Ariza, Posey involved in 4 team trade

RedsArmyAdmin August 11, 2010 Uncategorized 16 Comments

The day after the Celtics waived Rasheed Wallace… and waived goodbye to what everyone thought was a tradeable contract… a bunch of guys whose contracts would have matched have been traded for each other.

The New Orleans Hornets acquired Trevor Ariza(notes) Wednesday in a four-team, five-player trade that also sends point guard Darren Collison(notes) to the Indiana Pacers, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

The deal also sends Pacers forward Troy Murphy(notes) to the New Jersey Nets and Nets guard Courtney Lee(notes) to the Houston Rockets.
In addition to landing Collison – the young point guard they’ve been
searching for all offseason – the Pacers also have to take on forward James Posey(notes), who has two years and $13.5 million remaining on his contract.

Yes, my opening graph was phrased pretty unfairly because I'm pretty damn sure Danny Ainge didn't just see this trade go through and say "oh MAN..  I totally FORGOT bout that Ariza guy."  I'm sure Danny inquired about the possibility and these teams all wanted something more in return than a retiring player.

Danny… on the off chance that you actually read this… it's just we look at this trade and see players that other teams were willing to move and we wonder why there was no way we could make it happen.  Again… it's probably pretty unfair especially when we consider all the moves that have been made already.  But the gut reaction is what it is.

Houston didn't have much patience with Ariza, huh?  And Indy got themselves a nice little guard.  Not a bad move at all.

we couldn’t get him because every team got someone who was decent enough in return, not someone who was going to retire immediately.

yawn- just table scraps moving around. hornets should have gotten more for their pg, we was suppose to be a stud.

  • Lee in Oregon

I’m sure Danny tried. most of those players have more worth than an expiring deal. Collison is gonna be the point guard Indy’s needed for years. Not sure I get why Houston brought in Lee when they already have Kevin Martin at the 2.
It’s been reported that Portland refused to trade Rudy to the Knicks for NY’s 1st rounder, which has a decent chance of being a lottery pick. Which I assume means they wont take our 1st rounder for him.

  • Lee in Oregon

    WHAT IF????????
Posey get’s bought out by Indy and ends up back in Boston?

I like how you guys continue to think Ainge is THAT spectacular of a GM, but he really isn’t. When was the last major trade that he made that made a difference, and without the help of a former teammate (Frankenstein McHale)? Like I’ve been saying for years, he has NO MORE former teammates that are going to give him star players for scraps. Those days are over.
I know you guys are going to defend him because he signed Shaq, a guy that no other team wanted, and Jermaine O’Neal (a man that averaged 4 ppg in the playoffs and who’s knee has never been the same), whom he gave the full MLE to.
    Face it, Ainge is overrated.

  • Lakerhater

Yeah what he said, Danny shoulda been like mitch upchuck and signed theo ratshit cause every body wanted him.

  • I bleed green in L.A.

Yep, good luck with Theo when Amhurt Bynum goes down next year. You have no bigs that the Celtics will fear, KG OWNS GASOFT.
If Indy does drop Posey, we should grab him??

GASOL- 2 RINGS, GARNETT- 1 RING. GET IN YOUR PLACE CELTIC FANS. GASOL IS BETTER THAN GARNETT, HE IS THE BEST BIG MAN IN THE LEAGUE TODAY

  • I bleed green in L.A.

Scal-1 ring, Artest-1 ring, what’s your point. KG-MVP, Defensive player of the year, 13 all-star apperances, All-star MVP and he owned Pau in the finals both years and will do so again. Our BIGS we’ll dominate your bigs next season.

  • hwood

SMART ONE. PAU ONE 2 RINGS! WITH ONLY ONE OTHER HALL OF FAMER! KOBE! GARNETT HAS 4 OTHER FUTURE HALL OF FAMERS- PIERCE, RAY, RONDO, RASHEED. ALSO PAU IS THE 2ND BEST PLAYER ON THE LAKERS……..PIERCE IS THE BEST PLAYER ON CELTICS AND 2ND BEST IS RONDO. GARNETT IS 3RD OR 4TH. HES A SCRUB, AND HE CLEARLY GOT OUTPLAYED, OUTSCORED, OUTREBOUNDED, GOT MORE BLOCKS, DISHED MORE ASSISTS THAN GARNETT. YOU GUYS SHOULD LISTEN TO EVERYONE AT ESPN OR NBA TV, THEY ALL SAY PAU GASOL IS THE BEST BIG MAN IN THE GAME TODAY HANDS DOWN. SORRY

I like how you guys defend Danny Ainge. HAHAAHA. You guys don’t even see it. Rasheed contract’s was a perfect salary dump for Houston. Let me explain, why do you think Houston traded Ariza? They did it because they were in luxury tax territory and wanted to dump salary. By acquiring Courtney Lee, Houston saves money by dumping Ariza and the 4 years $25M he has remaining. Houston could’ve easily traded Ariza for Rasheed then bought him out. Face it, your GM dropped the ball on this one. It’s either that, or the owners of the Suckdics don’t want to spend anymore money by taking on Ariza’s contract. So take your pick, either your GM is incompetent or your ownership is cheap.
BTW: You guys better hope Perkins is out the entire year. If he comes back and takes playing time from Shaq, ohhhh, the Big B*tch is going to be upset and cause havoc.
And that f&ggot “I bleed green in L.A.” should get the f*ck out of L.A. All Laker fans should beat his a**

Hey dummy I said this point on another blog then another fan added to my original point…
“Danny did what was best for the team. It saves them cash, and they can still get what they need.
The fact he did it without Sheed’s deal is actually a stroke of mastery.
The C’s are now right around $76 mil for the payroll. If they add one more minimum contract at about $1 mil and figure a $4 mil buyout for Sheed which is applied half to each year remaining on his contract, they’d come in at about $79 mil for the year, which will cost them a total of $88 mil after luxury tax.
Last years bill was around $100 mil.
So all in all this offseason the C’s lost:
TA, Shelden, Sheed and House (midseason trade) as well as Walker and Giddens but they were never really a big part.
    They gained:
JO, Shaq, Von Wafer, Bradley, Erden, Goddy, and Nate as well as one more wing out of Hayes, West, Hughes (In all likely hood) and will be paying about $12 mil LESS!
And that’s AFTER Rondo’s pay boost!
Nice work Danny! Very nice work.”
As far as DA being bad and/or ownership being cheap Ariza didn’t fit the 2 year plan. DA is planning on having only Rondo, Pierce and maybe Perk on board for the Summer of 2012. Ariza would eff that up and he is a solid complimentary piece but not a core player to build around starting two years from now.
PS LA was a benefactor of a gift from a former Laker in the mid season of 2008…no? That best big man in the NBA today? And in his prime, yes? So STFU with your weak analysis.

  • Scott

Did you really just reference Pau as the best big man because ESPN said so? lol

  • John

I wasn’t convinced that Pau was the best big man in the leage. Especially after all the times Sheed made him fall down and look ridiculous. But the all caps typing really changed my mind.
