Report: Delonte West punches Von Wafer

Hoopsworld's Alex Kennedy has the scoop on an alleged lockerroom fight between Delonte West and Von Wafer:

After another intense three-on-three game in practice today, Delonte West and Von Wafer got into a fist fight in the locker room.

Punches were thrown and the players had to be separated. The Celtics are considering releasing West, who is on a non-guaranteed contract.

Sources say that Wafer tried to walk away but West followed him into the locker room and threw the first punch. Doc and vets aren't happy.

We're going to hold judgement until all the facts come out. But clearly, this is disappointing news regarding Delonte West.

UPDATE: Von Wafer sent out the following tweet:

Today was a test!…I am a professional and will continue to conduct myself as one…God has a plan for me

UPDATE 2:  Kennedy has more details

After Wafer had showered and sat down at his locker, West approached from behind and threw a punch. Wafer didn't see the punch coming but quickly got off of the ground and connected on two punches of his own. He then wrestled West to the ground before being separated by the team's veterans.

[…]West has gotten into skirmishes with multiple teammates this season and his confrontational ways have grown old very quickly in the locker room. He is currently serving a ten-game suspension after pleading guilty to weapons charges in July.

Multiple teammates?  What haven't we heard?

Woj tweets:

West believed Wafer was responsible for published anonymous quote saying it was "obvious" when West hadn't taken his medicine, source says.

Woj said Delonte was angry at Von for days and this was the culmination… West attacking Wafer in the locker room.  A story had come out a few days ago where an unnamed player made the quote referenced in Woj's tweet.

— Sports Illustrated's Chris Mannix has another update.

— Danny Ainge has issued a statement

Delonte is such a waste of space. I can’t believe we bothered to sign him… ship his ass out of Boston before he tries to fuck Flo Allen

  • Robby C

Not good. Von Wafer needs to go. Maybe West too. Can’t be having this. When is Bradley back?

  • Ugh. There goes that dreamy deep rotation.

    Delonte’s off his meds?
Delonte is WAY more important to this team than Von Wafer. Doc should be able to straighten this out without cutting anyone.
It takes two to tango, and both these guys have a history, no reason to do anything rash.
The only reason Von’s still here is because of D West’s suspension.
Someone tell Lasme to stay in shape.

  • Vinny Bakers

Easy solution. The Celtics should suspend Delonte for, umm, let’s see, 8 games. That ought to learn him.

  • Celtsfan33

I hate hearing this news…personally I’d prefer to keep West b/c I think he’s a better player and will definitely be more valuable for us. Wafer seems to be the odd man out of the rotation. If he’s under Delonte’s skin, I’m all for releasing him and letting the vets talk to West and hopefully straighten him out. Who knows…West is nuts though.

  • Bas Rutten Jr.

What the fuck….whoa boy, I hope this only strike 2 for Delonte. Ugh…bad, bad news.
If we had to chose between the two to keep. Delonte by a mile.

  • D

How reliable a source is this?

  • BRADinLA

I’m actually pretty scared at the thought of losing Delonte but if he’s gotten into multiple skirmishes with other teammates he’s just gotta go man. The C’s don’t stand for that nonsense. Damn, this sucks.

  • jared

Agree. Sad really, but not worth the risk. We need our guys worrying about turnovers and points in the paint, not whether or not a mentally unstable teammate is going go off and sucker punch one of his own (or worse—gun charges if I recall).
West is better than Wafer, but this is the Celtics. Toss his ass (if allegation is true and satisfactory resolution not reached quickly)

  • cmoney

I was very, very anti-Von Wafer. I still am. I hate him for this team. I’m also a big fan of the D-West signing. But if Kennedy’s report is true, West has to go.

  • UhOh!!

west has to go??? come on man gilbert arenas was prepared to have a gun fight in the locker room he hasn’t gone anywhere!!

Keep him onboard and sick him on Kobe, Wade and any other nancy boy

  • BruteFarce

When was the last time the Celtics had a scuffle in the locker room? They both need to get the boot. Lil’ Carlton and Psycho West can’t threaten the team dynamic.

  • Ace

Celtics fans are so stupid. Dude gets sucker punched form the back and I hear statements liek ti takes tow to tango. Freaking choads.

    GO LAKERS !!

  • Joseph 17-16 (it’s just a matter of time)

I LOVE IT!!! Such togetherness in the Boston locker room. HAHAHAHA! Where are the supposed leaders of the team? LOL.

  • BruteFarce

Looks like the west coast is getting word of the fight now. Honestly guys, thanks for coming by to drum up the inanity.

  • precious

West or no West,Boston will fall to the Lakers in the NBA Finals again.

  • G

    LA Gabe
Good for Von! I actually like Von as a player – but he kills the Lakers when he plays them. I think he has a chip on his shoulder since his departure!
    LA parade in June!!!

  • ElGalloGigante

Just waiting on one of these wrestling clowns to smash into Paul/Ray/Kevin’s knee and blow it out…

  • Bulldog

Yeah “precious” after the “whipping” you put on the OLD, OUTCLASSED Celtics as you clowns thought, you managed to almost lose a Game 7 AT HOME with less than 2 minutes left and the starting center out for them! Yup, real lot to be scared about with those Lakers, hahahaha!!!!
Always remember: 12-17 in Finals when moved to LA!!!! YAYYYYYY!!!!

  • mileke

this is very stupid and childish, we are in the mist of tryin to get banner #18 and these stupid assholes wanna fight… two new comers who barely even made the damn team… like what the hell is goin through either of their minds…. wrong is wronng and this situation needs to be solved quickly without cuts, or suspensions, before things get outta hand… i am soo disappointed with the acts of these two, and they need to get it together or get the hell outta here with that…. Just Sayin !

  • WELL,WELL,WELL fighting teammates, it doesn’t really matter. This team not going anywhere, second round flameout. Old, has beens players trying to get that last PAYCHECK. The NBA Champion Lakers will 3-peat regardless of what the SELTIC’s do.

  • The ghetto has comeout of boston!! Yeah, keep both!!…jajaja

  • David Stern

How utterly typical of a classless organization. You Beantowners could learn a lot from the Lakers.

  • beeg

    Ainge says its bullshit.
    — “I did read that story and there was a lot of lies in that story,” Ainge said. “Things were twisted. It’s not true. We’re not releasing Delonte. There have not been any other of these altercations that have happened this year. —
Typical asshole reporters trying to mess with a guy just because they think it might work and give them something more to write about.
Players get in each other’s faces at times. That’s not news.
Adam Kennedy and Adrian Wojnorowski are creeps. This isn’t the first time they’ve pulled this kind of crap.
Why do you eat it up so willingly and push it?
They may not have any journalistic standards, but that doesn’t mean you don’t have to either.

  • FrankF

You’re from LA and you’re talking smack about ghetto’s? Tell me something, have they replaced all the taxis you ‘fans’ burned after the Flakers won last year?

  • FrankF

Like how to tip a chamber maid from Kobe?
