Ray was Doc’s first call at 12:01

Ray doc

Via the Globe:

"I can't go into who but I can tell you we started at 12:01 last night like everybody else did," he said. "The first call we called Ray. We sat around and we have these names on the list and we said hey guys our most important guy is Ray. We gotta get Ray back. Paul and Ray. And we already talked to Paul because we could. Ray is a vital part to our basketball team, huge.

It's been said before, but we'll say it again… Doc didn't come back to have these guys sign somewhere else.  However, the way money is being tossed around today ($80 million for Rudy Gay?  Really??), I'm starting to wonder if the Celtics are starting to get priced out of some of their targets.

Meanwhile, It looks like the first person to hit up David Lee after the 12:01 clock was Danny Ainge.  But what's he worth if Darko is worth $5 million?  More than the MLE, that's for sure.  The C's also have interest in Anthony Morrow

One more note:  Phil Jackson is returning to the Lakers.  Good.  I want to see the look on his face when the Celtics get their revenge next June.

I thought revenge is a bad thing remember? http://www.redsarmy.com/home/2010/06/7-hours-until-game-time-oh-really-fool.html
“So make this about revenge if you’d like, Lakers. The second you do, this thing will start to fall apart. The second you start to make this about anything other than executing the game plan and beating the opponent in front of you, you lose.”
Guess that didn’t turn out well

David Lee would be a great pickup, even if we had to lose BBD, TA, Scal and Nate to get him.

  • Shawn-cvd

Idiot! This is an independent blog. No affiliation with the Boston Celtics. Were the team playing for revenge that would be unnerving. Boston plays Celtics ball and they have good a chance as any.

    Morrow, yes.

  • Shawn-cvd

I would laugh so hard were New York’s grand free agency plans were to sign and trade D Lee to the Celts for that!

i’d love David Lee too, but I think we are dreaming about landing him

Yeah this team really needs to get some youth for the future. The LAST thing we need is another rerun of the last Big 3 era crumbling as they get older and the bodies break down.
If Ray and Paul are looking for 3 or 4 year deals I really think you gotta start looking somewhere else. I love the guys but the organization is in some tough financial situations with these older guys contracts and being tied to them for 4 more years is not going to be enjoyable after next season. We need to maintain SOME flexibility.
I’ve said it before I’ll say it again, I don’t want this team to be Rondo and a bunch of old guys. We commit these contracts to them and that is essentially what the team will be for the length of Rondo’s contract. I would be VERY surprised if this team can duplicate what they did this past year again.

OMG your infactuated with Redsarmy. Seriously you and the other laker trolls haunt this place two weeks after the season is over? …and yet you spend your time researching previuos posts? Get a f#cking life. or a girlfriend. or a gerbil what ever.

    Big question marks:
KG could be better next year than last.
This new rookie might get a chance to play considering his D is nba ready. In turn he may prove a steal of the draft 1-3 years down the road.
PP for 3-4 years, Allen for 2 more. You then have staggered expiring contracts to give Boston flexability.
We were hoping for Gay and he’s now overpriced. Should we let Pierce AND Ray walk we are not enticing destination for any up and coming SG.
Sheed’s expiring contract could land us someone decent. If we only have the MLE to improve with then I say we’re stuck and rebuilding is more tempting.

Remeber this? Laker fans are idiots.

Lakers got Artest with MLE last year. Danny needs to see what shakes out after the idiot spenders get done. At this point they should be on the phone to Sheed, begging him to come back.

I love going after david lee, he is a perfect addition to this team
what i would do is give paul and ray 2 year max deals
then trade sheed and baby for david lee
then split the MLE between Travis Outlaw and Brad Miller and resign tony, scal, and bring over erdin and we’ll be good for next year

  • Lakerhater

That would be a tough squad. I hope Danny can come up with something close to that.

  • Lakers4Life

Guess Boston fans really do have bandwagon fans. You would never see this in the Staples Center and never ever back in the Forum days. Just show how desperate the Celtics are for a true superstar cause KG is on his last legs, Ray has lost his shooting touch just look at his performance in the Finals beside game 2 & 6. And Pierce simply is getting old. These Celtics won’t be back in the NBA Finals and you can take that to the bank with cha.

hahaha already talking mess a whole year before the 2011 nba finals to the lakers? how pathetic, thatd be a funny thing to see again

Um…Chanting “Kobe sucks” while he’s getting his MVP shows more hatred for a player than him receiving MVP chants on the road.
It does show how winning solves most problems because had the Lakers lost Kobe would have been public enemy number 1 (especially considering how awful he played in game 7).
Oh yeah and stop with the”but he rebounded” crap. If it was Boston by 4 points EVERYONE would have been saying Kobe choked on the biggest stage. In my book he still put on a horrid performance and was fortunate to Artest mixed a little clutch (luck?) with his crazy.
What can you say? The guy is an amazing if not selfish basketball player a polarizing douche.

But it turns out the Lakers *did* play for revenge. Everybody knew it, on both sides. The worst thing the Celtics could have done was beat the Lakers as bad as they did in ’08. If Boston had just made it a simple victory then the Lakers wouldn’t have had so much motivation to win back-to-back titles in their search for revenge and Boston probably wins this year for a second championship in 3 years. Beating the Magic was a disappointment for the Lakers but the Celtics didn’t hold up their end of the rematch bargain last year. This year they showed up and got to experience the “fuck, we lost our starting center” nightmare. Sucks, right?
It was a great series, a scary series. I was glad the Celtics won the East because the Lakers got home court. And then lost it. But the second mistake the Celtics made was losing to the Lakers because now the Lakers *know* they can beat the Celtics in the Finals. And the Boston Big Three only get older now.
The Celtics have to figure out what to do about Ray Allen because he’s a less amazing version of what Robert Horry was for the Shaq/Kobe three-peat teams. Great shooter getting less great, when does the team cut him to get a better replacement? I don’t see Pierce leaving, he understands the rarity of being with one great franchise for an entire career. KG is going to do that Shaq denial of age and wear taking a toll and will drive himself even harder than last year, risking injury. Rondo will get better at shooting and truly take over the Celtics. Will it be enough if LeBron actually is true to his “all I care about is winning” statement and ends up with one or two Olympic teammates in Miami or Chicago? Next year will be even harder in the East, the big free agents are steering clear of the Lakers and the West.
