Tony Allen Returning to C’s?

Jay July 9, 2010 Uncategorized 6 Comments

Last night on CSNNE’s Sports Tonight, sideline reporter Greg Dickerson “broke the news” that Tony Allen is returning to the Celtics.  He did not give details about the contract, but seemed very certain that TA is returning.  I never thought I would say this in a million years, but I’ll be glad if this is true (just as long as TA doesn’t try to handle to ball AT ALL).  See the clip below:

    question…
how does re-signing all of these players go against the cap? on paper, their roster is around $70million right now. do the bird rights help reduce what goes against the cap?
a cap of $58million, and already $12mil over the cap, that seems like a disaster to me…so i must be missing something here.

When you hold Bird rights to a player you can sign them to a contract that exceeds the Cap limit. So it’s possible to sign contracts to Ray, Tony, and Paul that put us over the cap. The luxury tax limit is at 70 mil so any dollar spent past 70mil costs double.
