Via WEEI.com:

On Friday, Yahoo! Sports reported Tony
Battie is a candidate to be bought out by the Nets before Monday’s
deadline. WEEI.com has learned the Celtics are one of the teams Battie
would be interested in signing with if he is bought out.

According to a
source familiar with the situation, Battie would eye the top three or
four teams in each conference, which makes sense for a veteran player
who is trying to maximize the years he has left in the NBA. According
to the source, Battie, 34, considers himself to be the in twilight of
his career and a serviceable big man who could rebound, play tough
defense, and give timely fouls. He has not, however, had any
conversations with the Celtics organization.

If there is absolutely no one else available, I'd welcome Tony back to Boston. After all, what team can't use an other big man? Maybe if Doc gave some of Sheed's minutes to Tony, Wallace would get the message and drop some of his lazy habits.

Yep, as a Sheed alternative, maybe. The alternative, if we’re honest with ourselves, is to hang this whole season on Rasheed Wallace. Because the hard truth is: if he doesn’t turn it around for the playoffs, the Cs are very unlikely to win. Effectively, that means the entire team’s destiny is in Sheed’s hands. Don’t know about the rest of you, but that makes me worry much more than anything else that’s happened. Sheed MIGHT turn it around… but who the hell knows? So yeah… a little Sheed insurance can’t hurt.

Battie would be a great bigbaby replacement.

Nate Robinson has his number so, in a sense, he’s already here

If we pick up Battie could Doc just part ways with Shelton? How badly must he be practicing right now that Doc won’t use him for the sake of sending a message to the other bigs if needed?

I respect that move if it happens. Always good to have another rugged big who can foul..play d and rebound. I’de prefer 1 with a little more mobility though to chase the odoms and rashard lewises of the world. All of our bigs are excellent with their low-post D, its the guys that can play the 4 and stretch out K.G and Sheed that give us trouble. This team much prefers to see dwight, shaq, bynum, gasols as opposed to turkoglu, lewis and odoms. power forwards who play good perimeter D aren’t exactly growing on trees though. any ideas?

yeah, i was wondering when they were going to do that, too.

I think it would be a good pickup as we are talking about anchoring the bench only.
We still need a House replacement? Miller?

  • Shawn-cvd

Miller would be an amazing pick up.
