Celtics sign Von Wafer

Von waferThe Celtics have signed Von Wafter to a 1 year contract at the veteran minimum.

Wafer started last season in Greece, but he was waived by Olympiakos and he came back to the US and played in briefly in Dallas.

His best season came in 2008-09 when he averaged nearly 10 points in 19 minute of play per game.  He shot about 45% that season… just under 40% from 3.  The C's are clearly hoping he can provide a little bit of a scoring punch off the bench.

Because he was signed to the minimum, The C's still have Rasheed's contract to play with.

Got a backup wing, that Sheed contract better get Shaq in a S&T.

The FAT MAN has said he’d play in Boston for the vet-min, so no need to waste Sheed’s contract on Shaq.
Not excited about Wafer but havnt seen much of him in awhile, but he can score off the bench. This could be a good deal for both player & team, as Von’s got bad rep and maybe playing with a vet team will settle him.
DA still will hopefuilly get them RUDY, who I think would be great as the 3rd guard. Rudy is an offensive marvel, can shoot better than House, and makes less than 2 mil a year.
Gaffney & Lafayette sweating bulletts now.

I’m a Gator fan, but I welcome this Seminole…now lets go get another BIG.

  • raoul jorge

does this mean celts cant aqcuire anyone w/ a min vet salary anymore?

  • Section328

Yeah, I’d still take Rudy too; good call.

  • Lee in Oregon

They’re at 14 now, 15 if you count Sheed, 16 when they ink Harongody. To sign anyone, they would have to cut one of the non-guaranteed guys (Gaffney or Lafayette). As far as I know, the vet min is ALL they have and yes, they can keep using it if they stay at 15.

Pardon my french when I say, holy fuckin shit. I was not expecting this. Dude’s an athlete….possibly better than TA….let’s see how it goes! \o/
Any nicknames for him yet? If he stinks I think I’m gonna call him Von Retard. And if he’s good….Von Doom!! Or vice versa.

  • greentalk

    Lets go Shaq!!!!!

  • raoul jorge

tnx ! so celts seem to be relatively flexible. i suppose being patient wouldnt be bad strategic move .

  • Idaho.Jim

He tore it up for Houston two years ago. I like it. Means no Rudy though

  • Joseph 17-16 (it’s just a matter of time)

    Von Wafer = Scrub
Well deserving of the Boston Suckdics

  • Joe 18-16 (so close but no “cigar”, as Red would tell them)

…….it’s just a matter of time before the Celtics are the 2011 NBA champions. Lakers eeeeeeeek out a win at home in game 7? LOL!!! If they are that more dominant than those old geezer celtics they should have taken care of them in 5 or 6 games. Especially with home court. LOL!!!
Perk was gone and the Celts owned the lakers the whole game 7 still with a man down.
They still lost. It happens…….but not too often. 😉

U would have to be a really un-educated basketball fan not to love this signing, this guy has no track record of being a stud or anything like that but what he has done is shown people flashes of brilliance with his athleticism and 3 point shooting, he’s young, athletic and he’s a loud aggressve guy who likes 2 battle and talk trash which helps when we are facing barnes and artest, this is just a truly GREAT signing on many levels, he now moves ahead of Queezy as the main backup 4 ray and paul…very excited about this move this is great for the C’s and it only cost the minimum. this is a guy who plays hard every night..now hopefull queezy can move behind him on the depth chart.

Check out 4:00 mark… Von drained one in the Garden

  • finn

Love it, this kids got some serious skills.

    here’s a Von story I clipped from Wiki….
” During a workout with the Phoenix Suns, Wafer reportedly was frustrated by the physical play from Jan Jagla, and responded by laying an intentional elbow to Jagla’s nose, then walked off the court and ended the workout at that point.”
Talked to my buddy Mikey, an avid Rockets fan. He liked Von. Von can shoot better than TA, not as good a defender, but equally as good at turning it over. That was his report of his time in Houston. He should go all out for us though, this could be his last chance.

  • Double P Reppin the B

Von Wafer? That was the best option at wing? Ehhh. Call me unexcited. The guy struggles to even make an NBA roster and most of you are celebrating?
This better not be the last move we make for a wing player

It’s only utube but he looks useful…..

  • I’d say, good for what they had which was the vet min. Use ‘Sheeds contract for a big, which is what they’ll need this year, boards boards boards.
*also just noticed the new Adriana pics.. thanks and keep em coming.

Praise goes out for sticking with this article as your top story.
While other Celtics related blogs have already moved on, the right decision is to stick with some actual big news rather than move on with some puff.
Now you could follow up with some more wafer stuff later, too.
But I’ll let you make that call.

  • BigMck

    Thanks. I think.
The real reason this is still the top story on the site? John is sleeping in this morning.

  • Joseph 17-16 (it’s just a matter of time)

Close but no cigar was what the Suckdics experienced after blowing game 7! LOL, LOL, LOL.
Face it, your team lost. It doesn’t matter if they barely lose, like in Game 7 or get their asses kicked like they did in Game 6, THEY LOST!!! BTW: the old geezer Celtics are just another year older. Ray Allen – 0 for 13 in Game 3, and pretty much a nonfactor for the rest of the series after. Why do you think that was? He had no more legs. A jump shooter needs his legs for his shot. Ray is older and his legs are giving out and your idiot management signed him for another 2 years!!!
And don’t hide behind the Perk being injured crap. The Laker starting center needed kneed surgery and continued to play. If Bynum didn’t need surgery, forget it, the series would have went 5 games, MAX! Don’t also forget that Kobe needed knee surgery (which he got earlier this week) and his finger was broken. So don’t give me this sh*t about injuries.
Face it, the Lakers are eventually going to have the most championships in the NBA. They are still in their prime, the west can’t compete against the Lakers and Miami still can’t compete against our bigs. It’s just a matter of time now.

  • Nicole Ferraz

    Von wafer? I’m sorry who?

  • Lakerhater

Yeah because mithc upchuck signed barnes and theo ratshit? idiot.
