Pierce doesn’t like the 2008 comparisons

Chuck - Red's Army May 21, 2010 Uncategorized 11 Comments

Via ESPN Boston:

"You guys ask me these questions about 2008, there's no comparison in
the teams," said captain
Paul
Pierce
. "You guys want to make them similar, make them different,
make them better. That's a completely different year. New players are
trying to develop our own identity. Whatever happened then, it's not the
same, man. We're trying to develop our own identity by winning a
championship.

"There's definitely similarities in some of the players, but we
added new players, and the road is a lot different. You talk about
comparisons, it's different. The only way to talk about this is if we
win a championship, then you can ask me. Then I'll be able to tell you
better."

Ditto from me.

Meanwhile, Tom Thibodeau has scored a second interview with the Hornets. Thibs and Blazers assistant Monty Williams are considered the front runners.

“Similarities in some of the players”?? Hmmm… how about the IDENTICAL starting 5?

They are far from the same starting five in play though, with the exception maybe of Ray.
Pierce and KG are not the same caliber of players they were two years ago. Still fabulous players, but not at the same level.
Rondo is light years ahead of who he was.
Perk has a little offense to offer.
The faces are the same on the starting five, but not the game. I’m not sure if Paul is referring to this idea or if he’s a little gun shy to make bold statements now by saying “Oh we are every bit as good.” “We’re better.” Whatever the line might be. Who knows. But I agree it is too early, and maybe impossible, to compare the two teams.

The lakers didnt even gaurd rondo in 2008 and we still beat them they will have to gaurd him now.

Good point, but let’s get there first.

Has a team ever got to the nba finals by beating the best 2 regular season record teams.
Then going on to play the 3rd best regular season record.
I dont think so i could be wrong but it would be impressive.
Boston would have been a 6th 7th or 8th or maybe not even in the playoffs if played in west.
There were 8 teams with a better record then boston when playoffs started now there are 3 soon to be 1.

Yo WTF? So, what if Doc doesn’t come back next year…? If he doesn’t return I want Thibs as head coach. Unless, there’s another big name coach that could help us out?
This issue hasn’t been talked about enough. Who would be the replacements? I basically thought Thibs first, and then….that’s actually all I thought. :)

Too much talking about Finals and Lakers
We still have to win this series, and nothing is granted; let’s stick to game 3 against Magic, and THEN (if we go 3-0) I can start talking about guarding Kobe.
