RedsArmy.com’s 1-on-1 with Tommy Heinsohn

RedsArmyAdmin October 21, 2010 Uncategorized 10 Comments

Comcast Sports Net was kind enough to invite us to their tip-off luncheon today.  It was a fantastic day that celebrated Mike Gorman and Tommy Heinsohn's 30 years of broadcasting together… as well as the upcoming Celtics season.

I had a chance to speak to Mike and Tommy for a few minutes, and then grab Tommy for a 1-on-1 interview.

In it, we talk about where his passion for the game comes from, the greatness of Paul Pierce and Rajon Rondo (whom he calls a future Hall of Famer), Shaq's influence, how this team compares to other C's teams, how the C's match up with Miami, and what made Red Auerbach so great.  He also gives Doc a nice nod when talking about Red.

Thanks to Tommy for taking a few minutes to talk with us and to CSN for the invite.

this is awesome, i’m very jealous of your opportunity to talk with him. tommy is pretty much like a grandfather figure to me, and they day he stops working the celtics games will be one of the saddest days of my life. i know he gets a lot of criticism because he is a homer but in all honesty if you can look beyond that, almost everything he says is very insightful. he offers so much more than 99% of sports commentators working today

Fucking CLASSIC! Tommy proves why he’s still employed at age 70-something, while downing wine in between questions. Incredible insight from one of the greatest men to ever grace the organization. Thats the 1956 ROY if you need him.
Fantastic work guys, thanks so much for posting that.

Tommy and Mike, 1 and 1a. Awesome.
Tommy is the best, period. All the hate sent his way only makes me love the guy more.
Putting aside what he has done for the club for a second, those 2 are the best in the business. Anyone who has League Pass knows EXACTLY what im talking about.

Excellent job guys. Tommy Heinsohn is a legend for many reasons as it relates to the Celtics and his willingness to take time out of his event to talk to you guys shows his greatness as a person as well. There’s nobody who do it better than Mike and Tommy and the day we don’t get to hear them doing the games anymore will be one of the saddest days in Celtics history.

Terrific piece John. Because of all the humor he exhibits during broadcasts, I sometimes forget that Tommy was such a great player and coach, and that he was fortunate enough to spend so much time w/Red and other Celtics legends. Man that must’ve been surreal sitting across from him. Great stuff.

I’m impressed that you were able to conduct an interview with him – I’d have crapped myself! This is fantastic. It doesn’t get better than Mike and Tommy. For all the crap Tommy gets for being a homer, the guy’s a legend. We’re beyond lucky to have him. Loved hearing him talk about Red.

Is there any truth to the rumor that Erik Dickerson is Tommy Heinsohn’s illegitimate son?
