Your Morning Dump… Where TA wasn’t feeling the love

Chuck - Red's Army July 24, 2010 Uncategorized 16 Comments

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here…
highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as
satisfying as a good morning dump.

"Ultimately, it was the way [the Grizzlies] embraced me, the way they
reached out to me and let it all out," said Allen. "They let me know I
was needed. In Boston, I was kind of overshadowed by those guys — Paul
Pierce
and Ray
Allen
. Here's a ball club that's on the rise and a lot of guys can
make names for themselves. It's a coming out party for a lot of guys on
this team."

"I don't mind embracing the [defensive] role, but there is more to my
game; let's not get that twisted," said Allen. "Whatever I can do to win
ballgames — if that's just passing out Gatorades or flashing towels or
giving somebody a high-five, I'm willing to do that."

ESPN Boston – Tony Allen sounds off in Memphis

Newsflash to Tony Allen: You will still be overshadowed in Memphis. Instead of sitting behind future HOFers like Ray Allen and Paul Pierce, you will now take a back seat to O.J. Mayo and Mike Conley.

I'm sure Danny Ainge didn't kiss your ass like Chris Wallace, and that made you feel like the Celtics were keeping you on the back burner in case something better came along. But maybe if you played with bit more consistency over the years, the Celtics would have made you a priority.

Enjoy Memphis, your new teammates and the fresh start. Also enjoy the short season. The Grizzlies finished 10 games out of the 8th spot in the West.

On Page 2, a birthday present for John.

what a douche. he actually thinks that memphis is going places. he will always be overshadowed because he he only half a player .never consistant on the offensive end and only good defensively for half a season for us. what an asshole

  • DiP

if he only had a brain…

  • Lee in Oregon

You were overshadowed TA, mainly because on their worst days, Ray & PP are about 50 times better than you can even imagine being. And partly cause you cant shoot or dribble.
My main memory of TA, besides the hundreds of times he dribbled the ball off his foot and out of bounds, is that he had his Championship ring made into a pinky ring.
The weird thing, he wont neccessarily get more minutes in Memphis. Hope he likes rednecks and barbecue.

Wow, how can you guys blame Tony for this decision. Put yourself in his shoes, and you’d make the exact same decision.
He actually seems much more mature now, too. When you combine that maturity with his passion, he’ll be a solid player wherever he’s at.

enjoy those 2000 mile plane trips to the rest of the western conference and those half empty sedated crowds at your home games…..

Happy birthday John! Is it today? Mine is too haha have a good one man.
And no comment on the ta situation

  • chucksux

chuck and all his loyal followers are stupid. if doc used TA better and gave him more confidence, he’d have played better. guys make bad plays and are tentative when they have no confidence, which is a direct function of the coaching staff and the locker room. nobody was bitching about TA when p double was out and TA was the team’s only option in 06-07, and nobody was bitching when TA was shutting down bron and kobe. Danny made a bad decision and the team just got weaker.

  • KY Celts fan

    Is that you, Tony?

  • Adam

Maybe it’s remarks like this is why Tony wasn’t feeling the love!

Blaming Doc for Tony’s shortcomings is the most ridiculous excuse I’ve ever heard.
I’m dumber for reading your comment… and I might delete it to spare the rest of our readers.

  • The real champs

His defense will be missed..I dont know anyone else who can play D on Kobe as good as he did

  • Celtics4Life

Tony definitely did a lot of great things for us and he will be missed but his talent can be replaced…hopefully this year. You guys that are bashing him sound like a bunch of teenage girls that just got dumped by your boyfriend…relax

  • CoachBo

    I wish you had.
Good Lord, if it wasn’t for Gerald “Single Digit IQ” Green, Tony Allen may be the dumbest Celtic ever.
Hey, Sherlock: Grab a jump shot. And while you’re at the clue store, see if you can pick up a copy of “101 Easy Ways to Avoid Doing Something Stupid with the Basketball.”
Addition by subtraction. Tony Allen will disappear in Memphis.
