no way in hell that he will play for them.  That consensus doesn't include the TWolves, apparently… which means Ricky's family will be pushing for him to play for someone else.

The Timberwolves continue to push him toward the N.B.A. as soon as possible, contending privately that they have a commitment from him for next season. But Rubio’s camp does not appear to be convinced.

“The bottom line is, why would he want to play in Minnesota?” a senior member of Rubio’s camp said this month. “He’ll continue to say all the diplomatic things, and Minnesota needs to keep his value up for trade purposes, but the family’s preference is to be on the East Coast, specifically New York, Miami or Boston. He wouldn’t be troubled if he has to stay another year.”

I doubt this will happen.  I don't think Rubio would come here to be a back up to Rondo… though it would be interesting to see these two be thrown at opponents.  Rubio is exciting, but there are serious questions about his game.  Much like Rondo, his jumper is a weakness.  And he's had his ups and downs internationally despite all those highlights.

Of those 3 teams, I could see Miami trying to make a play for Ricky seeing as they are so weak at the point… and his flashy style of play could be an exciting compliment to Wade and LeBron… especially on the break.

Rubio will play in the NBA someday. It might not be for the TWolves… but it probably won't be for the Celtics, either.

Sorry Ricky… Boston already has a terrific young point guard– one who was willing to play for the bad team that drafted him and make it and himself better.

But but but Kahn said he’ll play for the Wolves next year! (Uh-huh… right…)

I wouldn’t want a player who doesn’t even support his own team (even if it’s bad) that drafted him.
    Pass.

Just don’t see how this could work for us. First of all, he have Rondo. He devour almost every minutes on point guard position. Even as back-ups we have Nate, Delonte and A.Bradley (I think he has bright future). All of those back-ups can play on shooting guard too. So we have enough this position players and we don’t need one more.
In fact, R.Rubio is even bigger little crying girl than R.Fernandez (y’all remember how he cried about his role in Portland and about his minutes). So after Rondo sit on the bench, it will be crumbs left to Rubio. I guarantee that Spaniard won’t like it. It means it will be knife for our team microclimate.
Second thing about why we don’t need him is he’s worse version of Rondo. He has shooting problem and he’s first pass PG. As Rondo back-up, we need expressive man, that can shot, that can give immediate benefit. Rubio isn’t player like that.

First of all, we** have Rondo.
P.S. and R.Rubio can only play in PG position. He won’t defend others SG, as he can’t shot very well. So Delonte, Nate, and even Bradley in this area has advantage against Ricky..

Who does this nobody think he is? So sick of players who have done NOTHING in the NBA (mostly foreign players it seems) who think they can dictate where they can play before they have proven themselves in the NBA. Disgusting. They should be happy to be playing in the NBA.

We have the best PG. We need to focus on getting the most out of his talent.

the only way i consider it is if you look at trading rondo for rubio love and wes johnson.
and even then im not sure i would take that deal.
i mean if we were gonna trade rondo, not that we are, which package would you take, rondo, nate, jo, and quis for melo and ty lawson; or rondo for johnson love and rubio?

I watched Olympiakos vs. Barcelona in the EuroLeague Final last year…give me Juan Carlos Navarro over Rubio all day. Overrated.
Every time I’ve watched Rubio, I’ve been incredibly underwhelmed.

i have to agree with you. all the stuff that rubio does was cool when he was 16 doing it against grown men but now it’s like the same old stuff and i would rather for him to have developed a decent jumper by now. i mean the entire world knows he can pass but can he knock down a 3???
