Did someone flip the switch back to regular season? 124-95 = worst home playoff loss ever.

Shame on me for feeling good about the Celtics chances heading into games 3 and 4. This team has laid colossal eggs all season long at home and tonight was no different.

Hey Paul Pierce (11 points, 4-15 FG), feel free to show up any game now.

During the Comcast postgame report, Donny Marshalll said that he knew 5 minutes into the game the refs weren't going to allow the Celtics to win.

Since I missed the 1st quarter (due to my kid's T-ball practice), I cannot offer an opinion. Is D-Marsh right?

Let me take care of this for Mikey…
The refs made the Celts lose by 30!

  • rodger

Yes the first flagrent on perk was the game.

  • Boston Man

If that was truly a flagrant, Shaq should have been thrown out for what he did to Rondo that other game.

  • NineSevenEight

If this is the kind of effort Paul gives during games he himself claims to treat like “Game 7s,” then I don’t want to see Paul on the floor again in this series. Although, I can’t quite say I’ve seen him to begin with.
Paul didn’t even work up enough sweat to dissolve the ring of CRUST around his lips the entire game. I also loved him laughing it up with Shaq going into the second half…..DOWN 20.
Way to stay focused. Celtics have been playing us for fools all season, this is no different.
PS…How big does that Game 1 collapse look now?
I don’t expect much to change for the Celtics over the next couple of days so long as Paul keeps heaving brick after brick on his way toward building a bridge to lead the Cavs to the ECFs. That, and playing pourous D.

  • Donald

    Couple of things.
    1. I don’t want to hear jack shit about a “hurt” elbow for Lebron. Because It’s obvious he was faking the whole thing.
    2. For all the “disrespectful” superstar talk Pierce does I can’t name one playoff series he has ever taken over.
    3. They were flat from the start. Unfortunately you knew by the foul trouble that this was going to be a long night. 61% Fg’s and 30+ free throws. What can you do?

  • Boston Man

Anybody catch Jeff Van Gundy saying, “She (Beyonce) likes the D”?

  • DRJ

There will be dissenters to this opinion, and they will be wrong. This is what happened in this game:
The Celtics came to play. But the referees were ABSOLUTELY DETERMINED to make sure the Celtics lost tonight. Starting right in the first quarter, the Cs got HAMMERED on their offensive end, and could NOT get a call (worst case: Baby slammed to the ground by Lebron, plus Paul getting mugged, etc.), while the Cavs got every touch foul (worst case: Baby called for a moving pick when he CLEARLY moved nary an inch, plus the “flagrant” on Perk, and much, much more). This was some of the most blatantly one-sided officiating we’ve EVER seen.
That’s how the game started. As I’ve said before, the Celtics are very sensitive to referee misconduct. They certainly showed that tonight. They gave up. From the 2nd quarter on, the referees STOPPED their bias, presumably because it was evident that the Cavs didn’t need it. But the Celtics never stopped giving up. They continued right to the end.
On top of that, the Cavs were just RIDICULOUSLY hot. I mean, they were hitting ANYTHING they threw up, no matter how tough the shot… it would go in. Just incredible.
Put those two factors together — Cs giving up because the refs were clearly biased against them, plus incredible shooting from the Cavs — and you have the blowout we saw.
Some will say (as they always do) “can’t blame the refs”, etc. — and they’re right on some level: the refs were NOT at fault past the first quarter. But the Cs gave up the game BECAUSE OF THE REFS’ MISCONDUCT IN THE FIRST QUARTER…. which they should not have, but they did. In defense of the Celtics, it should be noted that HAD they mounted a comeback, there is NO DOUBT that the refs would have seen to it that it failed. Their bias was that obvious.
The NBA is rotten to the core. Believe it. The only question that remains is: will they let the Celtics compete? Or are the powers that be determined not to let the Cavs lose this series? I don’t know the answer. If I were forced to pick, I’d say Boston will not be permitted to win. But that’s far from certain. I’m willing to hang on and see.
Yes, the Cs played terribly in the last 3 quarters. But it started with the refs.
If this series continues as we saw tonight — the NBA will lose me as a fan forever. Along with thousands of others, I believe. We will not tolerate this pathetic excuse for a sport beyond this series, IF the referees continue in the mode in which they acted tonight.

  • Boston Man

Oh… this was while they showed a throwback photo of Jeff Van Gundy wearing the short shorts

  • Boston Man

“The only question that remains is: will they let the Celtics compete? Or are the powers that be determined not to let the Cavs lose this series?”
Reminds me of WWF Wrestling Entertainment

  • NineSevenEight

But MOST importantly, why are the Celtics letting it take them out of their game? Look to game 2 as direct evidence. Why are the Celtics always hanging their heads? Where is the fight? The effort?

  • mikey

The refs have given the Cavs basically every call in all 3 games. And basically every call now in every game for the past 2 years. I cannot name one call this year that went against the Cavs that didn’t look right, not one. The refs gave the Cavs 10-12 points in the 1st, the Cavs went up 8 points, and now the Celtics are playing behind 20 points the rest of the game.
You say they lost by 30 points, but how exactly did they lose Game 1?
When the Celtics win, no reason to lay off of the refs, regardless of the outcome, the refs cheat.
Look people I already know about the cheating, I’m doing what I can.
The question is what will you people do?
    They cheat.
I’m not going to risk my life for this crap.
If I was at the game, I would have gotten thrown out of the arena sometime in the 1st Qtr by charging the court, but I’m not going to risk what I have. It is not my responsibility. It is the people associated with the organization or the league.
    Run the FBI at them.

  • mikey

of course the Shaq plays were flagrant.
The refs assumed an injury and called a flagrant because the guy supposedly had an injury. Had the idiot not had that injury probably wouldn’t have been a flagrant.
    Hi?
    FBI?
    Are you there?

  • mikey

    There is a few question.
1.Do you people now realize when the refs cheat part of the Celtics give up, can you blame them?
2.What are you people going to do?
3.What are you people going to do that is associated with the league?
4.Again, I’m not getting myself involved and risking what I have for this crap. I’m just a regular person. However I know they cheat. The question is what will ya’ll do about it?

  • mikey

Because 25+ years, 82 games this year, 8 playoff games this year, it takes a toll.
Celtics got cheated about 80-90% of those games for the past 25 years.
    I don’t blame them.
I blame the people in the league for not calling out the cheating involved.

  • mikey

DRJ1 That is why I am saying. Game 2 was rigged too. So was Game 1, so was Game 3. Just because the Celtics win, it doesn’t make what the refs do right.
    They’re cheaters.
Salvatore and Mauer, give me a break, those dudes belong in a 8×10 cell.

  • mikey

They’re better off fighting with their words and calling out the league.
That is what I would do.
1.I’d walk right off the court.
2.I’d throw the ball at Lebron’s head.
3.I’d push a ref and go home.
    4.I’d charge the court.
But I’m not going to risk what I have when I am not associated with the league.

  • DRJ

I didn’t see it game 2. Game 1 was pretty bad, but not nearly as bad as this one’s first quarter. I think when it’s SO obvious, the Cs just figure there is no way for them to win this game, no way to beat the refs when they’re that determined.

  • mikey

    Remember they took 2 baskets away from Ray too. a 3 & a 2. Another 5 points.
They may have created the entire 19 point lead in the 1st, the refs that is.
    I’m being honest right here.
You know when they took those 2 baskets away from Ray?
I haven’t seen that happen once to the Cavs all season.
    Not once.

  • mikey

Everybody saw it in Game 2. How could you not?
38-18 FT and the Celtics win by 18?
That is 20 less FT & 18 more points.

  • Donald

When Donny Marshall say’s something about the refs then you know it must be bad. Fact is that the Cavs came out smoking and the C’s came out flat. Pierce was so bad Rondo took the majority of the 3′s. KG was great, but everyone else was just terrible. Now the real question is do the Cavs continue shooting lights out and dominating the boards and is this the exception not the rule?

  • mikey

I’m already lost as a fan.
I will never give these pigs $1.
All I can do is type from my computer.
The question is what will the people who are associated with the league do?

  • jared

I agree with DRJ to a large extent. This was a sad display that cheapens the game we love. I (an many others, no doubt) love the game and our club, but not the NBA.
To be frank, I think the monopoly structure of the NBA “franchise” model is to blame. Let clubs stand on their own, or this is what you get. Entertainment and not Sport.

  • mikey

Mauer, Salvatore, Crawford, Crawford, Jackson, Rush, Bavetta, Stern, Delaney.
    That is who it is.
    Its not a conpriacy.

  • Rodger

    David Stern is Hitler.
    Stu Jackson is Himmler.
The refs are nazi storm troopers.
And the nba stands for nazi basketball operation
    this is truely a dictatorship
when the commish tells the coaches if they dont like it get out
And is it a coincidince that lebrons gonna wind up in ny david sterns hometown right
    welcome to the new fatherland

Wow. Some great comments tonight. Annnnd some pretty strange ones-lol. Momentum folks. I’ll say it again-momentum. Sure, maybe there were some bad calls. The Perk call I don’t like, but anyone watching on tv saw that he made no play for the ball and just threw his body into ‘Bron. The C’s were on their heels from the jumpball. Did they not know the Cavs, and ESPECIALLY James, were gonna come out attacking? It was like someone shot Lebron out of a cannon, and the C’s were just standing around watching him get higher and higher in the sky. Once again, the C’s just did not play their game. I love Rondo, but he was just trying to hard to be the hero tonight early-on. The Cavaliers played like a team with their backs up against the wall/ The C’s played like a team trying not to lose. Don’t look at the refs my friends, look at points in the paint, how many layups/close-up shots the Celts missed. Also, the interior defense was TERRIBLE. Seriously-how can any fan who’s honest with themself think a blowout this bad was caused by “the refs”? Makes us look bad as fans folks-really. Sure,I hate to admit that we stunk too, but folks, we STUNK tonight. It’s real simple: the C’s will come out like rabid dogs fighting for the last scrap of meat on Sunday, or their season will be over very soon. Period.

  • legend

so i thought KG said they’re gonna blow out the cavs?

  • KGHaTTR

Jesus Christ, we didn’t get some calls, but we didn’t get many in Game 2 either. Cavs, made ALL their shots and because of that the defence was chasing shadows…
Mikey I think the only reason the FBI would be involved is to make sure u don’t get near the building – seriously deranged. This ain’t life and death.
The cavs OWNED us – I bet u won’t find one C’s player complain about the refs – we got handed our fuckin heads – u can’t blame a few 50/50 calls for that.
I thought the flagrant was weak, KG’s 2nd foul was weak and BBD’s offensive foul as well but in between all that while KG rode the pine we got ANNIHILATED. Our defence was horrendous – cutting under screens all night leaving LBJ open. ALL NIGHT – christ he made the first 4 or 5 – change your plan!!!
That would have to be the worst performance from Pierce I’ve ever seen – his guy has 35 or whatever and he basically distributed the 2nd half, and Pierce is 4-15 as well as 2-5 from the line. He was dead set horse shit.
KG shot the ball well and that’s it. Perk manned up i thought, Rondo was turned into a jump shooter (and he was decent at that) which meant other didn’t get involved like last game. The Cav’s were far more desperate defensively. I couldn’t care less about the refs performance – it didn’t help but we were 2nd best ALL NIGHT. I don’t buy the ‘we gave up because of the refs’ crap. Stop whinging and blame the players.

  • KGHaTTR

I totally agree and have said so below…

  • http://profile.typepad.com/6p011570423591970b KobeWearsAPurpleThong

Thx man. Hopefully we can bounce back Sunday. I'll be there & will try & bring us some luck.

  • Uncle Leo

Oh yeah it was definitely the refs doing everything they could to help the Cavs win just like they did last year against Orlando. Oh wait that’s not right, maybe the Celtics just played horrible.
One thing to note though. It’s almost mind-boggling the way the celtics are playing Lebron defensively. How can this be the team with the same defensive game-planning that made the 2008 finals a nightmare for kobe, who was/is a better perimeter scorer than Lebron. I mean Kobe had to fight to even get the ball above the 3pt line and whenever he put the ball on the floor he was IMMEDIATELY swarmed and forced to give it up, he almost never put up a shot with less than two guys jumping to contest. All that I see now is Lebron facing isolation after isolation against Ray and guys just going through the motions with shitty help when he drives. Don’t they get it? Can someone send them a tape of the finals series against the Lakers please?
The one reason I would wager on as to why the celts don’t go back to the zone defense that was so successful in the finals is because of how dramatically worse their rebounding has become. If they played zone now they would risk losing maybe 10% of their possessions which they would trade for playing better defense against Lebron. Hard to figure which is more successful but they should at least try different things.

  • DRJ

You people who are arguing that the Celtics played badly — are right, of course. If you read my post, though, you will see that there was a clear reason for that. It STARTED with the refs in the first quarter. After that, the Cs did give up, and that’s on them.
In case you are wondering what Doc thinks, he said as much as he could. When asked about all those fouls in the first quarter, he said:
“You guys talk about that. I’m not gonna talk about it, you talk about it. Maybe I should start sending in tapes like Cleveland does.”
That’s as close to a damning statement as a coach is going to get without being 100% certain of losing another $35,000.
Let’s be clear about this: OF COURSE the Celtics played badly in this game. They were terrible. And Paul has serious problem altogether. But they did give up, somewhere in the first quarter. And the reason they gave up was because it was completely obvious to all of them that the refs were going to screw them out of this game not matter WHAT they did.
And… as I wrote earlier… the refs did STOP their one-sided officiating once it was obvious that the Cavs didn’t need it. To make it look “fair”. But the damage was done.
That is the way this game happened. Now, it’s also true that with the way Cleveland was hitting even the well-defended looks, it’s probable that they would have won anyway. The refs made it a certainty.
The only question left in my mind is whether the referees and NBA are going to let the Celtics have some chance to win this series, or no chance. If it’s just to draw more viewers, and they intend to back off and call the remaining games fairly, I can live with that. If it’s because they want/need James to be the face of the NBA and in the Finals… that I cannot live with.

  • thebleeptruth

Not really sure about the officiating. But one thing was certain, the Cavs were just too hot in Game 3. Everything was going in. They were lucky it came at the right time. And then coincidentally, Celtics, were throwing bricks. I don’t think defense really played a big factor. Game 3 was simply a hot shooting night for the Cavs. And that sucks.

  • http://profile.typepad.com/6p0115711f7ae3970b Dre (from Los Angeles)

So when the refs don’t want the Celtics to win, the Celtics lose. That would mean that when the Celtics win, it has nothing to do with their talent, it’s because the Illuminati allowed them. It would have nothing to do with the fact that the Celtics are a talented team, right? Maybe the Celtics are so terrible that the only way they win is if an unknown, unseen secret group lets them win.
The only way this can be stopped is if Tom Hanks shows up, with the help of a boring sidekick, pulls back the veil of secrecy, revealing the referees direct ties to a cardinal who baptized David Stern’s children (which would be odd since David Stern is Jewish, but let’s not let the facts get in the way of a good conspiracy). The referees, as we later find out, are actually Catholic priests who seek to take over the NBA and turn it into a means to spread the Gospel and all associated guilt throughout the NBA by way of marketing. If you play the NBA’s “Amazing is Belief” commercials backwards, you will here, “Confess. Convert. Conquer.”
Think about it! “Amazing is BELIEF.” “BELIEF,” as in the belief in Catholicism. Since the Celtics’ mascot is a pagan character (the leprechaun), it’s only right that the Catholic “league” (GET IT?!) officials would want them to lose.
Danny Ainge wasn’t trying to distract a Cav with a towel, he was mocking the “Holy Ghost.” “This is your Holy Ghost… flying in the air and falling to the ground.” Why would the league fine him $25K otherwise? Makes sense now, right?
Danny Ainge will have the last laugh. He’s going to get into a helicopter packed with C4 and fly it straight up in the air, then jump out using a parachute that has the Celtics shamrock on it, for no apparent reason. It’s where amazing happens!
Or… it could be… the Celtics lost… because they didn’t play solid defense and shot poorly. But the truth is usually pretty damn boring.

  • DRJ

Actually, your sarcasm is pretty damn boring.

  • Tony Allen’s Lawyer

The cavs were hot but its easy to be hot when you get the looks that the cavs did tonight. The celts played little to no defense the whole night; rondo was a surprise no-show on the defensive end.
The notion that this team quit because of the refs in the first 5 mins of the game is ridiculous. I saw a team that didn’t close out, didn’t contest shots, didn’t hit the boards, and didn’t move their feet. If that’s all due to the refs then this is the most emotionally and mentally fragile team in the history of sports.
There was one positive part about going to the game tonight, a raucous garden angrily booing beyonce when they played one of her songs.

  • KGHaTTR

Agreed except u forgot the Cavs shot the lights out….

  • Joseph

You guys are f’n pathteic. Quit blaming the refs!!! That is f’n pitiful. Face it, you guys are NOT the good and the Cavs are that much better. Why don’t you accept the fact that the Cavs shot lights out and we’re quicker to the ball. Because the Suckdics won Game 2, they were all cocky and thought Game 3 would be handed to them. However, the MVP of the NBA had different plans. He came out determined to beat the living sh*t out of the Suckdics and thats what he did. He alone outscored you guys in the first quarter. What is the nonsense to let Ray Allen guard Lebron? He has no chance to bothering Lebron defensively.
QUIT BLAMING THE F’N REFS AND ADMIT IT, YOU GUYS ARE NOT THAT GOOD!!!
BTW: You’re season only has 2 games left.

  • KGHaTTR

‘There will be dissenters to this opinion but they will be wrong’
WTF is that?? DrJ I’ve always respected you’re opinion on here but we all watched the same game. The same one Lebron got called for a travel very early on during your 5 minutes of ABSOLUTELY DETERMINED refereeing.
We sucked arse! The C’s are a bunch of pussies if 5 minutes of iffy refereeing caused them to play crap for 48 minutes. And the C’s AREN’T bunch of pussies – they just stunk it up today.

  • Shawn-cvd

Game four will be fascinating. Both teams have been humiliated on their own home court. If Celtics win Sunday this goes to seven games. If not they most likely lose in five.
The biggest problems was our shoddy D and that Cleveland was hitting their FT’s this time. It’s demoralizing when you put guys on the charity stripe and they make you pay for it. What happens then is you’ve gotten into foul trouble and early penalties AND the score is being run up while the clock is stopped. In turn your defense suffers and making buckets is easier for the opponents after stroking those freebies. The Celtics are playing with fire for sure with the no easy baskets. I still feel it’s the best bet for them to extend and/or win this series.
PP has to make Lebron work somewhat on the defensive end. Also KG was efficient but where was his 20 shots?!? Lastly there were some awful passes tonight. No sloppy passes next game please!

  • Shawn-cvd

Look at how you censor sh*t and F*ck but will call Boston’s team the Suckdics! Go troll somewhere else you hypocrite!

  • http://docfunk.blogspot.com docfunk

I am in favor of anything Anti-Lebron, but this is ignorant. Even for a college dropout like me.

  • Caterpillar from Italy

I think speaking of refs is mistakening at all.
Last night they had a monster offensive game, plus they got EVERY rebound they could get, off and def; Rondo was the only one able to play his heart on the wood. Period.
The C’s? Never appeared on the radar: Pierce was a joke, Sheed was an unbelievable joke, Allen never made it, Perkins and KG were domnated on the boards.
We lost the game in the 1st quarter, we were never able to make a run and we struggled possession after possession.
After pointing out that, we can say that probably the refs made some weird calls, but if you think that the (questionable) flagrant on Perk was the key to the match, well guys, we’re done..
    Go C’s.

  • http://profile.typepad.com/6p01157053529f970b zippittyay

I may be wrong, but wasn’t the third referee Tim Donaghy?

  • http://profile.typepad.com/6p0115711f7ae3970b Dre (from Los Angeles)

My response was creative and not nearly as boring as your whining about how the Celtics failed due to the officials.
Do you know what kind of player blames the officials for a 30+ point loss? A player that doesn’t win. Good thing you’re just a fan and not a player.
Champions overcome, losers sit around pontificating on what could have been. They blame others. The Celtics are losers in your eyes, apparently, unable to control their own destiny and nothing more than gutless victims of some sort of conspiracy.
Losers blame the refs, winner just win. End of story.

  • http://profile.typepad.com/redsarmy Red’s Army

You telling people what to do.
