Ray giveth and Ray taketh away

Rayallen

Forty-eight hours after Ray Allen set a Finals record with 8 three-pointers, he layed a giant goose egg in a pivotal Game 3 at the Garden. Ray shot 0-13 FG (2 points) as the Lakers regained home court advantage with a 91-84 victory over the Celtics.

Derek Fisher was the money man for the Lakers. He bailed out Kobe Bryant (29 points on 10-29 FG) and had 11 of his 16 points in the 4th quarter.

KG was fantastic. 25 points (11-16 FG), 6 rebounds in 32 minutes. He took the ball right at Pau Gasol all night.

Paul Pierce was mediocre – 15 points, 5-12 FG and 2 rebounds. He was plagued by foul trouble.

After a quick start, the Celtics offense fell flat. The Lakers built up a 17 point lead in the 2nd quarter. The Celtics chipped away and chipped away all night but could never get over the hump. It was maddening.

The referees were horrible (for both teams), yet again. It was almost as if they avenged Kobe Bryant's Game 2 foul trouble but frequently blowing the whistle on Paul Pierce. The offensive foul on KG (induced by a Gasol flop) in the final minute was horrendous. Unfortunately, the refs had to make up for the previous out-of-bounds replay which was awarded to the Celtics because they missed an obvious foul on Rondo.

Both benches stepped up their play. Lamar Odom had 15 points and 5 rebounds. I knew we were in trouble when he banked home that 3-pointer in the first half. As for the Celtics, Glen Davis had 12 points in 24 hustle-packed minutes. Lots of credit goes to Tony Allen for his defense on Kobe.

Box score | Recap

"Some of the fouls hurt us…. Maybe I should start complaining about fouls. Maybe I could get it turned around like it was turned around tonight. That was amazing." – Doc Rivers

EDITOR'S NOTE: I was embarrassed to read through the comments this morning. I banned as many Lakers trolls as possible. I also unpublished several unsavory comments from some of our regulars. I know it's tough to hold back, but don't engage with these fools. It makes all of us look like idiots. As for Mikey, he's history… on the blacklist. I can't take his nonsense anymore.

frustrating way to lose a game…guess we’ll be heading back to LA after all

  • Jake

I think Allen’s play amazed me more than his play in game 2. On the other hand KG schooled Gasol.

  • jared

No excuse for Rays play tonight. Absolutely pathetic. Hot as fire or cold as ice, once again.

  • Green In Cleveland

Disgusting… after a great start which brought back KG from the grave, we blew it at home, yet again. Ray was unbelievable tonight but in the WRONG way. I kept on expecting him to hit… I still have faith we’ll win the series, but damn it, can’t we do anything the easy way?!?! (Stomach turning, must find bucket/toilet)

  • AMP

    Doc is pissed

  • lakerman34

No guys. We ain’t comin back to LA.
    LA 4-1.

  • NineSevenEight

Ray Allen…wow. Just wow. Never seen anything like that from such a prolific shooter. He couldn’t even make a lay up at the end.
And which star is going to be foul plagued early on in the next game since that’s the most obvious underlying theme of these finals? I say KG. He had a good game tonight. Gotta wash him out next, right?
And how long into the first will it be before 3 key players pick up at least two fouls? I say 9 minutes.

  • http://profile.typepad.com/6p01156f5cd064970c Count Istvan

The Good news is every-time you think Boston is done they play better. it’s only 2-1. Never thought I would say this but I thought Salvatore was the only one calling a half honest game. And no it’s no excuse. The C’s have gotten screwed much worse than that and still won. They just played like spit.

  • NineSevenEight

    He’s going off.

  • Leo

As much as I don’t want to admit it as a Lakers fan, you guys will definitely be back in the series.

  • Caterpillar from Italy

I really think Doc should not be carried into the refs thing, it’s wrong and turns the attetntion out of the real problem.. I don’t even think there was a refs problem tonight. Actually the only problem we had iwas Ray and Paul.
And what can shift a fantastic player to a nightmare player is beyond me.
I’m pissed, I’m mad and frustrated.

  • http://profile.typepad.com/6p01156f5ce367970c celts9

if you two actually think you’re winning the next two games, you’re straight up out of your minds

  • http://profile.typepad.com/6p01156f5cd064970c Count Istvan

I keep seeing these NBA cares adverts on TV where players are reading to kids and yet I would say 90% of Laker fan posts on this board are totally illiterate.

  • NineSevenEight

And Gasol flops whenever there’s contact, Bynum moves and hip checks every screen yet Perk sets a clean one and gets rewarded for his second foul early in the first, Tony Allen gets hip checked by Bynum and tripped to the ground as he takes a kick to the face by Kobe, Ron Artest whacks people in the face and gets PP his 5th foul. Ray runs by Fisher with his hands up and gets called for an offensive foul. See? Works both ways.

  • http://profile.typepad.com/6p011570423591970b KobeWearsAPurpleThong

Obvious things were Ray and Paul’s virtual DNP from the offense, but the interior/transition defense of the Lakers was good too. I also just did not see enough tough D from us-just too many easy baskets. When Perk has 2 or more blocks, we usually win-he had one, and hasn’t had many this series. Lakers D just has been more aggressive so far. They are just tough down there obviously w/Bynum & Gasol together. Also would’ve preferred to see Rondo attack/penetrate more. No time to wallow though-let’s get back in there and win these next 2.

  • Tony Allen’s Lawyer

Celts need to win the next 2 at home, then go out to LA and steal 1 of 2 games. If they can just win the next two, then they’re not in a terrible spot. This series is far from over.

  • Jake

That had to be one of the more bizzare games I’ve ever watched. KG’s playing like it’s the late 90′s, Kobe chucking 30 shots (hit only 10,… wait that ain’t bizzare), and to top it off Ray misses a 3 for every one he had in game 2. Down by 7 with 40 odd seconds to go and it’s we cut it to 5 and we have possession, but no! Offensive foul. and just for the kicks, we’re subjected into watching these replays as if this is some tennis match. NBA where Wimbledon happens.

  • http://profile.typepad.com/6p01156f5ebb21970c JD

I’m going to address each of the players individually, its the only way to vent my frustration right now.
Thank you for that performance KG, sorry nobody else on the team could step up and help you.
Rondo: What the hell man? Where’s the aggressiveness? It was there for the first five minutes, then you just completely backed off. Its unacceptable. You’re the man now, you have to be aggressive, and that means taking shots when you have one. And then on the other end, you just let Derek Fisher get free. Why? All you have to do is stay in front of him and make sure you get a hand up when he’s at the three point line. But no, you doze off on pick and rolls or isolations and he takes you to school in the fourth quarter. Unacceptable. You didn’t have a bad game, but it certainly wasn’t good. Quit shying away from the limelight man.
Ray: …. what the fuck? Great, amazing performance in Game 2, but todays stinker almost cancels it out. I understand that you’re not going to make every three you take, and you’re not going to be amazing every game, but for the love of god will you at least make one? And if your outside shots are not falling, quit forcing it up and drive! You did that towards the end, but it was too little , too late. Extremely disappointing performance.
Paul: Yeah the refs fucked you over a bit, but still, wheres the fire? Wheres the passion? You looked as interested as Sheed did in the regular season out there. We need you to be the captain and lead by example. Well, the team certainly mirrored your individual lethargic play today. And stop guaranteeing shit, its annoying and it fuels the other team because the dumbass media blows it way out of proportion.
Big Baby: Stop fucking licking your goddamn lips and make an open layup instead of getting blocked. Its feast or famine with you man, you just can’t make a solid play. Pretty good game on the statsheet, but you hurt us defensively with late rotations and poor contests, and like I said above, you still have an incredibly hard time finishing. And that turnover caused by Artest was one of the most excruciating sequences of the game.
TA: Great work out there today man, you and KG were the only players that I thought had good games. Great defense on Kobe, and way to take it to the rim on offense. We need more of that on Thursday.
Perk: Great D, good job on the boards, but can you manage to not be a crutch on offense? All you have to do is make layups, can it be that hard?
Sheed: We need you, like Ray, to stretch the defense better than you did tonight, but at least you are showing great effort on defense and on the boards. But why’d you have to go and shave the beard man? Jinxed us…
Alright, I feel a little better, even though the players will never see this.

  • mikey

    Hey.
Glen Davis licking his chops is the greatest thing in the history of the world.

  • Jake

Some one tell me, why did KG play only 31 minutes?

  • prefuse

Always bringing up Laker Fans grammar…. Mostly when your team loses. Stop being a little bitch and talk basketball.

When your fan base comes off as the biggest fucking retards on the planet it’s really hard to ignore.
You must be the King fucking retard.

  • mikey

dude, he broke the record, licked his chops 10 times in 3 seconds, the record will never be broken.

  • prefuse

Garnett does the same thing what Gasol does. Garnett always hold the players wrist/arms when getting post. When Rondo falls out of bounds, its a foul on a Lakers player. Perkins and Garnett holds the other player when they make a screen. See? Rigged??

  • Double P Reppin the B

I’ve never had a more excruciating time watching basketball than these past 3 games in the Finals. Just absolutely horrible and unenjoyable to watch. The refs ruin any tempo possible and are calling this series so tight that I am almost tempted to boycott the damn league because of how pathetic it is. KG was the ONLY player who really brought it tonight. Pierce wanted to bring it but was in foul trouble the whole night. Ray Allen might as well have stayed home and watched with the children because it was painful to watch the team take 20 seconds out of the shot clock to get him open time after time and him just brick and brick and brick,
The lakers were GIVING the celtics the game with HORRIBLE 3 pt shots one after another in this game and we were utterly PATHETIC offensively and then we struggle rebounding and playing defense. NOTHING was on tonight and I’m ready to explode im so pissed off.

  • Double P Reppin the B

by the way Kobe almost lost this game for his team. Lakers were bailed out by Derek Fisher. It’s clear to me that Kobe still doesn’t understand the concept of team basketball it’s still all about him. He’s a joke. That being said we blew the game anyway — if Ray Allen had hit even 3 for 15 we would have won this game. EVEN 3 FOR 15 WOULD HAVE WON. Is that asking a lot? Wow.

  • Double P Reppin the B

shut up you idiot where were u the past few days? only stroll by when you win? Sackless moron.

  • prefuse

Having some Lakers fan trolling doesn’t mean we’re all retards dumb shit. “You must be the King fucking retard.” Don’t contradict yourself, because that didn’t make any sense.

  • xxx123

can someone tell nate robinson he is not as good as he think he is…….

Legs or no legs, this is the finals man. Wasn’t all the regular season rest for games like these.

No the fact that none of you dumb shits can string a sentence together with out misspelling every other word means you are all dumb shits.

  • xxx123

Kobe is a joke? Ha!..the guy is easily one of the best players to ever play the game and he was trying to will his team out of a offensive funk…atleast he was doing something……not stagnant like paul pierce. Kobe is a excellent leader….he is vocal in time outs.he goes up to players on the court and tell them what they need 2 do to win…he is a coach on the floor.

  • http://profile.typepad.com/6p01156f5cd064970c Count Istvan

I know it. Every-time a Laker fan leaves a post he makes an ass out of you and him.

    You suck.
    Don’t be disrespectin Big Nate.

    No you don’t sir.
You just won the nba finals congrats dude.
First 3 game series in finals history.
    And you won 2-1.

  • http://profile.typepad.com/6p01156f5cd064970c Count Istvan

    Mikey consider the source.

  • prefuse

The fact is that your team lost and your mad, so you’re going to be a little bitch and talk about the Lakers Fan grammar. “IS” you mad? While you’re correcting my grammar error, the Lakers will continue to roll on and win the championship.

  • Mike-Return to the Rafters

So instead of doing whatever possible to not have another officiating debacle….the NBA puts Salvatore AND Bill Kennedy, two refs who have historically screwed over Boston, in Game 3. And lo and behold, both of them completely fuck over the Celtics.

  • mikey

Your internet is gonna explode after Celtics win the title (again)

  • Double P Reppin the B

It’s not even about who the refs are benefiting, the whole issue is they are simply taking away from the game being played. You don’t pay to watch games where Paul Pierce and Kobe Bryant and Ray Allen are sitting on the bench because of foul trouble.. The refs don’t have a clue how much they ruin the product on the floor by the way they are calling the games. It’s just brutal to watch. Let the guys play regardless and then you can truly see who the better team is

  • prefuse

Ok, Mr. Celtics 128 Lakers 88 in game 5?

By the way i found it pretty interesting that even mike breen, the espn commentator, called you celtic fans out for that famous game in 07 against us….yeah that one, Kobe mvp chants in the garden?
Another thing, you celtic fans really prove how hypo critic you are. One minute your bagging laker fans for attacking refs, and the next minute YOUR whining about calls.

laker fans have no reason to attack refs.

Getting to the free throw line means either a personal foul or a technical. Since there was no technical, it leads me to think it was a personal foul??

  • http://profile.typepad.com/srswish Sr. Swish

Haven’t been on in a while, but is this really what the laker trolls have been saying all series? Shit like “explode please” and “you would like that”? I’m down for a good back and forth but not if it sounds like a conversation I would have in between “What’s your favorite justin beiber song?” and “Shampoo is better!” When someone over the age of 13 wants to come onto this board and say something intelligent, I’m all for it. I can’t talk to 13 year olds anyway. Like legally and shit. I swear it’s all a big misunderstanding but man, you should have been there. It was wild. But seriously though I hope I speak for everybody when I say we’ll be waiting.

All your questions can be answered if you assume that the outcome of this game was pre-determined, and everyone out there was working to make sure it turned out as scripted.

I’m old enough to remember when they did the same thing in 84. Jerry West said stop the series and give the MVP to little game James Worthy. They did the same thing in 69. It’s all envy of course They know that in order to be as good as Boston they need to win this one and 6 others…before Boston beats them again.

You got this one wrong Prefuse…the LA Trolls ONLY come out when the Lakers are victorious. It’s only when the C’s lose that the comments here are bombarded with the gloating and poor grammar. So let’s recap:
Celtics win= 45-75 comments of fine basket ball talk and rooting for the home team.
Celtics lose=twice the comments laced with nonsensical posturing, excessive profanity (from both sides), and after the fact show boating.

The media circus that surrounded Ray after game two must have nerved the dude out. Wack!

  • Shawn-cvd

Um…Nate scored forty something points off the bench this season. He’s an explosive scorer. He also averages a point a minute when given the chance. He’s also in these games, cheering his team on. Gotta love that passion.

  • Shawn-cvd

The refs don’t change the results, they change the flow of the game. They bench stars due to foul trouble (Ray then KG/Kobe, then PP tonight} The better team will win this all said and done. That is true regardless of the refs. Only thing is new refs or differently officiated games would give potential for a better experience.
We wait all year to watch the two best teams in basketball play and instead we get to watch the coaches micro manage their rotation because the refs wanted to put their stamp on it.

  • steven

suck it up. we lost. dont give them any fuel to get at us with. dont be a sore loser. we lost. we sucked. we’re going to lose this series.

  • DRJ

I’ve gone beyond thinking that the refs are a problem. Everything I saw tonight smelled like it was orchestrated in advance. Paul, who was killing himself in the last game to help his team win, seemed like he didn’t care. Same for Ray. And even Rondo. That’s what guys do when they know they’re going to lose. There is no other explanation.
With hundreds of millions of dollars at stake, I don’t think these games are being played for real. It’s all orchestrated to GUARANTEE a 7-game series, with maximum drama, television viewership, and revenue. Seems far-fetched? Hardly. There have been corporations on the record guilty of doing much, much worse… responsible for killing thousands… in the name of $$$.
What I am seeing can’t be real anymore. It’s a show. And we’re all being played for fools. Which, I think, we are…. for actually caring how this show turns out.
Paul in his interview after the game kept saying “It’s not a script… we’re just playing”. It seems he protests too much. It IS a script. And they followed it well in game 3.
If this series does not go to 7 games, I will question this theory. Otherwise, that’s it for me. Fool me once, fool me a hundred times. But on the hundred-and-first… I’m gonna be outta here.

  • Shawn-cvd

That was truly some the worst postings ever. All these trolls sucking the rapists sack instead of giving props to their team. RSO24 did make some sick shots but it was Fish that saved the day for them. Lamar played a good first half but then went back into his shell a little.
The C’s woes all come back to Ray Ray. This game had Celtic victory all over it. Low scoring, drag out battle. When your opponent scores 91, especially a potent offensive power-house like the Lakers, the Celtics should be able to score at least 92.
Oh well one game does not a series make. Should KG continue that aggression offensively for the rest of the games the C’s are gonna be fine.

  • Shawn-cvd

Hey if you don’t like Boston fine…take a moment and read this…aren’t you proud of LA’s contribution to the comments section tonight?
Congrats on winning a well fought battle. It was painful seeing this come down to Ray Ray having an off night. Every Celtics fan was sure his shots would start dropping only to have the sky fall instead…but for just one game. Boston is very capable of winning game four which will then make this a best of three.

  • Jake

Have any of you guys noticed how difficult it’s become to watch playoff basketball. Fouls, long commercials, idiotic interviews, just absolutely no flow to the game. Even watching Boston win game 2 was onerous. If this is the best the NBA has to offer – clinging to some vestige of a now dead rivalry – I’m afraid it’s time to pack it up. We live in troubled times, or maybe Iv’e just outgrown the game I once so loved. I mean how many of us would’ve tuned in for an Orlando vs LA series? But needless to say we were all riveted to the Utah/Chicago series back in the day. Why? I wonder.

  • Shawn-cvd

STFU so sick of people pretending to be Celtics fans.

  • James

Like it or not, I know I’ve heard i dont even know how many times “well the refs dont effect the outcome of the game but they effect the flow.” Well, and I’m not just talking about the Celtics or the NBA Finals because there’s been some god awful officiating both ways, but when they effect the flow of a game that IS effecting the outcome. It’s just an example, but the Celtics are a team that plays hard nosed, physical defense and uses stops to get out into transition. When you call a foul EVERY TIME there’s contact, no matter which team it’s called on, they’re not able to play their game. It’s the same with other teams in the league. I’m sick of make up calls, I’m sick to death of different foul guidelines for superstar players than role players. A foul is a foul it doesn’t f*cking matter what your name is. I’m sick of the refs standing there and waiting to see if a shot goes in before they blow the whistle, again, if it’s a foul it’s a foul, shouldn’t matter. And I’m sick to death of a whistle EVERY TIME somebody is touched in these nba finals. These douchebags are ruining the league and I’m sick of it. The officiating has been piss poor on both sides throughout this series and David Stern should ashamed….
Okay, I feel better sort of..go Celtics!

  • Slimgoody

The lakers fans on here can yell about this all they want but the fact is Kobe almost lost you that game. When Boston came back it was because Kobe started demanding the ball on every possession and when that happens the Lakers offense grinds to a halt. Fish bailed him out in the 4th.
I felt like it was game one all over again with the Celtics hanging around and maybe could steal the game but Fish closed the door. By all accounts Fish is a solid player, a good teammate and a great locker room guy but for some reason I hate him. Might just be the uniform or how he picks his spots but I hate that guy. Killed us tonight.

  • Celtics Girl

What a frustrating game. Even though the refs do make inexplicable calls, it was a tight game to the end and the Cs had their chances to win it. Ray was amazing in game 2, but he clearly wasn’t hitting much last night, so why didn’t Rondo do it himself or continue to go to KG and Baby?
This team has been up and down all year – who knows what’ll happen.

  • http://profile.typepad.com/the_bantam the_bantam

Ugh. hate being bleary eyed after that loss. Both teams played like crap with long spurts of no points. Generally the C’s played better defense but couldn’t hit the big shot.
Agreed with KWAPT, like to see Rondo get more aggressive. There were a few times Kobe backed so far off of him you could drive an Escalade between them. That just clogs things up inside. Officiating was horrible again, nothing new. A lot of the C’s fouls were pretty dumb.. PP reaching in for his 2nd, KG had a few bad decisions.
The best part was they played solid D and held LA to a low score, they JUST needed to hit a few more shots. KG made his statement game. Gotta take Game 4 @ home now. Rest up boys and put the Game 2 film on repeat, and every KG offensive set from Game 3.

  • mollysdaddy

178th comment? Doubt anyone will see me way down here. Did it seem to anyone else that for very long stretches of the game the Celtics were trying to get Ray a shot at all costs? I think i read something mentioning it way up there. Drove me crazy how Rondo just stood around at the top waiting for Ray to squeak free.
How fun will it be when two of our players have a good game in the same game?
The refs were horrible last night in that they seemed to be so inconsistent. Sometimes insignificant touches (Rondo on Kobe’s elbow) were called. Sometimes real fouls (Rondo wrapping around Fisher late in the game) were not. Other times there seemed to be no foul (Sorry I can’t think of a specific one) and the whistle blew. My impression was it was hard for the players to know how to play. My other impression is that the Celtics let the refs get to them far more than the Lakers. So yes the refs sucked both ways (How did Ron Jeremy slip back in here) but the Celtics lost this one by allowing themselves to be affected more than the Lakers.
    Grrr

  • DRJ

Without inside information, there’s no way to know the details. Makes no difference, though, to the conclusion I have to draw. It’s all a show, a charade performed for our viewing pleasure…. and money. I can theorize about who is and isn’t involved… but there’s no point, really. One thing’s for sure… the refs are involved.

  • larry

don’t lose hope c’s fans, lakers still have to win 2 more games..if ray hits just a couple of shots then it’s a different game…but they have to win tomorrow..as far as the lakers fans go, i grew up in la and they are not as stupid as some of the post’s would suggest.!!they just don’t like the celtic’s style, like a friend of mine said..i don’t like the celtic’s because they are considered stronger and tougher than the lakers…and i told him that’s the way it’s always been…historically..

  • AMP

Not a great win for the Lakers, but certainly a silly loss for the C’s. They had it in hand, yet no one stepped up. Can’t blame Ray myself too much…if we split his points between the two games, the result would be the same.
Good riddance Mikey…I tried to keep you around, but you just didn’t listen.

Not that mad at ray, as pathetic as he was, we would be down 3 games right now without his game 2.
as for pierce…if he continues to yap away and not back it up, hes gonna end up dead to me…good job saying we aint goin back to LA and then playin like dirt paul

  • SorryMan

Whatever happened to freedom of speech?

  • ncy

wow, deleted comments everywhere. things getting quite emotional and heated here. i think this series could go to 7

  • SorryMan

You can’t play that ‘what if’ game, you just can’t. What if Ray only made 6 threes instead of 8? We would have won that game right? What happens happens and you can’t really speculate on events that did not happen

  • http://profile.typepad.com/6p01156f6a54c2970c ToTheRuins

Rondo has been the only starter to make an impact in every game, Pierce has still barely shown up offensively, Ray had an amazing game 2 and 2 complete no shows, KG was a no show until last night.
credit the lakers defense, but this is getting annoying and hard to watch

some serious editing here huh guys? good job keeping things under control (Double techs for everyone!)haha but seriously thank you.

The reviewing out of bounds calls has been exposed in the last two days as just a terrible idea. I bet the owners that voted for it are sitting around banging their heads. Besides the wrong-call-after-review on Gasol in game 2, how the hell is KGs EVER called that way? And what, does the coach get to request a review after every out-of-bounds? That’s a bang-bang play that would never be a change of possession (unless it went off the offense’s leg or something) in a normal situation. And then they have to review Rondo’s no-call foul ten times in a row in slow motion, ON THE COURT? No wonder they create a make-up call immediately thereafter.

DRJ, you’re killing me, you’re the voice of reason. If you start professing conspiracy theories (a la the late Mikey) I’m going to have to rethink the whole world.
By the way, the WWE is still real, right?

  • GoWyo

I’ve often wondered this same thing myself. Missed easy layups, turnovers, stupid fouls. I have to think it isn’t just Stern orchestrating this himself by controllng the refs. I’ve seen games where I have questioned if the game was tanked intentionally by the players and coaches. After all this is BIG BUSINESS, not an honest game anymore. It’s all about the money. It is extremely frustrating and they’re laughing all the way to the bank with our hard earned money!

  • Double P Reppin the B

    Very hard to watch

  • larry

sure i can, did you expect ray allen to go for 0 for 13 and only get two free throws.?

  • DRJ

Look, I know what it sounds like. I also know that it’s likely NO ONE will agree with me. Anyone who does would not be here, unless he/she were JUST coming to the same conclusion, finally, like I am… which is unlikely.
But it is what it is. I have no faith left in this system. I just don’t believe them anymore. It’s all too weird, too hard to explain any other way.
As for Mikey… this is actually quite different from his pet peeve (uhh… the refs). It’s worse.
Btw… all these DELETIONS — gotta be a RedsArmy record! — sure make me curious about WHAT THE HELL WAS SAID. :)))

  • DRJ

It’s another sign of the times. We live in, among other things, the age of ADHD, of non-stop MTV, when Bruckheimer and Bay decreed that movies shall contain no clip longer than 7 seconds, when every child’s eye has been bombarded with non-stop action from the moment it first opened in the television room.
There are, however, still a few, a happy few, who remember a better time, and still long for it. We can make our own reality out of the chaos.

  • http://profile.typepad.com/6p01157060540b970b Orb

Sad to hear it. I have no faith in ANY system, including one that cold-heartedly nefarious. Lots of little nudges I believe in, like picking this crew last night, but not in the “grand plan sense.” Though I will agree this Finals has been awful.
As for the deletions, I read them earlier this morning before they disappeared, and believe me you’re missing nothing. Lots of not very creative name calling. And speaking of, do any Red’s readers go to Lakers blogs after wins to gloat and be annoying? I can’t even understand the impulse.

  • DRJ

I felt like you, until the 4th quarter when I finally became very calm. I realized then that the Celtics were going to lose, no matter WHAT happened. And that this whole dance is choreographed for us.
Maybe game 7 will be for real, I don’t know. It’s possible.
But of the fact that this thing is going to 7 games, I am completely certain. (If it doesn’t, my conclusions will be proven wrong.)

  • Frank

Well, I for one will be sad when Calif. eventually falls into the ocean.

  • DRJ

You’re right, it is sad. And… it’s not really/necessarily a ‘grand plan’ that I see. I’m certain of one thing: that I DON’T KNOW, and CAN’T know, the details.
But I don’t believe that it is what it’s purported to be, anymore. Money and that pure thing we WISH sports to be… do not mix well. One overwhelms the other. Now I’ve come to the point where all my faith is gone. I think they’re playing us all for fools. And rather successfully. The explanations for everything we’ve seen have to be SO tortuous (and torturous) that I just can’t believe them.
So now this fool has seen enough.

  • DRJ

Find your bottom dollar, and bet on it. This is going to 7.

  • DRJ

Whatever odds you can get, bet on the Celtics winning game 4. EVERYTHING points to that. It’s as close to a sure thing as you can get. The script demands it. The Lakers will put up only token resistance. And this is going to 7 games.

  • DRJ

To be great, in basketball as in life, you must know your limitations. Kobe does not. Neither does Paul, on some days. Those two suffer from the same defect… but Kobe is by far the worst.

  • Shawn-cvd

    Amen brotha!

  • Shawn-cvd

This wasn’t an up and down Celtics performance. They fought hard, as did the Lakers, and came up short. I liked the majority of the shots Ray took…the just didn’t go in.

  • Shawn-cvd

    KG was the man huh?

  • Shawn-cvd

I can’t put this on the C’s not adapting as well to the refs. The only game changer due to the officiating was the foul trouble on PP. Going into half time he looked ready to blow up. The foul four after hitting a triple in the third. Then the 5th in the early part of the fourth.
Were Truth out there we would have been fine. Even without Pierce had Ray Ray made one third of his shots the C’s win. Had Ray Ray made that last three it would have brought it to one with no transition Fisher lay up. SIGH…

  • Shawn-cvd

Sure you can do you expect Ray to go 0-13 ever again? This worst shooting night of his career occurred in the wrong game.

  • Shawn-cvd

The refs have put way too many starters in foul trouble so far this series. Every game they’ve neutralized players on both sides. And for what? It can’t be for the rhythm of the game. It can’t be for the pleasure of the fans watching. It can’t be for the $$. People are already tuning out the Finals when the opponents aren’t compelling. Now the NBA has our attention and they offer up this foul laden mess.
As perfect as this match up is the officiating is putting a black eye on this Finals. Last night PP was in constant foul trouble. Trying to climb back from 17 down some made shots from behind the arc really helps and PP delivered 3 out of 4. He normally rebounds better but that’s hard to do when you feel the game is being called tight. You cannot give Ray a free pass with this line: 42 min,0-13, 0-8 3pt, 4 rebounds, 2 points.

  • Shawn-cvd

Um…this is a moderated forum. What will we do next complain that the hosts are ruining the comments section???
The product wasn’t very good here so I was all for RA doing a little upkeep around here…

  • Shawn-cvd

PP did the same thing against Orlando before blowing it up. It’s like he needs to have his back against the wall before that killer instinct kicks in.

  • Shawn-cvd

This have better go to seven games if the C’s are to even have a chance. The Green cannot beat the Lakers three times in a row.

  • Shawn-cvd

Oh and if they do your theory goes up in flames DR…

  • lakerman34

Stop removing Laker fan posts, man. We don’t do it on TLN, don’t do it here.
We beat you guys. I knew it was gonna happen cuz we are just the better team. Plain and simple. Game 5 is gonna be difficult for us to win, ESPECIALLY if Bynum doesn’t play.
However, I’m predicting a good game from Mamba, and I hope Boston doesnt go on suicide watch when they go down 3-1.

  • http://profile.typepad.com/the_bantam the_bantam

He looked great I think. Played aggressively and made the LA bigs take some tougher shots than they had the first two games. We get that same KG , and like Red’s mentioned yesterday, PP and Ray Ray to pick each other up with decent games and I like our chances. Any one of those two falters and we’ll have more Game 3′s, that could be the Lakers game plan, let Perk and KG move a bit more in favor of shutting off the Rondo, Ray, Paul penetration.
