Pierce talks at length about 20,000

Pierce arms raised 20000

Paul Pierce took to his Globe blog today to talk at length (as the headline would suggest) about scoring his 20,000th point.

Go read it… but here's the best part.

You know, you say [Havlicek & Bird] those names and those are Hall of Fame players right there. Top 50 players. Just to be mentioned in the same sentence with them as far as scoring, it means a lot. These guys are part of history. These are guys you’re going to remember in Celtic lore forever. Hopefully I can keep my name in that category as I continue to play and continue to do good things for this franchise.

But honestly, the only thing that really matters to me and my teammates, and the only way to etch our name among the true legends of the game is multiple rings. So we got some work to do and we know what we gotta do. I couldn't have done this without the support of my teammates, the fans and the Celtics organization, and we all need to work together to get that Banner 18.

So yeah, I shed a tear or two when the crowd roared and helped celebrate this moment.
It was emotional, no question. And for me to cry, as a grown man? That right there tells you a lot. When my mom whupped me when I was a little kid – I didn't even cry.

But, you wanna see real tears of joy? That'll come when we get our next ring.

What else can you say?  I look forward to seeing Paul Pierce cry again.  Hell, I might join him.

one of the most under rated players

First of all, what took his a** so long to hit 20K points. I think Kobe did this 3 years ago.
Secondly, he is right about one thing. The tears will be flowing again, but they will NOT be tears of happiness. They will be tears of sadness because there will no championship in Boston, not this year, not next. The Lakers are just too damn good. You guys think you revamped your bench. Take a look at the Lakers bench – a big reason why the Lakers are beating teams by 13 points per game this season.

well, comparing the time it takes to hit 20k isn’t really fair, because Pierce reaching it now, over 10 years into his career, probably shows that Pierce passes more and consequently probably has more assists. if he was more of a ball-hog, then yea, maybe he woulda hit 20k a long time ago.

  • You mean is somehow a problem Kobe scored his 20,000th in year 12 of his career and Pierce scored his in year 13?
You understand Kobe’s in the 15th year of his career, right? Different players start in different years. Kinda keeps the league going.
And yeah, Kobe’s a little bit more of a scorer than Paul Pierce. Shocker. Congrats for noticing.
How do your Lakers fan friends feel about you spending most of your time on a C’s site? You gonna tell them you’re a C’s fan soon… or are you gonna wait till one of them outs you?

You do realize that Kobe, in his first 4 seasons was not the main scorer on his team. As a matter of fact Kobe Bryant didn’t start averaging 20+ppg until his 4th year. Also, keep in mind that Kobe had an in-his-prime, Shaquille O’Neal, and Kobe Bryant STILL hit 20K points before Pierce.
Pierce on the other hand starting averaging 20+ppg in his third year and to say Pierce is not a scorer??? You obviously don’t know your own team. He came into the league as a scorer averging 17ppg from the get go. Kobe in his first year only averaged 8ppg, so we can eliminate Kobe’s first year.
Us Laker fans feel great coming on to your site because we know it annoys the sh*t out of you guys, but as long as you post Laker news on here, we’re going to continue to come and comment, so please keep posting Laker news. See, at the Laker sites, there are no news posts about the Boston Suckdics, that is unless Boston mentions the Lakers (like Doc Rivers infamous stupid words “on paper we’re champions”). For the amount of Laker news you post, I think you are a secret Laker fan and I bet you were in the garden chanting MVP, MVP for Kobe.
