Celtics/Wizards Game Preview

Chuck - Red's Army March 7, 2010 Uncategorized 8 Comments

Blatche

Celtics (39-21) vs Wizards (21-38)

Game time: 8pm, TD Garden. TV – CSN, ESPN. Radio – WEEI-AM (850).

Team Leaders

Scoring
Bos: Pierce – 17.7                  Wizards: Andray Blatche – 11.3

Rebounding
Bos: Perkins – 7.8                  Wizards: Blatche – 5.9

Assists
Bos: Rondo – 9.9                    Wizards: Randy Foye – 3.2

Who'll go off:  Rajon Rondo is averaging 19.0 and 11.5 assists vs Wash. this season.

Who needs to be stopped:  Andray Blatche. He's sixth in the league in scoring (25.5) since the All-Star break.

The C's will lose if…  Since trading away Brendan Haywood, Caron Butler and Antawn Jamison, the Wizards might have the least amount of talent among all NBA teams. Yet, they were still able to beat the (road weary) Nuggets on Feb 19. An 80% effort on the defensive end should result in a Celtics victory.

Miscellaneous:  The newly signed Michael Finley is expected to make his debut for Boston. Wiz F James Singleton is averaging 2.8 blocks per game in his last five games. The Celtics lead the season series 2-0 (104-102 on Dec 10, 99-88 on Feb 1).

Prediction: Celtics 109 – Wizards 89

Update: Michael Finley
is inactive for tonight's game. Doc said Finley arrived in Boston late Friday night and didn't spend much time today with the coaching staff. Finley may play Tuesday.

I’ll be at the Garden tonight early and hope to get some pics of the guys warming-up. Check my Twitter later on: http://www.twitter.com/kwapt. BigMck is absolutely right in saying that the Wiz have very little talent, but if the C’s fall into one of their “lapses”, the Wiz do have guys that can score quick. Randy Foye and Nick Young are both quick, young guys that can also shoot the ball. And we all know what Mike Miller is capable of behind the arc. Combine that w/Blatche crashing the O glass and this Wiz team can make big runs if the C’s start napping. I agree w/BigMck that defense will be important tonight. I am confident we can score at will on these guys, but getting back down the other end will be important. Let’s hope Perk is aggressive and active down low-when he is, and he’s blocking shots, we are hard to beat. I look for Pierce to have a good game tonight. He is extreme competitive and will be looking to bounce back from his less than stellar performance against the Sixers.

Guarantee we don’t win by as much as 20

Unrelated to this thread, I was watching the lakers/magic game noticing the 3hr investment Ron Artest put into his bright yellow and purple hair thinking back to the two questions about Stephen Jackson:
    “1. Prison
    2. as in why isn’t he in one right now?”
Perhaps there should be a 3rd question:
    3. Why isn’t Artest in there too playing the role of Jackson’s bitch?!

Anyone catch the Bird Magic special on HBO last night? One thing really stood out which I did not know was Bird hurt his back in 1985 from building his mom’s driveway in Indiana. The whole time I though he hurt it from playing ball. Bird is my all time favorite player but how stupid was that.. wow. He could’ve played a few more years if he didn’t make that mistake. Am I the only one finding out about this twenty something years later? Your thoughts?

    FSantos33-
I had the same reaction. It kinda pissed me off that Bird would do that.
    Otherwise, the documentary was awesome.

Highlights of Bird and Magic on the USA Team prior entering the NBA was damn cool too. No look passes and behind the back stuff to each other was classic.
Also, off camera photos of them during the Converse commercial in French lick. When they hung out like regular dudes and had lunch with Bird’s family. Just EJ and LB kicking it.
It was touching when Bird in tears during a team timeout. It was the day when everyone found out about Magic’s HIV. Bird led a fast break with a behind the back pass (from half court) right on target to Reggie lewis for a dunk. Announcer said it was almost like Bird made that pass in honor of Magic and a way of saying goodbye.
Bird and Magic truly was mirror images of each other and they needed each other for motivation.

I agree! The Celts seem to play to the level of competition. If they were playing a good team they would look much better but when they play -500 teams they stink up the place.
