I think that Dwight Howard should be severely sanctioned for his causing Glen Davis’s concussion in the 4th game of the Celtics playoffs. I have seen him several times during the playoffs intentionally try to injure Celtics players, notably and obviously Paul Pierce. I am an attorney and feel that Dwight “Dwrongly” Howard has been guilty of assault and battery.
In all my years of observing basketball, I have never before seen any player decked the way Glen Davis was by Dwight Howard last night. Not even a whistle or a foul called. And then but if any Celtic on the floor last night accidentally touched a Magic player, the Celtic was called for a foul last night, but nothing for the thuggish Dwight Howard. As LeBron James goes bulling around the floor, traveling uncalled at will, knocking over his opponents left and right, Dwight Howard has the star status which renders him untouched by foul calls? If one is big and brutish, as Dwight Howard is, there is an upside and there is a downside, and all players should be treated equally, and Dwight Howard should be called on his indecent and violent actions. He committed assault and battery on Glenn Davis causing a serious injury last night, but Dwrongly then and in his previous assaults and batteries on the Celtic players is unscathed by many fouls or any particular comments from the sports casters.
I think Dwight Howard and his thuggish co-player Matt Barnes should be sanctioned severely, and at least be banned from the next playoff game. Where are the ethics of basketball? Unsportsmanlike behavior rewarded? Frankly, after last night’s violence and unfairness, I am beginning to question my continued interest in the sport. The unequal referee treatment last night, [and also particularly outrageously in some Denver games with referee home cooking against the Golden State Warriors] in the extreme was ridiculous, a travesty of justice if I have ever seen sporting injustice.
It seemed to me that, for example, the two outrageous technicals charged to Celtic Kendrick Perkins, then the foul near the end of the game given to Celtic Rasheed Wallace when it was that thug D. Howard who was more to blame, as Dwrongly kept trying to tie up R. Wallace, and on and on and on, makes one think the referees are following a NBA desire just to keep the playoffs going on by giving all the breaks to the Magic and ridiculously unbased fouls to the Celtics, which is extremely demoralizing (as again when a technical was called up Rajon Rondo, for just politely questioning a point) when a player realizes that they can not take any risks at all as another unjust foul will be called. Such unfairness dampens the spirit of a team, especially when the opposing team is liberated to take risks by being given carte blanche to foul away and give concussions and hard knocks to the Celtics. It is really sickening, depressing and sad.
And letting that horrible Dwight Howard get away with mayhem and dirty sneaky tricky underhanded violent hurtful actions against the Celtics, so the two Celtics who had been posting Dwrongly down during the first three games of the playoffs when Dwrongly Howard tried to post up feebly, were suddently out the game — one on phony technicals, and the other with a Dwrongly-imposed concussion? The Celtics’ Kryptonite that rendered Dwrongly Howard extremely unsuper in the form of Glenn Davis and Kendrick Perkins during the first 4 games are suddenly (and not so mysteriously) both are out of the game, and then Dwrongly regains some of his “powers” — that is not basketball sportsmanship — that is verging on the criminal.
I would like to see Dwight “Dwrongly” Howard sanctioned for his unsportsmanlike behavior to say the least, verging on criminal behavior by the NBA. [I in my heart of hearts would like never to see him again in a NBA game, but realize that some people like him.]
Also, no matter how big and strong and talented a basketball player is, star status should not render him immune from foul calls. Dwrongly and LeBron should be treated just like all the other players. When they travel, mete out hard fouls, bull their way around the court, they should be called for those actions just as other players are. No star status immunity from fouls and sanctions….
When a game is as unfairly and meanly played as last night’s Celtics’ game, sportscasters should take notice of it, and call out the NBA, the players who are so unsportsmanlike, and the referees who are so extremely and ridiculously biased. If there is no fairness and accountability for violence, there is no fun, and there is no game. Does basketball have to degenerate and devolve into a mafia like street gangish situation with corrupt officials? How can families enjoy such games? What is such behavior, as Dwrongly’s, teaching our children?
