Recap: Celtics survive furious finish

I wasn't worried. Were you worried?

Despite leading by 16 points midway through the 4th quarter, the Celtics need a Ray Allen three ball with :10 seconds left to seal a 99 – 95 win over the Blazers.

With 5:09 remaining in the 4th quarter, the Celtics led the Blazers 96-80. And then it happened. The Celtics offense fell stagnant. Painfully stagnant. The Blazers took advantage and ripped off a 15-0 run.

They wouldn't score again until a struggling Ray Allen (9 points, 3-12 FG) delivered the dagger.

Paul Pierce (28 points, 9-11 FG, 4-5 3FG) scored 12 points in the 3rd quarter as the Celtics finally started to pull away. They used a 17-4 run to take a 7 point lead into the final quarter.

Another solid night from Glen Davis – 16 points, 7 rebounds.

KG needed 5 stitches to close a gash on his chin. It didn't appear to affect his yapping one bit.

I'm still not sure what the Blazers were doing defensively on the possession were Ray nailed the 3. Pierce held the ball at the top of the 3 point line while Portland fell into a psuedo 1-2-2 zone. Pierce promptly whipped the ball to Ray for the clincher.

This game worried me cause the Blazers had lost 4 straight and are hungry. A win is a win but I dont like they closed this one. On the positive side, Ray is deadly and they’re winning most of the close games.
    KWAPT, were you there?

This game was painful to watch in the 4th. Gotta give the Blazers credit, they didn’t give up. Go Ray, Ray!

Slightly sloppy gamee… with the refs making bad calls, it was preety hard for the C’s to get into a rythm, shoulda been a blowout, but a win is a win, when you play under control, the refs should almost never have an effect on your game… and the C’s played hard all the way, though giving up 16 point lead with 6 mins to go…. fairly solid win…. is anybody still saying BIG BABY should stop pulling the jumper?? looks to me, thats how we stayed in this one… GO C’s!!! 14-4!!! Where are all the Laker trolls now? Celtics on a 5 game winning streak and Lakers are on a 4 game losing streak.

Yeah, the Refs were horrible tonight. Tommy was killing me tonight when he was bashing the Refs on NBA Tv. Go Tommy!

Yessir. Wild night. It was quite frustrating during all of the 1st quarter, and the last 5 minutes of the 4th when the C’s almost handed the Blazers the game. I also was appalled at the turnovers and the Blazers getting over 40 pts in the paint. But as we have a few other times this year, we just kept fighting and wore them down. Also, Rondo is still not giving his all. Another week or so, and I think he’ll be back to full speed.
I also love how despite the fact that Ray had missed everything all night, Pierce still gives him the ball in the clutch. These guys trust and rely on each other. That is what champions do. Exhausted..gnite.

The refs was terrible. Absolutely TERRIBLE. I almost lost all faith in the game after watching that shit. I thought for sure they rigged it for Portland to win. I’ve never seen so many NON calls and just touch calls on the other end. Shaq got hammered two or three times, on over the back rebounds… no call. Clear fouls on drives to the basket not called. Then they want to call a touch foul on KG defending in the post. There was soo many more. Then they took an “official” timeout… seemed the game started getting called more even after that. I mean what is that crap? “Well guys it’s starting to become to obvious we are trying to help Portland, and they aren’t getting it done, we gotta start calling it more evenly.” That’s what I think went down in the Official timeout.
    RIDICULOUS

Oh and… Thank you JESUS! Once again

What a roller coaster ride this one was. Encouraging to see the team win a game they probably would have lost last year.
Anyone else think that Doc was calling a lot of the plays tonight? Seemed like every other time down the floor Rondo was looking back over his shoulder to get the play.
The team REALLY looked like it was the second night of a B2B. Like Champs, though, they stuck to the game plan and got it done.
The refs were awful! Awful both ways. Too many no-calls and bogus calls for both teams. That three second call on KG took the cake though. Sure to the letter of the rule hi left foot was in the lane for just over 3 seconds, but really?!

A very FRUSTRATING game to watch, because (a) the refs were blind and out of their minds, and (b) the Cs came out lethargic and looking like they didn’t care if they lost. Rondo was strangely off most of the night, throwing MANY passes that were just a little off their mark. But our guys fought back — big difference from the past couple of seasons — and took control of the game. Yeah, they then proceeded to blow the big lead (surprise, surprise), but for me the key thing was that the Cs DID get it together, and DID take over the game with great D (esp. PP in the 2nd half) and reasonable offense.
In some way, this game, though poorly handled in spurts, points the way to a successful season for our guys. It showed that even when they don’t feel like playing hard, even when they screw up — they can come back and win. Makes me feel better about their chances this year.
