Cue the Rondo for CP3 trade speculation

Now that Chris Paul has allegedly demanded to be traded out of New Orleans (he prefers the Knicks, Magic or Lakers and maybe Portland and Dallas), the media and fans have started rampant speculation about deals.

Bill Simmons (via Twitter):

Boston has the hammer offer if they want to make
it: Rondo, Perkins, Sheed's ghost, No. 1 + 3m for CP3 + Okafor. NO has
to say yes to that.

The guys at Celtics Hub remind us that the emergence of Darren Collision might deter the Hornets from taking Rondo.

Update: Because Rondo is classified as a base year compensation player in 2010-11, a 3rd team is needed to facilitate a trade.

Update: Paul prefers the Knicks because Carmelo Anthony is also heading there so they can team up with Amare Stoudemire and beat the Heat, a source tells ESPN.

So we throw this out to you:

its good to have CP3 with the celtics, but the Celtics have already built the bond and chemistry that is very elusive for many teams…

I still think Deron Williams is better, but I’d trade Rondo for Paul without a doubt. As much as I love Rondo, I dont fully trust him. He totally pussed out in the finals when Kobe was guarding him, took himself out of the equation, didnt attack at all, and IMHO that’s why they lost the series. Paul is tough as nails, plays dirty, and would never back down. I actually cant stand the guy, but if he wore green, I’d love him.
Rondo is a cheaper contract though, and point guard is the one place they dont need help.

Love Rondo and don’t want to see him or Perk traded, even for CP3.

I love Rondo as much as the next guy. AT the end of the day though you have to understand it’s a business and CP3 IS better than Rondo. Okafor and Perk are a wash, similar size/weight but Okafor has a little more polished offensive game and Perk is a little more polished defensively. Both are great defenders though and not very good scoring options. I think getting CP3 would elevate us back into the elite contender discussion.
What CP3 could do for our offense is massive. and you don’t lose any defensively. It’s a no brainer IMO. You really think we lose the finals last year with CP3 replacing Rondo? No chance only thing we struggled with was scoring, we can still defend.

  • PaulPierce34

Perk > Okafor. Are you guys kidding me? This is the dumbest deal I’ve ever heard of.

  • Bas Rutten Jr.

    FUCK NO.

  • Shawn-cvd

Rondo’s elite status (and passing Paul) is dependent on him developing a jump shot and hitting his free throws. Paul is elite now. I’d honestly be thrilled either way. Losing Perk would be tough and the Summer of 2012 plan would go out the door.
Rondo is BYC contract so I have no idea if this would work…

Rondo for Paul is no brainer. Everyone would make that deal. Tough part for me would be losing Perk as he is a better defender then Okafor. Okafor is very good defender though. Perk being included would be just to make money work. If you can do deal without perk somehow then it is huge home run deal. Probably is even with perk included.

What is the big love affair with Kendrick Perkins??? The guy just blew his entire knee out, is so insanely INEPT on the offensive end of the floor he is a complete liability. It’s like because he has a knack for bothering Dwight Howard you guys think he’s the best thing since sliced bread. He’s OVERRATED. He might do good against D12 but go back and check Howard’s numbers in that series, besides the 1st two games he was pretty dominant.
I honestly think Okafor is almost an upgrade over Perk at this point

  • Double P Reppin the B

His last 3 games in the Conference FInals against Perk:
    28pts, 12reb, 1blk
    21pts, 10reb, 5blks
    32pts, 16reb, 4blks
How much does he really shut him down?

  • CFH

I’d hate to see Rondo and Perk go. I’d hate it a lot.
Even if the players involved were a wash (and they aren’t), reputation matters at least as much as reality. Chris Paul will always get a better deal from referees and be a better lure for free agents. That alone is enough to make that deal if it were really on the table.

  • Dianne

I can’t stand more of these trade rumors involving Rondo. Rondo is perfect for this team and this city.

  • Joe

I’m amazed at the lack of basketball knowledge on these threads. Chris Paul is better than Rondo. Hands down. Paul would change the dynamic of the Celtics drastically. Defenders would no longer be able to shy off the point guard, because Paul can actually knock down a jumper. And if you can dump Perk, who may never even get back to being the crappy player he was before the knee injury, and Sheed’s contract, you have to do this. But then again, half ya’ll wouldn’t trade Perkins for Boozer, anyway.

  • aaron

Rondo is better and CP3 just had a season ending injury….
the C’s are NEVER trading rondo… ever

  • Celtsfan33

We have Rondo locked up at the right price and right number of years – I wouldn’t do this deal – it’s not happening anyway.

  • Rondo isn’t going anywhere, especially for Paul. Simply a pipe dream …

  • Kayleigh

There’s no way the Celtics would trade Rondo and Perkins for Chris Paul. Paulis is a better point guard than Rondon now, but for how long with his knee, he’s injury prone, and that’s the last thing they need. What they need is a young player that has a future with this franchise, so when they Big 3 is gone they have someone to re-buid around, and that’s Rondo. He’s only 24, he still has room to improve. I have nothing against Paul, but we have what we need with Rondo, and that comes with a furture.

  • DR. NO

Its all a freaking rumor. that’s why i don’t pay attention to them. rondo will retire as a celtics.

  • CT

Rondo has become one of the best players in the game, not just one of the best point guards. However without a decent shot I don’t see how he’ll ever be as good as Chris Paul. However the gap has narrowed quite a bit, so you wouldn’t want to give away too much else.
Perkins is a beast, he is tough and plays like the old school guys who hated their opponents. Yes his offensive is limited, but toughness like his is hard to find and shouldn’t be underestimated. Toughness is a skill just like speed, a good shot, etc.

Highly unlikely it happens but I’d do it immediately – there are some players u don’t turn down.

  • CoachBo

    You shouldn’t be.
Celtic Fan has some weird pathological attachment to any living, breathing human being that Danny Ainge drafted.
How else can you explain the tireless annual summer blizzard of “Bring Back Gerald Green,” “I want Ryan Gomes,” “Sign Delonte” threads? None of those guys is anything more than a dime a dozen role player, yet Celtic Fan would mortgage the franchise’s future for a reunion of the horseshit 2007 team. It’s just bizarre.
You bet I’d move Rondo for Chris Paul. In a heartbeat. But it ain’t happening.

  • CoachBo

The problem is you can’t have a PG who shoots fouls worse than Shaq, and whose jumper comes and goes like the BP oil leak.
Rondo’s game is on the upswing, but he’s nowhere near as accomplished a player as some on here would have you believe.
