Cavs Get Antawn Jamison

Via Adrian Wojo of Yahoo! Sports:

The Cleveland Cavaliers have reached agreement on a six-player, three-team trade that lands them
former All-Star forward Antawn Jamison, league sources with knowledge of the talks told Yahoo! Sports.

The Cavaliers are sending center Zydrunas Ilgauskas and a first-round pick to the Wizards. The Wizards also will receive Brian Skinner and Al Thornton from the Los Angeles Clippers. The Cavaliers will get point guard Sebastian Telfair from the Clippers. The Wizards will send Drew Gooden to the Clippers.

How much will Jamison help the Cavs? Like I tweeted earlier today, his minutes have to come from somewhere and it could mean less time for Andy Varajeo and JJ Hickson – two high energy guys who have been playing well.

As for the Celtics efforts to get Nate Robinson, Eddie House told the Globe's Gary Washburn: "Strong possibility I will be traded to New York tomorrow."

This improves the Cavs more than the Amare trade. Gonna be a tough matchup for anyone now. What will really make this good for the cavs is if Big Z is bought out and goes back to them in 30 days

EH’s game 4 performance in the 2008 NBA Finals makes him immortal in this town.

    F’n A, Eddie.
    Boo yah.

The plus about the Robinson/House trade is that he’s a solid back up point guard, a better shooter, and can score 20 points off the bench, when House has been streakier than usual this year with his shooting.
The negatives are that you get the same shitty defense, and this guy is a total headcase. Also, it will be really sad to see House move on.
That said, what’s stopping us from trying to deal for John Salmons/Hinrich?

Okay…would you stop trying to make up reasons why this will “effect chemistry” …one can hope..but uhm thats very unlikely, Varejao is now what he should be, a backup center, and the cavs didnt have to give up hickson in the deal, and Big Z will get bought out by the Wizards.
And The Nate deal is just dumb

And as far as eddie house goes, as much unwarranated criticzm as he gets, he has been an underrated role player while here, Breaking the celtics highest all time 3 pt % for an entire season, contributing to the championship and in the biggest game in the celtics franchise in 20 years, in game 4 of the 2008 finals, he played great in the game 7 against the bulls last year, he had a 30+ pt game against the magic in the playoffs, and hes been underappreciated…I liked Eddie house as a celtic role player, and the fact that this deal does nothing to change our chances, i question why u do it at all

A risk worth taking for the Cavs. I would not mind that problem. If AJ is having a off game you can always resort to your strong bench. I would not be surprised if Z gets bought out and comes back to the Cavs. If that happens I have to give the upper hand to the Cavs.

Great trade for Cleveland. Their frontcourt is now made up of Shaq, Jamison, Varejao, Hickson, Moon, Jawad Williams some roster fillers (Leon Powe for instance) and they might very well get Ilgauskas back. Oh, and that guy James as well. They’ve gotta be favourites to win it all now, this could be one of the better frontcourts post-80’s. And Telfair can’t be all bad for them either, backing up Mo Williams and Boobie.
For some teams, things never change. The Clippers make another extremely questionable trade. In two days, they’ve sent away their only truly good interior defender and one of their better young talents (Thornton, not Telfair), for a decent SF (can’t see Outlaw being an improvement over Thornton) and a not-very-good PF (Gooden is clearly not the player Camby is). And lost two more players in the process. What are Dunleavy trying to do here? I really feel for their fans. The Clippers can’t even stop sucking when they get Blake Griffin.

Clippers have almost enough money to go after LeBron this summer. They can also attract him with the possible starting lineup of Davs/Gordon/James/Griffin/Kaman.

  • paul

    Potential trade?
Nate Robinson, Kirk Hinrich to Boston.
Ray Allen, Al Harrington to Chicago
House, Brian Scalabrine, Salmons to NY.
    Does this make sense?

  • paul

They can use Scal over there, he sells tickets

  • BamaCeltic

how cool would it feel to be Jamison or Telfair? going from crap teams to Championship caliber team….on flip side , it will suck for Big Z if he isnt able to get back with Cavs and get his ring after being withthem his whole career. i dont know about the nate trade ..it might help, if he can spark the rest of the guys and get some life into this team…they always seem so dead…..its to bad we cant figure a way to get someone like a Travis outlaw or Martel webster kinda player…someone who can play multiple positions and is atheltic..we need some guys that can get up the floor with Rondo…we are best when we are runnin and gunnin !!

  • Joe

It’s funny how some of you guys are worried and acting like the Cavs now have the upper hand over the Celtics a day after we barely got by the Kings due to their horrible FT shooting in the fourth quarter. KG can’t jump anymore. Perk has become a black hole. Ray’s missing layups. Paul has left his mid-range game back in 2009 and Rondo is only good for 2 or 3 quarters. And we’re talking about matching up with the Cavs? We can barely match up against the Kings! Trade Ray for Igouodala, man. That’s what we need.

  • Shawn-cvd

How can you definitively state that our chances doesn’t change with this trade?
It would be nice give other teams different looks. Nate penetrating, dishing, scoring and drawing fouls in the second unit is a change. That change will be either for the better or for change’s sake. I’m comfortable with change.
House is a great complimentary player but when the players he’s complimenting aren’t getting it done that LESSENS Eddie’s value to us. Nate will score and protect the rock WAY more than House. As a potent scorer he could also allow our second unit to be out there longer therefore getting the Big Old Three much needed rest and Sheed/Quis/G Davis a shot to get into better shape.

  • Shawn-cvd

Knicks won’t want Salmons. They only want Ec’s. Also I think/hope you mean Tony Allen to Chicago

  • I bleed green in L.A.

Because we’re not beating Cleveland now. Sure, LeBron could get injured and we’d have a chance, but a reserve player for another reserve player will not make us contenders again.
I had high hopes at the beginning of the season, and then again when the trade rumors started. But I think Cavs/Flakers in the finals is inevitable now. I still hold out hope that our guys will get their game faces on, I just don’t see it in there eyes anymore. And if they lose again tomorrow night to the hated ones, this season will be a complete bust.

  • I bleed green in L.A.

Tony won’t go to Chicago, he’s got beef with someone there. And we don’t need to backup PG’s. We need youth and scoring, period. Iggy or Monta are the only 2 that would really help.

  • Shawn-cvd

Igoudala and Delambert is still a great trade.

  • Mstat

The Boston Celtics are the team coming out of the East still. You read it here, fuck the Cavs!

  • paul

    is this a rumor?

  • michael

you know what, I started reading all the posts here and then lost patience. my two cents (for anyone who cares) is that Jamison is a good player, but he ain’t no Amare. I’m just glad it went down this way and not the other.
As for Eddie – keep him and love him
As for Robinson – find some way to get him without giving up Eddie? or settle for DJ Augustin via BBD
One day left to turn the season around. Or keep things the same and win a title anyway

  • Shawn-cvd

Tomorrow does not the season make. We finally get back everyone and we act like we have no chance. Next step is working up the right momentum entering the post season. What if Sheed is right?!? What if , given our age and injuries we are only built to play the second half of a season and not the first? What if the Magic finish a forth seed and has to duke it out with Cleveland first?
Cleveland remains a super talented albeit poorly coached team. Watch Lebron play him against 5 in closing minutes of close games still. The Green do have their work cut out but we remain a top 5 team in this league. We’ll see…

  • Shawn-cvd

I agree. This Cleveland trade could be enough to blow up our team…Not what I want to see now nut I’d totally understand getting younger in our back court…

  • Shawn-cvd

    Yes

  • Shawn-cvd

I say don’t trade and Robinson get’s bought out. Makes no sense to swap EC’s. Knicks are trying to save $$ give Robinson 75% of what’s due to him. They save like 300,000 and get him out of their locker room.

  • http://profile.typepad.com/6p01156f6a54c2970c ToTheRuins

lol…you think tony has control over whether or not he gets traded to chicago?

  • http://profile.typepad.com/6p01156f6a54c2970c ToTheRuins

rondo is “only good for 2 or 3 quarters’ because they stop playing at his tempo and start giving the ball to paul to isolate, playing to rondos weakness, standing around

  • http://basketscenen.se/nbaswe/ Mauritz

Yeah, not to forget the chance to play for the illustrious Clippers. I can totally visualize Mike Dunleavy and LeBron side by side on the press conference…
The only ones who like this idea are Clipper fans and Bill Simmons. It will not happen.
