Herald: Doc Rivers is staying

Doc

Via Steve Bulpett of the Herald:

Doc Rivers is not opting out.

The Celtic coach will be returning to the club for at least the remaining season on his contract, a source close to Rivers indicated moments ago.

The fact Rivers is staying on would seem to be an encouraging sign that the Celtics’ main players will also be back for another season.

Via Yahoo! Sports:

The Celtics reworked the final year of Rivers’ contract with a raise from the $5.5 million he was owed, sources said, but Rivers wasn’t ready to commit to a contract extension.

Via Boston.com:

"I'm coming back," he said in a text message. "I want another crack at it with this group."

Thank you, Doc!!!

More to come…

    Booyah!
    Now go get carmelo danny!

  • NineSevenEight

Great motivator and an all-around stand up guy.
    Thanks, Doc.

  • Lee in Oregon

The first piece is in place.
    In Danny we trust.
I read on Hoopsworld that the team holds an option on Marquis Daniels for next season. I thought it was a one year deal……anyone know for sure what’s up with that?

Good stuff. This guy has been with us through the best and worst of times. Glad he’ll be around at least one more year. To lose both Doc and Thibs would’ve really been a drastic change for this organization and it’s players. Now let’s resign the Truth and grab a couple of decent young players and get our trophy back where it belongs.

That means that Pierce will redo his contract to allow Ray Allen to stay.

Well this is a relief. I love Doc and am glad he’s coming back.
Now on to the hard stuff. What to do with these guys? Bring back the group and hope to God you can land David Lee with the full MLE? Am I dreaming?

  • Joseph 17-16 (its just a matter of time)

I like how you idiots think Rivers is a good coach and the brains behind the operation. Thibodeau was the brains behind the coaching staff. His hiring before 07-08 season was the difference in the coaching.
Think about it, Doc has 3 hall of famers and the Boston offense is subpar at best. 3 hall of famers, an all-star point guard, and they only get 80 to 90 points per game. That’s terrible. Now you idiots are going to say, “that’s because we focus on defense”, and that’s where Thibodeau comes in. It wasn’t until his arrival that the defense got better. Doc has no offensive coaching strategy, and Thibodeau was the brain behind the defense.
Face is Suckdic fans, Doc is hack and will remain a hack. What’s his record in close out games again? It’s fitting though, Boston deserves a hack.

    YEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Joseph, I could bash you for posting nonsense like this but instead will just say that you sound pretty miserable with your life, sorry to hear that.

  • Shawn-cvd

Now your talking! Rondo Mello would be sick !

  • Double P Reppin the B

You lack so much Basketball sense with this posting it’s seriously pathetic. How can you even consider yourself a basketball fan if you clearly have such little idea of the game? Go troll somewhere else you’ve been posting here for a couple weeks now and have yet to make a solid point. Just spraying banter in every direction like a moron.

  • Shawn-cvd

Sounds like a dream. But Lee might take two years then we can bird right him…

  • Danno

Hey Joseph – I noticed the 17-16 (it’s only a matter of time…) bit in your username and I have to ask –
    Are you originally from Minnesota?
    No?
So shouldn’t that really be 17-10?
Because neither you, nor your “Lakers” (Hilarious, does LA even have any lakes?) were there for the first 6 titles.
    What a fucking boob.

  • Joseph 17-16 (it’s just a matter of time)

It’s call franchise titles. Perhaps you’ve heard of it? The NBA acknowledges it, all except for the scum in Boson. That’s just because you guys are scared. All the Boston titles that were won in the 60s (ya know before any of us were born) are now being caught up by the rival that’s catching up. Live with guys, it’s just a matter of time before the Laker franchise have the most titles.
Danno – obviously you can’t count, the Lakers have 11 titles in L.A (not 10). 11+5 = 16. How you learned to use a computer is beyond me if you can’t figure simple mathematics.
And you guys say that I lack “basketball sense” or don’t know what I’m talking about based on my last post, give me some examples of the Suckdics being a great defensive team with Doc, prior to Thibodeau. Ray Allen was not that great a defender in Seattle or Milwaukee (he was ok). Pierce was not that great of a defender either. Interesting how when Thibodeau arrives, their defense gets strong.

  • Leo

As a Lakers fan, I hope both the Celtics and Lakers come back at full strength (Perkins/Bynum), and that we both meet in the finals next year. I’ll obviously never root for the Celtics, but I think you guys have one more run in you to get to the finals.
And don’t bring up the Minneapolis thing…It’s not our fault that they started there, and moved to Los Angeles later. There’s not a hard core Celtics or Lakers fan who would bring up the 16 vs 11 championship thing.

  • Lakerhater

I see you had to leave rondo, KG and Perk off your list to make a point. But your logic is consistant, I’ll give you that, like ignoring the minneapolis lakers. By the way, do you claim the St. Louis Ram’s championships as your own too? How about the Raiders? And I assure you the “scum” in Seattle will never recognize anything OKC and that turd clay bennett achieves as having anything to do with the sonics.
    You truly are a boob.

  • Joseph 17-16 (its just a matter of time)

Ok, I’ll add Perk and Rondo to the list. Rondo is the same thing. He started in 2008, ironically enough when who got there? Thibodeau. Notice how is defense got better that year.
And you can say the same thing for Perkins. His defensive improved after Thibodeau.
As for KG – He was always a good defender. He didn’t need Thibodeau like everyone else did.
As for your ascenine comments, the Rams went to St. Lous AFTER Los Angeles, so you couldn’t call them champions after they left L.A.. As for the Raiders in L.A., yes the NFL was still calling them champions even after they got up and left Oakland for L.A.. You’re so stupid that you even made my point.
As for Seattle and OKC, that’s up to OKC, the franchise, if they want to acknowledge their title.
Face it Boston F*ggot, the Lakers franchise has 16 championships. It’s just a matter of time before 17 and 18 come.

keep on smoking whatever u smoking.

  • realtalk

Doc would of never coming back if the big 3 wasn’t coming back. paul and ray will resign and they will add more pieces to the puzzle, to make another run for banner 18th.
