The Celtics are about to sign former UMass star Tony Gaffney and Oliver Lafayette.

Gaffney, a forward, went to training camp with the Lakers and played this season in Israel.

Lafayette, a guard from the University of Houston, has played the last two seasons in the D-League. He averaged 17.1 points and 6.5 assists for Fort Wayne this season.

Hmmm… with 2 games left the Celtics sign a forward and a guard.  That would only make sense if they had a forward and/or a guard that they might rest with two games to go.

UPDATE:  Oh wait… it's for the summer league.  Never mind.

Not sure what that update means. (j/k?) They’ll both be eligible to play immediately and in the playoffs, but I doubt either one will see any time in Boston this season, tho it’s always possible of course. My guess is they’ll both go straight to Maine, and this is a next-season move.
