Your Morning Dump… Absolutely, coach

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here…
highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as
satisfying as a good morning dump.

When asked if he would come off the Celtics bench, Rivers recalled O'Neal telling him, 'Absolutely coach.

And when asked if playing 10 or 15 minutes per game would suffice,
Rivers remembered O'Neal responding, 'Oh yeah, absolutely coach.'

Rivers added, "that sounds great in August but when you're actually
doing it, it's tough. Especially if you've been a guy with the ball in
your hands."

"We can't focus on Shaq the star," Rivers said. "We have to focus on Shaq the role player on our team."

CSNNE – Doc says Shaq will be a team player

Face it critics, Shaq is buying in. For the first time in years, he's on a team with several players and a coach he must respect.

Anyone know why Doc is making the media rounds in August?

On Page 2, could the Celtics possibly have interest in J.R. Smith?

J.R. Smith is a superb, long and explosive athlete who can shoot from
anywhere. Who wouldn't want him? Perhaps, according to reports, the Nuggets who employ him currently.
Should your team pick him up? He's not winning any nice guy awards, and
his own coach has called him a "good bad player" in reference to his
various shortcomings in mastering the team system, which are overcome
somewhat by his attributes and skill. In my mind, a team with strong
leadership — the Celtics, Heat or Spurs — would do well to experiment
with Smith.

ESPN – True Hoop

Smith (one year, $6.7 million) is souped-up version of Nate Robinson. Better player, worse attitude. I want no part of JR.

FYI – Due to league rules, the Celtics cannot trade Nate Robinson until December 15. Newly signed FA's must remain with their team for 3 months.

Anyone really think Shaq will average 10-15 MPGs this season?
    18-24 is more likely.

  • green8teen

Depends entirely on how Perk does when he returns. Really no way to tell now.
But if Perk comes back healthy and effective, yes I think he will average 10-15 MPG’s.

  • daemian

Until Perk comes back we should expect more than 10-15. Also, why on earth would we trade Nate? He showed fearlessness in a very tough situation. He is talented and totally unique. Screw JR Smith. Shrek and Donkey all the way.

“Will you lay out all you former teamates Kobe, D-Wade, and Lebron, at your first opportunity” “Absolutely Coach”

  • I bleed green in L.A.

JR would have been great if we could have traded Sheed’s contract. I don’t know how we can do it now.

  • Lee in Oregon

No disrespect to Finn, but I cant stand JR Smith. I watch alot of Nuggets games…..other than jack up alot of 3’s, what does he bring? (It’s not defense)
He also makes 6 mil this year, and is a free agent next year. Way too much for a guy who cant even start in Denver. That’s prob why they want to dump him.
I watched Shaq’s tv show for the 1st time last week, he was sprinting against some NFL guys and Olympians…..he actually looked to be in pretty good shape. Hopefully when Perk gets back we can see Jermaine get some minutes at the 4 spot, which is his natural position.

  • HA! Toss them like you did Rondo Shaq!

  • Joseph 17-16 (it’s just a matter of time)

Will you miss your free throws in crunch time … absolutely coach
Have you said the same EXACT thing at other teams … absolutely coach
As soon as things don’t go your way, will you became the Big Puto that we know you are … absolutely coach
Will you be terrible with the pick and roll, like you’ve been throughout your entire career … absolutely coach
Are the Boston Suckdic fans the biggest bandwagon fans in all of sports … absolutely coach.
Will the Lakers three-peat … absolutely coach

  • G4L

“Big Puto” Tu lo que eres un degraciao.. hijo la gran puta, pa que lo sepa mmg. & you gotta be joking with this bandwagon shit.. the Fakers are all bandwagon actors who happen to go to games because the movie studios make them go to promote.. you have got to be kidding!

  • This is an already championship worthy team before adding the future hall of hamer… the Celtics will be great next year and Shaq won’t having a problem coming off of their bench. This is a true team with lots of leadership and chemistry, and no way will Shaq’s ego cause any serious problem. Shaq the superstar makes all-star teams, but Shaq the role player could end up being 6th Man of the year.
