I suppose it's not a shock to see NBA players overwhelmingly pick the defending champs. The C's are second… which should be a little bit of bulletin board material.
But how about Miami at only 3%?
NBA players arent dumb, they know when it comes to playoffs, there’s not a ELITE team that Miami can beat, also if 1 of the BIG 3 go down, theres no chance!
Since it was taken in December, a good part of this poll would have been taken BEFORE Miami turned the corner and went on a tear, before the apparently-highly-successful big Orlando trade, and before the Lakers started losing. I think a poll now would be very different.
Way I see it… healthy, the Cs can and will beat anybody. Their toughest outs will be in the East, both Miami and Orlando, but Orlando figures to be the toughest out of the season. (We will have to shut down BOTH their outside game AND their much-improved, Howard-centric low post game. I’m also assuming they will acquire a serviceable backup big.)
In the West, I’m not even sure the Lakers will make it to the Finals. After winning 2 back to back, looks like the fire is out on that team… plus Kobe is past his peak, now on his way down the other side of the mountain. Obviously SA is the other major contender in the West. I don’t see anybody in the West that the Cs can’t beat, when healthy. And pretty easily.
Damn I haven’t been on this blog for ages… I gotta say you guys do a great job with this site, props. I think this is actually more of a bulletin board type thing for the Spurs, who are clearly one of the top 3 teams in the league, yet get no respect from teams for some reason. The only team that has really showed up for them is the C’s. We’re taking it all the way this year guys, Febuary- on is more than enough time to get our returning injuries healthy and clicking again.
The players aren’t like the fans who just see a team on paper and then immediately call them “the best.” Players understand team chemistry and other intangibles, so the Lakers and the Celtics get the most votes because they consistently prove they’re the best on the court against the same guys who are voting, especially come playoff time. LeBron and the Heat have a lot to prove, and it does not surprise me that they’d get that low a percentage. Obviously if fans were polled, the statistics would be significantly different because the Heat have a really good rating in NBA 2K11.

Fantastic point by DRJ. Couldn’t agree more.
Also, I wish we could see which players voted for who. Do you know if players can vote for their team, or if they have to vote for another team?
How can San Antonio, the team with the best record all year, only have 1% vote? If they keep up this pace, they’ll be only the second team with 70 wins. Celtics/Spurs finals! Count it!
Not a surprise. Players love LA, not matter what. I’d rather them have the bullseye then the Celtics.
The way that the Lakers are playing, however, does not make it look that they deserve to win another title.
idk about you retards but 69% to 22 is a big margin and December is over with….players base their votes of how teams are going to look during the playoffs….you haters
Yeah what he said, polls mean way more than getting OWNED by the clippers.
the 3 percent who voted Miami are Dwade, Lebron and Bosh…LOL
What’s even more shocking is how SA only got 1% yet are the team with the best record in the NBA.
Records mean nothing. Championships do.
We’ll miss you sweethearts in the Finals this year.
