The Los
Angeles Lakers
have never been known as a team that takes offensive
charges. They are trying to change that. Last series, Phil Jackson
called his big men "thin-chested" as a way of goading them into standing
strong and taking a hit, and the team has been offering financial
incentive — $50 per charge.

"To motivate us in a way to
take charges and getting away with it," explained Sasha
Vujacic
.

Assistant coach Frank Hamblen, who monitors the fines and payouts, said
the team has been rewarding players for charges since late last season
and the competition has intensified in the playoffs, although he
admitted that "very few guys are getting charge money."

ESPN Boston – Lakers paying for charges

Soft teams don't take charges. Period. No matter how much incentive you give them.

And this defense is suppose to stop the Celtics? Please…

So pathetic. Man they are so fake in every way. And I’m still so mad KG got hurt last year, otherwise this would be a three-peat and these Fakers would really know their second-class status. Instead, they have their chests puffed because they lucked into a paper championship last year. They are the ’94 and ’95 Rockets, only winners when the real championship team wasn’t whole. Can’t wait for the Cs to lay the hammer on them and squash all debate, relegating them finally to a just footnote of the last three years.

who are they trying to convince.?themselves or the celtics.?they just can’t get over 2008.!they want revenge, but what they don’t realize is that they might get thier ass kicked worse.!!they are trying to play the roll of the underdog that’s all..crying to anyone who will listen..!!the big bad mean celtics took our heart’s away..boo..hoo..this is exactly why i can’t stand the lakers, they are soft, and they will always be considered soft.!!

  • Champ

How come the “hard” celtics have only been relevant 2 out of the past 24 seasons?
What were the “soft” Lakers doing over that time period?

  • NineSevenEight

Shouldn’t an NBA salary be enough to want to do your job?

  • Green8Teen

why do the last 24 season’s matter? what a stupid argument. how about you look only at this season? if you really wanna look at history that matters, look at the last 3 seasons because that is when both teams came together.
and honestly, you wanna bring up history? hows that 2-9 record against the celts in finals history?
“WAAAAH WAAAAH IT ALL HAPPENED IN THE 60′S!!!”
well, don’t bring up the last 24 if you don’t wanna bring up them all.

Becoming only the ninth team to ever blow a 3-1 series lead.
Becoming the first team to lose all three road games in the 2-3-2 format.

  • Champ

Oh yeah. That’s right. It’s much better to not even be sniffing the playoffs than actually competing in the playoffs and winning championships.
I forgot how far you guys dropped off the NBA radar. Pretty funny. Great Franchise.
It’s true, forget yesterday, though it’s hard with all of Celtics fans still talking about 08 like it was yesterday. Gets real old.

Why does the title always sour in Beantown?

He does look like a llama, huh? I knew I wasn’t the only one

My favorite part about this and all the other crap they’re saying out here on the radio (i.e. KoMe will guard Rondo, Gasoft will come out and throw the first blow to prove he’s tough, Artest is the Pierce stopper), is that they need to make all these changes to stop us, but we’re just coming to play our game-no suprises, no style changes. Sure, we’ll gameplan to beat them, but we don’t need any motivation, or let’s play zone or the “we need to do this to Gasoft or that to Artest”.
The more I hear of these changes, the more worried I think they sound. I LOVE IT!

Of course chump if you don’t want to know what we talk about you can take your sorry 2-9 ass and leave.

Like $500 would motivate any of the pastry chefs with the money they make.

$50 make that. Yeah that really matters.

  • NorthernGreen

The article said, $50. They wouldn’t do it for $50, $500, or probably $5000! You have to get out front to take the charge.

Don’t pretend like the lakers didn’t go through a bit of a dry spell themselves. No, it was not as bad as the Celtics’ but most of the 1990′s their ceiling was a team that got swept in the conference finals. Never after Magic retired until the 1999-2000 season would anyone consider the lakers contenders to start the season. laker fans conveniently forget this (or maybe you were all Bulls fans that decade).
You’re obviously a scholar of the game so you know that the Celtics’ struggles were a result of piss poor management (insult Rick Pitino all you like), greedy ownership, some bad luck and the salary cap hell they were stuck in when the NBA team owners refused to grant relief after Reggie Lewis died. We’re past all that. The current owners are committed to winning and Ainge is a chess player, thinking three moves ahead. We might have a couple tough seasons as we transition but don’t you worry, there will be no long periods where we don’t contend.

  • Jason

Having not one but TWO star players/talents actually die is going set any franchise back just a little bit, too.

  • Shawn-cvd

Hey I guess your not a Champion of reading. The title is ours… but what can be expected from a Troll…

  • Lakerhater(FD)

Totally. Spits like one too. He does a helluva fainting goat impersonation whenever anyone comes near him.

    Duh.
The Celtics lost 2 franchise players in their prime and got hosed by all the head refs for the past 20 years.
That will do it for ya.
