What about Ryan Gomes?

Ryan gomes

The Blazers just traded for Ryan Gomes… but they're not going to keep him.

Team president Larry Miller said the Blazers will probably release newly
acquired forward Ryan Gomes in order to avoid taking on the remaining
three seasons of his contract.

The team has until Tuesday to
make a decision, but Miller said he has already told Gomes' agent not to
fly him to Portland.

I love Ryan Gomes.  I think he's a hard worker with a great attitude and he could be a huge contributor off the bench.

He makes about $4 million a year right now… and I assume that he'll be happy to make around that moving forward.  The question is… do we bring Gomes in, who can play the 3 and 4 spots, with part of the MLE… or do we save it all for a big man?

I'd like to find a way to make it happen.

    Fat shaq, gomes, Brad Miller.
Sad how quickly the Celtics degenerate into the Dominique Wilkins/Xavier mcdaniels era.
    48 wins? 46 maybe?

  • Loved him during his time here. A solid backup for Pierce (although he’d struggle with quicker 3s) and could pitch-in at the 4.

Gomes has worked hard on his game, he now has a three point shot to add to his post game. A hustler that is a great locker room player with no baggage. I say bring him back Danny!!

  • thetitleisours

    Bring him back!

  • domz

    Lakers need to get him!

  • We love Ryan Gomes!!

  • Double P Reppin the B

    Eh we need big bodies.

  • Double P Reppin the B

and I’d rather have Travis Outlaw than Gomes

  • I bleed green in L.A.

We dont need another undersized forward. We need a backup big to replace Sheed and fill in for Perk for a while. Shaq or Haywood are better fits. If were bringing back an ex-Celtic, make it Al Jefferson or Joe Johnson.

I think there are a few open roster spots and with scal and sheed gone I would fill Gomes with one of them but Outlaw and Haywood would be nice additions as well.

Gomes isn’t a great defender so i doubt that the team will bring him back, though i personally love this guy’s game. he rebounds and can score quite well from inside and out.
My only question on your story here is, why the heck do you think the C’s would have to shell out any big time money for the guy? If the Blazers are just going to release him, that means they buy him out, right? So he’ll be a free agent and can sign for any price. And seeing as there are so many big name free agents this year that will take the brunt of the money that’s out there, anyone not named LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, Joe Johnson, Chris Bosh, Amare Stoudemire, Dirk Nowitzki, David Lee, Yao Ming, Richard Jefferson, Michael Redd, Rudy Gay, or Carlos Boozer are going to go cheaper than they normally would(just look at how last years free agent market worked out, the same thing happened. A significant drop off after the top guys went)
So if anyone gets Gomes, they’ll likely get him for the veteran minimum for a man with his years of service(about a million dollars) or possibly the Marquise Daniels type bi-anual 1.9 mill or at best an Eddie House deal of just over 2 mill. NOBODY WILL GIVE HIM ANYTHING CLOSE TO 4 MILL. . . unless someone gets extremely desperate after losing out on EVERYBODY else and needs a decent Forward who can score and hit the three every once in a while(Wait. . .That sounds familliar. . . Oh yeah! The Celtics were that team a few years back when they signed SCAL to a big deal)
Still, the C’s could get him cheap of they really wanted him, don’t worry about him being the one that would break our cap.

  • NICK

nice thinking buddy, Travis Outlaw could put up 15 ppg in his sleep. he’s 6’9 and he’ll improve his defending here. Great idea to add him Haywodd and BARNES

  • Solid guy at the peak of his career. He’s gonna get you at least 11-12 pts a game and some boards. I have nothing against Mr. Gomes and do like him, but we have to set our expectations higher. Grab Gomes for a bench guy maybe, but we need to be looking for the best possible talent out there. We can do better than Gomes. In my opinion anyway. Hey Nick, are we gonna have to listen to you beg the C’s to get Matt Barnes again this summer? lol..

This is what i’d like our Celtics roster to look like next season: (The first () is their last year’s salary, the second () is what i think the Celtic’s could sign them for and at the bottom you’ll see how i think they can do this without going farther over the cap then they were this year when they were at 95 million. IN fact, in my scenario, they’ll save money but possibly be a better team than last year.
    C – Kendrick Perkins (4)(4)
    F – Kevin Garnett (16.5)(17)
    F – Paul Pierce (20)(17)
    G – Ray Allen (19)(8)
    G – Rajon Rondo (2)(10)
    C – Udonis Haslem (7)(5)
    F – Glen Davis (3)(3)
    F – Mike Miller (9)(2)
    G – Avery Bradley (1.2)
    G – Tony Allen (2.5)(2.5)
    C – Drew Gooden (4.5)(1.5)
    F – Sheldon Williams (minimum)
    F – Tony Gaffney (minimum)
    F – Luke Harangody (minimum)
The way the team does this without going too badly over the cap is:
-by using Bird rights to resign Ray Allen(to cheaper money) and Tony Allen (to likely equal money) thus not adding to their cap number.
-restructure Pierce’s contract so he’ll make 16-17 million each of the next four years, instead of just the 21 million next year
-sign Udonis Haslem with the MLE, thus not adding to the cap number.
-Using Doc’s connections, sign Mike Miller for the bi-annual exemption(if you’re laughing at this, who would’ve thought we could’ve got marquise for that cheap last year, and also Karl Malone once signed with the Lakers for this price. So are you still laughing?) This doesn’t add to the cap either.
-sign Drew Gooden (Using docs Orlando days connections again)for a veteran minimum contract.
-re-sign Sheldon Williams using the non-bird exeption.
-Sign Avery Bradley by using the rookie exception that allows a team already over the cap to sign their first round picks.
    – then round out the roster with either Harangody, Gaffney, and a summer league prospect, or sign some more veteran minimum contract guys which don’t count against the cap.
Sound like a plan? A decent team i’d say. maybe switch Haslem with Brendan Haywood if the chance arrises and Perk shows he’s going to be longer coming back from his injury.

  • does all this mean nate aint coming back?

  • Angry Turk AKA ssshady35

Ya Id like to see Nate back with us next year. I love his energy off the bench.

  • Joseph

Yet another guy that was involved in the KG rip off deal. lol. I think here is one guy left in Minnesota from that trade (Jefferson, and I even think he is on the trading block). Tell me again how that was a good trade for Minnesota and all the value they got out of it.

  • Like it’s OUR problem you guys couldn’t win a championship having Kevin Garnett for all of his best years??

  • Shawn-cvd

Don’t bother with Joseph. He’s not a bitter Wolves fan. He’s a shitty Flakers troll who won’t go else where and enjoy his team’s championship.
Considering that KG was past his prime and Minnesota would have endured an injured KG last year they had to try something. On paper getting Big Al made a lot of sense. Unfortunately he too has been slowed by injuries.

  • CoachBo

Gah. There are about 100 Ryan Gomes in the league – doesn’t do anything particularly well or badly.
Unless he’s willing to play for the minimum, forget him.
