Trade who now?

Clutch jesus

I'm so happy I still get to use this picture.

Ray Allen is force-feeding generous helpings of crow down the throats of the "Trade Ray" crowd right now.  After a 10-15 shooting night last night, Ray spent the 4th quarter destroying the hopes and dreams of the Portland Trailblazers by scoring 11 4th quarter points en route to a 21 point, 5 assist night… leading the Celtics to a 96-76 blowout win in Portland.

After last night's slug fest, both Chuck and I were bracing ourselves for the typical NBA no-show and the first loss of the trip.  But the C's stormed out to a big lead… which they built to almost 20 by halftime.  Portland cut it to 9 in the 4th quarter… prompting a few people to break into nervous sweats and a few more to start screaming "here we go again."

Nope, not with Ray on the court.  He went on a personal 8-0 run to squash the Blazer's hopes of a comeback.  He also found Baby with a nice look from the top of the key to make the run 11-0.

Rajon Rondo's night shouldn't overlooked. 10 points and 11 assists… with most of his work being done in the first half.  Also important numbers:  21 minutes for KG and 26 minutes for Paul Pierce.

So after a couple of wins where people still found reason to complain, the Celtics came up with a much-needed blowout.  Can we be impressed now?

Consider the switch flipped.

I’ll consider the switch flipped when we burn the Nuggets.

  • DRJ

    Yes!
February 18, 2010 – that was the turning point of the season, the night the Celtics decided enough is enough, time to start winning… the playoffs are in sight.

  • DRJ

And this game wasn’t even that important. We were all set to forgive them this loss. But no… every game is important PRACTICE now for them… for the real games coming soon in the second season. I do believe the switch is flipped.

  • KY Celts fan

    awesome. awesome. awesome.
I know there is going to be a lot of “Ray’s minutes in the 4th” blather, but c’mon. He was amazing! Vintage Jesus! He makes the bench better, and he can throw the daggers!
And can I just be the first to say WTF about Scal? Was that not the worst TO of the season?

  • DRJ

Btw… all those little RABBIT teams that scampered about to get good records in the first half of the season? They’re losing now. Lakers last night, Cavs 2 in a row, Magic tonight. :)

Even though Perk didn’t have huge numbers, 7 points and I believe 9 boards,a couple of blocks, he is playing much better. There have been a few games of late where he was M.I.A., but hopefully that phase is over. When he is rebounding, blocking shots and attacking, we play very well. CSNE showed a stat where when Perk has 2 or more blocks, the C’s are 22-7. Quiet night for Paul, but that’s ok-his scoring is gonna be there-let he and KG relax a little tonight-they will need everything they have on Sunday against a very good Denver team that will be amped up and ready to go. Should be fun. I saw alot of comments today here and on Twitter that basically said the C’s should just expect to lose this game, but I just had a feeling that was not going to be the case.

Love what I’m seeing from the Green and Ray and the bench. Seems like we’re “HEADING” in the right direction a W against the Nuggets would be really sweet. In my opinion we are a deeper team right now then even Orlando and Cleveland and we clearly have better staring lineups then both teams. My only issue is how we implement a young nucleus to Pierce K.G and possibly Ray next year? Can we still be title contenders when the Lebron, D-Wade, Bosh, Joe Johnson, Amare Stoudamire dust settles? Bulls Heat and Knicks could all presumably have 2 guys off that list the Clippers too but nobody will go there. Rudy Gay is out there too. I just hope Danny has a plan and he’s not just saying fuck it and lets just worry abot this year.

  • DRJ

Damn… I expected them to lose! The fact that they turned it up for this (basically meaningless) game is great news. It means the switch is probably flipped for REAL now… and will stay that way. O yeah! :)

    Let’s finish this year first

  • KGHaTTR

(guess who I’m pretending to be….)
Meh – big deal….not impressed…so KG hit a few shots…got a few boards…blocked a few shots..beat the buzzer twice…he was invisible in the 4th!!Missed two awful shots and clanked a free throw – crap he was……blazers were awful…Roy was gimpy…Pierce was a no show. Rondo was God….etc etc etc
I loved this game. BBD or MR Davis stuffed the Blazers run with 2 great defensive plays. He was up for it. Great shooting from Ray…I thought Daniels and Sheed played important minutes although they don’t show up on the sheet.
Perk is looking good too. A real heartwarming performance. I thought the wins vs Sac and LA may not have been awe inspiring but they were stepping stones….
    I’m
    actually
    feeling
    hope……

Great game, so glad to see them playing with some real confidence. The defense is looking strong and active, and KG looks great. Excited to see how this team plays on Sunday now. It’s funny what playing with effort and passion can do for a team huh?

  • KY Celts fan

Hawks tonight as well. Pretty good start to the weekend!

  • KY Celts fan

I know! I know! Chuck, right?

  • SydneyCeltics

Great game. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Happy to see Ray lighting it up again. As for Scal? What the hell was that TO? Honestly. Looking forward to the Denver game. Great win.

  • Venus

I don’t know WTF he was thinking. I love how Rondo just rolled his eyes and inbounded the ball himself. There was no reason to throw it where he did with Rondo standing right there.
Hey Scal how about showing some gratitude for staying in town like Ray and stop goofing around.

  • Shawn-cvd

You mention practice…against the Flakers the announcers said how Doc had been severely limiting the Celtics’ practice time due to age/injuries. I don’t recall “lack of practice” being a possible cause for their two months of shoddy play mentioned by anyone here… makes sense to me.

  • Shawn-cvd

    LOL to both of you.

  • Shawn-cvd

That play by Scal will find it’s way onto those top 20 boneheaded sports plays of all time programs…

  • http://profile.typepad.com/6p011570423591970b KobeWearsAPurpleThong

Yeah-I hope so. Granted-the 2nd game of a back-to-back on the road is a loss 75% of the time, but after last night I really felt they would be pretty motivated. Been a long time since they clicked like they have the last 2 nights. The next week will be interesting-they play 2 of the best teams in the league and 2 of the worst. Will be very curious to see how they do…

  • Shawn-cvd

This win was euphoric! So refreshing to see the Green go alpha on their opponents/prey. Lots of nationally televised games going on and I think the Celtics want everyone to know the honeymoon is over.
And we haven’t even gotten the chance to unleash Mr Robinson on our adversaries. We’re gonna take over the neighborhood. Just wait and see :)

  • Lee in Oregon

First good game they’ve played in some time. They finally held a lead! Blazer fans are the worst babies in the league….it was good to see them endure an ass-whipping at home.
Denver has the best record against teams with winning records….between that, the mile-high home court, and the fact that it’s a matinae game, this will be a good test to see where they really are.

  • DRJ

    Life is good, ain’t it?

  • DRJ

The only explanation for that Scal worst-inbound-of-the-decade play that I can think of is that they have some set play where Rondo is supposed to run in front of the defender and get the ball on the run. Except… Rondo was wide open right there on Scal’s left…. all he had to do was throw it right to him.
So Scal zoned out, I guess. Dreamin a dream. Hope it was a good one Scal. Because with you, my friend, there is NO slack to cut.

  • Shawn-cvd

The title is “Trade who now?” Survey says…. ding!… Brian Scalabrine!!!

  • KGHaTTR

That was my immediate thought too – not an NBA calibre play….

  • KGHaTTR

    Goddammit!!! I’m getting better…..

  • Caterpillar

    And finally, a blow-out win!
I only hope this trend they showed in these last days will go on and stay up ’til the end; whatever it might happen, this is the right attitude, period!
    ps
Scal is a joke, and what he did last night doesn’t surpize me: when I look at him playing, it’s like the small soldier trying to follow orders no matter what’s goin’ on around him – act first, think about it later. But no matter how, he’s a Celtic: go Scal!!!! :)

  • Time for a Blockbuster Trade Baby!

Lets just see how the next month goes. I don’t like these ups and downs. Who knows how Nate will fit in w/ the second unit. When I see steady play from him and sheed I’ll start feeling a little better.
